Strand C: Cross-Sector Support Call

Enabling diversification of UK manufacturing capability and technology innovation• To encourage and support more UK businesses into the offshore wind supply chain by attracting cross-

sector engagement and helping potential new market entrants to overcome barriers to diversification.• Project proposals should be focused on one or both of the following areas:

Manufacturing DiversificationBuilding new manufacturing capacity in offshore wind by enabling UK businesses with existing capability in adjacent sectors to de-risk existing processes and diversify.Technology TransferSupporting innovative companies to de-risk new technologies, products/services for offshore windapplication through testing, validation and/or demonstration.

• Total funding pot is £300k• Eligible project costs are between £25K and £100K• Projects of 6- and 12- months duration

Target

This call is targeted towards UK manufacturers and innovative engineering firms seeking support to de-risk their processes and products for the offshore wind market.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate traction of their existing manufacturing processes or engineering products/services in adjacent sectors such as:

• Aerospace

• Oil & Gas

• Nuclear

• Automotive

• Maritime

Companies working in other sectors are encouraged to apply providing they can demonstrate a clear market opportunity or applicability in offshore wind.

Scope

Projects should expand the UK offshore wind supply chain by building on existing UK manufacturing, and innovative engineering capability.

Companies are invited to submit applications for projects that enable diversification of existing processes, technologies, products, and services to support their establishment in the offshore wind sector.

Grants will be awarded to companies for:

1. Strategic diversification projects that utilise a specialist delivery partner to assess the feasibility of adapting existing manufacturing processes, products, and services for offshore wind application.

2. Technology de-risking projects such as testing & demonstrations for near-to-market solutions that demonstrate commercial viability in offshore wind application.

Eligibility

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

• Be a UK-registered company of any size

• (For “Manufacturing Diversification” only: have a UK-based manufacturing facility)

• Show a clear intent to diversify their business into offshore wind

• Demonstrate existing capability in at least one other sector

• Show a clear intent to grow the business in terms of turnover, jobs, exports and IP

• Can identified clear barriers to entering the offshore wind market that will be addressed in the project.

• Provide an in-kind contribution to the total project costs

• Demonstrate how the project would not take place without OWGP support.

Your project’s total eligible costs must be between£25,000 and £100,000.

Applicants may receive funding for eligible project costsof:• up to 70% if applicant micro or small business• up to 60% if applicant is medium-sized business• up to 50% if applicant is large business

Project Team

The project team must include the applicant and at least one delivery partner to provide strategic diversification support tailored to the needs of the applicant.

A delivery partner must:

• Be a UK-based business, academic organisation, public sector organisation or Research and Technology Organisation (RTO)

• Deliver consultancy, market intelligence, bespoke diversification strategy support or technology transfer/de-risking support.

• Be invited to take part by the Applicant

Open Call

Improving competitiveness and driving innovation across UK supply chainThis competition will support companies across the breadth of the supply chain to develop new innovative solutions that meet the needs of the offshore wind sector and enable access to structured support programmes to improve business competitiveness.

In line with Strands B and D, project proposals should be focused on one or both of the following areas:

• Exploring and implementing new processes or ways of working that will demonstrate improvedcompetitiveness within the supply chain.

• Disruptive technologies, products and/or services that present game-changing solutions to realindustry challenges.

• Total funding pot is £300k• Eligible project costs are between £25K and £100K• Projects of 6- and 12- months duration

Scope

The aim of this competition is to support existing UK supply chain companies to grow their market share through increased competitiveness and the development of new technologies, products, and services.

The scope for the Open Call is intentionally broad to encourage applications across the breadth of the supply chain. As such, the OWGP welcomes applicants from the following supply chain areas:• Turbine Supply• Foundations Supply• Inter-array/export cable supply• Installation & logistics• Substations• O&M• Decommissioning

Companies working in other supply chain areas are encouraged to apply providing the proposal demonstrates a clear Business Case and there is evidence of support/sponsorship from an end-user.

If your project does not fit within criteria, please contact the team prior to submitting a Stage 1 Application to ensure it is within scope.

In addition to the Lead Organisation, we encourage the inclusion of other organisations as part of the wider Project Team. These could be:

• Other UK-based business, academic institution, public sector organisation, charity or Research and Technology Organisation (RTO)

• For innovation-led projects, we strongly recommend that you seek support or sponsorship from an offshore wind end-user to ensure your project meets industry requirements and/or solves a real industry challenge. Evidence of such support should be included in your application.

If you do not have a Delivery Partner in mind, the OWGP may be able to help find appropriate companies to approach. Please get in touch with the team at [email protected] who can also direct you to the appropriate representative within your regional Cluster.

The Open Call has a two-staged application process. This will enable to the OWGP to• Manage the volume of applications• Determine eligibility early in the process• Notify applicants as early as possible• Identify the most appropriate assessors

• Only successful Stage 1 Applicants will be invited to submit a Stage 2 Application.

• The OWGP will review all Stage 1 Applications and notify applicants by 4th September 2020 of the decision.

• At this time successful Stage 1 Applicants will receive a Stage 2 Application form to complete and submit by 2nd October 2020.

SiG OW is based on the highly successful Sharing in Growth Aerospace Programme and is open to companies and organisations with the following characteristics:

UK companies already working inthe offshore wind sector requiringfocused support or strategic inputto enhance their future directionand growth opportunities

Site turnover of between£5m – 100m per annum

Ambitious companies looking to commit themselves to accelerate growth
