• To learn the functions of journalism and how they work. And to also show visuals and examples to make it a little more clear.

• The political function of a journalist is dealing with political events in the world. Doing this job will properly cover in detail the activities of government.

• Example: What’s going on with the government?...

• ARTICLE:• Senator Sarah Palin

running for vice president to change the way things run in the white house.

• Basically this function of a journalist is just talking about the economic situations that goes on in the world. This function gives us information on product goods, advertising, business , agriculture, and industrial news.

• Example: What about the gas prices?....

• ARTICLE:• An example would be oil prices

declining while Hurricane Gustav weakened, but investors were still waiting to see how much damage the storm might do to Gulf Coast oil operations.

• All this function is talking about is the entertainment going on in the world. This function gives us featured stories, photos, and comics to entertain an audience made up of all ages.

• Example: The scoop on the latest entertainers?....

• ARTICLE:• Britney Spears hopes her

sons don't go into showbiz. Spears said she would like Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James to choose careers away from the limelight.

• Journalist should reflect a record of local, national, and world news by using the record keeping function.

• Example: What happened to the price of oil?...

• ARTICLE:• Gasoline prices, which for

months lagged the big run-up in the price of oil, are suddenly rising quickly, with some experts fearing they could hit $4 a gallon by spring.

• The Agenda Setting function is letting us know what to think about and placing certain issues such as the need to protect the environment, before the public.

• ARTICLE:• Scientist have determined

that human activities is what is causing global. For example all of the factories we use, cars, and greenhouse houses. Over time, the level of atmospheric methane has risen by 151 percent, mostly from agricultural activities such as raising cattle and growing rice.

• Journalist will use the social function to get news from neighbors on a person-to-person basis and to pass along the news about their world in which people use today.

• Example: Myspace/ Facebook• ARTICLE:• Overall, Social Networking total

audience grew 64 million (12%) during the last 6 months. Facebook grew by the most absolute uniques at 34 million, or 35%. Together, Facebook and hi5 grew by 59 million uniques, accounting for 67% of the growth of the top 6 social networking sites during the first half of 2008

• Journalist will provide the form in which all sorts of ideas becomes the market place of ides.

• Example: Amazon• ARTICLE:• The Internet’s dramatic impact

on business operations is causing some to conclude that business success may be hard to sustain.  In particular, the speed at which information is exchanged and knowledge is gained makes competitive advantage a fleeting proposition.

• Journalist are to keep the public informed of upcoming problems to practice the sentry function.

• Example: What about Foreclosure?....

• ARTICLE:• The United States foreclosure

cases will increase over the next few years while in an economy that is a bit uncertain. Housing Predictor predicts more than 3 million foreclosures till around 2010. The foreclosure market increase is a bad situation.

• During this presentation I learned the different functions of a journalist can be really hard work but can give off good information. I hope that this project can help me achieve certain things in journalism.
