Bowls is a sport for all ages and abilities, and to continue Bowls Victoria’s commitment to leading Victoria’s most accessible sport, Bowls Victoria will be undertaking a number of initiatives as part of their involvement in the AAA Program. As part of the program, they aim to develop the skills of clubs, coaches and people within the community in working with bowlers with a disability in the hopes of creating a state-wide network of clubs providing All Abilities programs. These programs will seek to introduce new participants to the sport and identify bowlers with the potential to progress along the pathway to representative bowls and events. The AAA program will be a great opportunity for Bowls Victoria to continue to highlight the accessibility of their sport, help their clubs develop more welcoming and inclusive environments and establish inclusion as part of their organisational practice.

As part of the SRV AAA funding, Disability Sport & Recreation will be working towards building the profile of 7-a-side Football and Wheelchair Rugby in Victoria. 7-a-side Football in a sport targeted towards people with the disability of cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury and stroke. 7-a-side Football was introduced to Victoria back in 2009. The AAA funding will enable them to reach the wider community in promoting the sport to the disability types they are targeted at. With a partnership approach, they will work with sporting clubs, the state sporting association and disability and community organisations to help them grow the profile of the sport in Victoria. Wheelchair Rugby has been a part of Disability Sport & Recreation’s direct services deliverables for over 20 years. With no mainstream sport to link the sport with the AAA funding will allow them to build upon the foundations that they have created in Victoria. They will focus on building on the development pathway by introducing beginner programs in rehabilitation centres, expanding upon the current state competition and investing in adaptable sporting equipment to reduce the financial barrier to participating in these sports.

Victorian Tenpin Bowling Association (TBAV) will endeavour to expand the pathways and opportunities available for people with a disability within their sport. This will be accomplished through the implementation of sustainable participation such as programs and flexible league involvement. To achieve this sustainability, it is essential for them to receive the support of their stakeholders. Their desired outcome is to formalise these key partnerships with disability organisations and sporting groups through this funding.

YMCA’s AAA program is focused on providing a sustainable model that effectively promotes and integrates all people with disabilities into active recreation, both structured and unstructured.

The Access for All Abilities is a focus to provide a sustainable model that effectively promotes and integrates all people with disabilities into active both structured and unstructured recreation. The main aims of the project are to create a model that can be sustained beyond the funding period and can include all people with disabilities in to mainstream activities. YMCA Centres that provide recreational activities will be targeted to pilot and support this model. They plan to reduce and eliminate access inequities experienced by people with disabilities through program modification. They will also design a training package that can provide access to mainstream recreation activities and be transferrable beyond the life of the project. This program will include piloting training and staff development to increase awareness. It will provide tools that utilise simple techniques that make activities available to a broader participant base.
