Max Exterior | m.look

m.look blends the best in style with superior fire performance. A revolutionary facade product this sleek high pressure laminate offers exceptional protection, with a fire classification of A2-s1, d0 according to EN 13501-1, along with exacting weather

resistance. FunderMax’s product range has entered a new realm...

FunderMax Exterior | Modulo ME05

With this modern façade fixing system it’s possible to create a façade, as well as impressive interior wall cladding — with prefabricated standard elements and invisible mechanical fasteners. The substructure can be either standard wooden or aluminium.

FunderMax Exterior | Scaleo

Perfect for robust and modern facades, prefabricated Max Exterior Scaleo panels are a contemporary, cost effective solution. Thanks to the ideal combination of a straightforward mounting system with the time-tested properties of Max Exterior facade cladding, Max Exterior Scaleo elements are very easy to fit on a wooden

substructure.

(Prefabricated Max Exterior panels as per EN 438-6, type EDF make

robust and modern facades easy to design.)

Max Exterior | F Quality

FunderMax Exterior is a high-quality construction product that is available in large format panels for building facades and cladding balconies. FunderMax Exterior panels are duromer high-pressure laminates (HPL) as per EN 438-6, type EDF, which offer extreme resistance and durability. The weather protective coating consists of double hardened acrylic polyurethane resins. Panels are produced in laminate presses under high pressure at high temperature.

Page 8: Fundermax press pack 2015 v3 HR copy

FunderMax Exterior | Individual Decor

Max Exterior Individual Decor panels have a weather protective coating, and can be impregnated with all types of designs - individually created by our customers. Designs are simply uploaded online, and then designed as per the instruction of the customer. The paper is then applied to the laminate with the addition of an extremely effective weather protection, using a pressure bonding process.

Max Authentic | F-Quality

Max Compact panels of the decor range Authentic are compact panels intended for outdoor applications, which are made mainly of core layers. The natural, lively texture of the core layers is visible and is brought out by pressing in HPL presses.

The panel surface is protected against strong greying via the patented NT surface. The absence of a special lightfast decor allows such panels to take on a “natural” appearance as they weather.

Since the individual panels sometimes differ considerably in terms of colour and texture, the best overall appearance is best achieved by “mixing” the cut pieces when mounting. Colour variations due to raw materials and production factors make for the special visual effects of these panels.

Max Universal | F-Quality

FunderMax panels from the Universal collection are suitable for interior and exterior applications. These are large-format duromer high-pressure laminates (HPL) as per EN 438-6, type EGF and are produced in laminate presses under high pressure at high temperature.

Star Favorit

FunderMax Star Favorit panels are melamine resin coated pressed laminates available in different qualities of carrier panels and in combination with stable edges ABS or continuous edging films as well as decorative laminates.

Hardboard

FunderMax Organic Fibre is a fibre panel produced using the wet method according to standard EN 622-2.

The company’s special manufacturing process almost completely omits the use of synthetic resins. The raw material used by FunderMax for Organic Fibre panels is exclusively untreated natural wood from largely regional sawmills whose residues are processed to form a high quality material. The formaldehyde content is the same as for natural wood.

Compact Elements

FunderMax Elements are semi-finished and ready-to-install finished parts for furniture elements made of Compact Laminates, which use the very latest machining centres for routing, drilling and punching.

SustainabilityWhen it comes to sustainability, FunderMax is a pioneer. For decades, doing business sustainably has been a key priority for the firm and it is central to all of its activities - ensuring the company leads the industry far beyond legal requirements.

For over 100 years, FunderMax has used renewable raw materials, not only ensuring cost effectiveness, but the ecological soundness of its products too. Its raw materials are mainly sourced from sustainably managed locations, with large investments made into environmental measures in its operating areas. For example, at two prime locations, FunderMax runs highly efficient combined green power and district heating plants, where waste from production processes is re-used to produce energy, achieving an entirely closed production cycle.

