AgDiscovery program 2015 offered by USDA and ISU LEARN MORE ABOUT VET AND ANIMAL SCIENCE
March 6 is the application deadline for the AgDiscovery
Program 2015 offered by the USDA and ISU. The dates
for AgDiscovery 2015 are July 19-Aug. 1.
Iowa’s AgDiscovery program helps teenagers learn
about careers in veterinary medicine, animal science, la-
boratory technology and wildlife ecology.
Students live on the ISU campus in Ames and learn
from university professors, scientists who work for the US
government, and local agricultural producers and animal
welfare and management organizations.
Students who participate gain experience through
hands-on labs, workshops and field trips.
Activities will include field trips to several types of
farms; lab exercises such as bacterial culture, egg can-dling and inoculations, animal necropsies, veterinary clini-cal procedures, and diagnostic testing; and field trips to conservation areas, zoological facilities, animal shelters, and research facilities.
Students who have completed a general biology or animal science course will benefit most from the program activities.
AgDiscovery is made possible by a collaborative
agreement between USDA, Animal and Plant Health and
Inspection Services (APHIS) and Iowa State University.
Please contact Claudia Lemper, AgDiscovery program coordinator at 515-294-3591 or [email protected] . Or visit the website at agdiscovery.nrem.iastate.edu

Every June, almost 1,000 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for three
days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities.
If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend. You don't even have to be in 4-H to at-
tend this conference! You will get to experience campus life, and
meet new people from across the state! You will be having fun
while learning by doing, dancing the nights away, and serving the
community.
You will get to learn new things to take back to your community
and school, and in the process you might even discover something
new about yourself! There are opportunities for you to share your talents with the rest of the delega-
tion through small group discussion, the Conference Chorus, and a Talent Show!
If you have a specific interest in animal science, you might want to look into becoming part of the
ROUND-UP track! We'll also have a special track devoted to agronomy, called CSI: Crops.
If you'd like to be part of the team to capture the Conference in photos, join our Iowa 4-H Youth
Camera Corps, and bring your camera. We're doing things a little differently this year and you'll get
to learn photo skills and put them to work through the workshop series.
Please join us in June for the most incredible three days of your life at the Iowa 4-H Youth Con-
ference! We will be sharing updates with plans for the 2015 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference as they
come available--please see the side bars for additional information and live links!
The Fremont County Youth Committee summer camp scholarship would help pay for this. Dead-
line to apply for the summer camp scholarship is April 1.
