FAQHow many charities use Charity Checkout?There are thousands of charities using Charity Checkout and many more joining each day. We have clients such as: Harrison's Fund, Tourettes Action, MTV Staying Alive Foundation and The Royal Society of Arts all using our platform on a daily basis.
Are our donations safe with Charity Checkout?Yes. We pay out donations every month, and they are always held in a clients' account prior to being distributed. This ensures that your donations are completely ring-fenced and will always be protected.
Is Charity Checkout a secure payment portal?Yes. All donations made through Charity Checkout are securely encrypted and processed using SSL with a minimum 128-bit encryption and firewalls. We only store card data on PCI DSS Level 1 compliant servers, the highest level of security.
What information do we receive about the donors who give through Charity Checkout?We will pass on all the data to your charity, including the donor’s full name, e-mail address, address and phone number, if they have provided one. We provide you with instant access to this data both via your online account and in Microsoft Excel format.
Can we reclaim the Gift Aid ourselves?Yes. We provide you with access to all the relevant data you require, should you wish to reclaim Gift Aid in-house. However, there is no additional cost to having Charity Checkout reclaim the Gift Aid for your charity.
What payment methods does Charity Checkout offer?We offer both single and recurring debit/ credit card donation options, including: Visa, Visa Electron, Master-Card, Maestro and Delta. American Express and our Direct Debit platform are also available, on request.
If the donor contacts us asking to cancel their donation can we do that for them?Yes. You can login to your online account at any time and cancel future payments that have already been set-up to your charity via a recurring donation.
Can we use Charity Checkout to sell goods, services or tickets?Yes. We have a feature designed specifically for processing payments for memberships and event tickets.
When do we receive the Gift Aid on donations made to us via Charity Checkout?Charity Checkout is an approved HMRC Gift Aid Agent. We can reclaim Gift Aid every month on the 20th of each month, or the nearest working day thereafter for any donations made via Charity Checkout the month prior. The Gift Aid is paid directly to your charity by HMRC, including any interest owed.
Can we issue ‘thank you’ messages to our donors via Charity Checkout?Yes. Charity Checkout has a return URL function, which can be used to direct donors to a web page of your choice after they have completed their donation. This can be used to direct donors to a ‘thank you’ message on your charity’s own website. You can also customise the payment receipt your supporters receive to automatically include a ‘thank you’ message.
Are there transaction fees when using Charity Checkout?The standard transaction costs are just 5% of the gross donation, which includes Gift Aid, plus card processing fees.
Can we use Charity Checkout to fundraise via social media?Yes. You can use Charity Checkout to easily set-up custom donation pages, enabling you to run effective campaigns via Twitter and Facebook. You can also integrate Charity Checkout with your charity’s Facebook page.
Can Charity Checkout guarantee we will receive donations?We offer services that will help your charity increase the amount of donations it receives online. However, we cannot guarantee that you will receive donations from the public.
Is there a maximum donation amount via Charity Checkout?A maximum amount of £5,000 applies to donations via through Charity Checkout. However, this can sometimes be increased upon request.
Is there a minimum donation amount via Charity Checkout?A minimum amount of £1 applies to donations made via Charity Checkout.
I represent a small unregistered charity or a social enterprise. Can we join?Yes. Please give us a call or send us an email if you wish to join.
Is Charity Checkout available in my country?We support charities in the USA, UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia.
How will you transfer the donations to us?We will transfer donations via Bacs each month. If your bank account is unable to accept Bacs payments, we can send a cheque on request. There is a £3 admin charge for payment transfer via cheque.
When do we receive the donations made to us via Charity Checkout?We pay out credit/ debit card donations in complete monthly batches on the 20th of each month, or the nearest working day thereafter. Direct Debit donations are paid out every 3-5 working days.
Who owns and operates Charity Checkout?Charity Checkout is exclusively owned and operated by Online Giving Ltd, a social enterprise company limited by shares. We handle all aspects of our operation entirely in-house and maintain extremely high standards.