At its St. Veit location, FunderMax provides over 3,500 households and public buildings with environmentally friendly district heating. And at its Wiener Neudorf plant, all energy provision has been converted to natural gas. Using biogenic and fossil energy sources that have the least impact on the climate, FunderMax makes an active contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Working with an integrated, TUV-certified quality environment and workplace safety management system that complies with international standards, (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 und OHSAS 18001), FunderMax remains committed to continually improving production methodologies, to reduce environmental impact and avoid workplace accidents.

Latest NewsThis past year has seen considerable growth for FunderMax in the UK. Here are just a couple of projects that have showcased our products.

‘We’re really happy with how things are progressing in the UK. The brand profile has certainly been raised, and we’ve invested carefully in marketing; select event shows, email campaigns, targeted PR, not to mention a lean but ambitious sales team, this has all served to get the FunderMax name out there. What’s also really helped is the introduction of even more innovative products, the new colour range has been hugely successful, and we’re continually pushing the boundaries with new fixing systems and finishes. There’s certainly been a rise in the demand for more ‘creative’ solutions in the UK too, making FunderMax products the perfect alliance.’

Mayflower HallsSouthampton University showcases Max Exterior Universities, colleges, schools... FunderMax is perfect for the education sector.

Page 17: Fundermax press pack 2015 v3 HR copy

PRESS PACK | 17

When it comes to sourcing materials for education sector builds, it’s difficult to find products that offer the freedom of creative expression as well as dependable durability. Yet with its extreme weather resistance and sleek contemporary appeal, Max Exterior ticked all the right boxes for the development of Southampton University’s Mayflower Halls.

Capturing the architect’s vision beautifully, Max Exterior rainscreen panelling was affixed in varying, complementing shades of grey, across the facade of Mayflower Halls. Contrasting red window frames and cut out brick detail punctuated the design adding to its truly impressive overall effect.

Specialist facade contractors LSC Facades looked to FunderMax’s high pressure laminate to help achieve the architect’s design. Choosing exacting solutions is something that’s formed part of their ethos since their business began. ‘Established since 1988, LSC Facades has grown into a company that can offer the complete external facade solution to suit creative architectural demands through to individual client and contractor needs.’

Paul Hughes, from FunderMax, gives further insight as to why Max Exterior was specified. ‘In today’s tough economic climate the education sector is being placed under immense pressure to source cost effective building solutions that can stand up to tough challenges, be it our harsh climate, or damage, such as graffiti. But it’s under these kind of pressures that Max Exterior comes into its own. Highly cost effective, and extremely durable, these high pressure laminate panels offer the same aesthetic appeal (if not even moreso) of the many cementitious boards which are on the market - however, they have a distinctive and unique advantage - they have a higher level of impact resistance and can be easily cleaned. Something a cementatious board, by its very nature, is unable to offer. Exceptional performance, excellent quality and great aesthetics are the cornerstones of Max Exterior.’

Martin Leekblade pre-construction director at LSC Facades believes that ‘the market is gearing towards cladding and growth of the industry is continuous, as the choice of architects to design new builds with such facades really reflects the lack of bricklayers in the industry since the end of the recession.’

VitaFunderMax Exterior brings history to lifeVersatile building façade, FunderMax Exterior, has been specified on prestigious London housing development, Vita.

Page 20: Fundermax press pack 2015 v3 HR copy

PRESS PACK | 20

Located in the highly sought after area of Bow, East London, developers, Hill Partnership, required a façade that could meet the exacting planning requirements for the ambitious project, while paying homage to the site’s heritage.

Built on the site of an old wallpaper factory, the FunderMax Exterior jasmine cladding was selected for its ability to capture the history of this unique location in a contemporary and visually striking way.

Chris Simpson from installer Cladding Design Solutions, comments, “We work with clients to find inspired solutions to their design specifications, and FunderMax Exterior helped us to bring the vision for Vita to life. Versatility was crucial on this project and unquestioningly formed the basis of our decision to use FunderMax Exterior.

“Not only have the bold design and strict planning requirements of the project been met, the result has beautifully surpassed all visual expectations. With a stunning jasmine finish and boasting a routed contemporary floral pattern.”

FunderMax Exterior is growing increasingly popular among specifiers, contractors and architects seeking flexible and cost-effective façade and cladding materials.

Face fixed with colour matched rivets, the mixed private and housing association residential project has been sympathetically designed to emulate the heritage of the site. Set in a dynamic and vibrant suburb of East London, Vita is a striking development of one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

The streamlined finish offered by FunderMax Exterior allows windows to be bordered perfectly, with no blunt finish to either side.

Paul Hughes, from FunderMax Exterior, adds, “Vita was a challenging yet exciting project to be involved with, and we’re thrilled with the end result. The versatility of FunderMax Exterior has resulted in an enviable marriage of modern architectural design with a strong and unique heritage.”

Concluding, Chris Simpson from Fundermax Exterior installer, Cladding Design Solutions, says, “We had various criteria to adhere to in order to meet the planner’s design specification completely. When seeking a suitable rainscreen solution, the product needed to be high quality and BBA approved, durable and competitively priced, which is a difficult combination to find.

“However, Fundermax Exterior not only ticked all of these boxes, it also presented us with a charming visual design which characterised perfectly the essence of the project.”

Opinion PieceThe demand for individual expression is on the rise Paul Hughes, from FunderMax, comments on the rising trend and demand for individual design within the cladding industry, and subsequent challenges.

Page 22: Fundermax press pack 2015 v3 HR copy

PRESS PACK | 22

There are numerous challenges that confront facade producers in today’s competitive construction market. All of which have to be balanced carefully. When it comes to choosing preferred rainscreen products, design, price point, longevity and sustainability are all of equal importance as part of the selection process. However, there is now another prerequisite which cannot be overlooked. The demand for individual expression and creativity has never been greater.

As brands look to new ways to stand out, at FunderMax we’ve seen a significant increase in orders of completely unique ‘one off’ high pressure laminate panels. From bold geometric designs to large format re-created photographs and intricate motifs, there has definitely been a surge in the desire for individual panels. Subsequently this has placed pressure on the sector to produce a range that allows such expression.

Creative architectural design made possible

Over the past few years companies have seemed to move away from colour blocking, and safe grey and beige palettes, to more emotive photographic effects and naturally inspired facades. There is a real growth in creative architectural design, with imaginative use of large format panel cladding. Today, versatility, creativity and cost effectiveness are on the essential tick list when it comes to rainscreen cladding.

Sustainability & creativity. Intrinsically linked.

The importance of sustainable design has been up for debate in recent years, with RIBA president Angela Brady leading on the subject. One of the key things that has come out of these discussions is the need for creators to not just develop sustainable solutions, but ones which are ‘irresistible’ from a design perspective too. A number of the world’s leading architects were involved in the debate at Ecobuild and the concluding thought was that there is a distinct lack of innovation within the industry.

We’re moving in the right direction - we’re certainly bucking the trend, but as a sector we need to do more to meet the demand and exceed expectations. It was by no means a surprise that sustainability, low carbon building materials and creativity therewith were also on the agenda at this years Ecobuild, as the industry looks to its fellow creators for inspiration.

When it comes to sustainability, high pressure laminate continues to excel. As well as making great environmental sense, it also enhances energy efficiency when used as an overclad on existing buildings. Created mainly from recycled waste materials - layered kraft paper which is then compacted - it is exceptionally green.

Page 23: Fundermax press pack 2015 v3 HR copy

PRESS PACK | 23

Meeting the demand of a future trend

As people become more aware of the sustainable qualities of rainscreen, and its energy efficiency, the demand continues to grow, as cladding is seen as a versatile, sustainable and cost effective solution.

Though cost effectiveness is definitely a positive attribute, it can sometimes be viewed negatively as designers and creators question its quality. This is one of the prime reasons I am whole heartedly behind the trend for individual expression. There are seemingly limitless possibilities with today’s contemporary high pressure laminate - whatever designers have envisaged can be brought to life, and this goes someway to counteracting that negativity.

The human factor plays a huge role in architecture, so the ability to individualise makes rainscreen a more favourable and expressive choice. And as the demand for ‘the unique’ rises it’s essential that the industry rises to meet that demand, at the same time paying particular attention to sustainability. As Angela Brady asserts ‘sustainability’ and ‘irresistibility’ should go hand in hand.
