Thank youYou are truly awesomeAs a CanTeener I can guarantee the services you’re helping to provide are really vital to young people living with cancer.

In November 2010, at just twenty years old, my older brother and only sibling James was diagnosed with inoperable Renal Translocation Carcinoma (cancer of the kidney). Twelve months later he passed away.

Our family’s life changed so quickly. I lost touch with a lot of my friends; no one knew what to say. Until I joined CanTeen, I thought no one would ever understand what I was going through. I thought I had to deal with the grief of losing my big brother on my own.

Thanks to you, CanTeen provides young people like me with a safe place to meet other young people who understand what we’re dealing with and how we feel. Being able to talk openly about my brother made a world of difference.

Walking into a room and feeling understood is incredibly empowering. I’ve learned how to face my pain, process my grief in a constructive way and learned new tools to move forward. Now on the worst of days I no longer feel alone.

So once again, thank you for choosing to support CanTeen. Without people like you our organisation wouldn’t be there to support young people living with cancer.

Best wishes

Lucy CoombesCanTeen President

Donate your dayIs it your birthday? Your anniversary? Maybe your wedding? If everyone’s asking you what you want and you’ve got no answer then ask your loved ones to donate to CanTeen as their gift to you. Quiz masterGather the teams and put on a quiz. On top of an entry fee, why not offer the chance for teams to buy answers, it all adds to the competitive spirit and the funds you can raise!

Shave awayHeads, eyebrows, legs, backs. A shave or a wax is a great way to show your support and raise funds for young people living with cancer.

Get physicalWhether it’s your local marathon or road bike racing, climbing a mountain in high heels, running the length of New Zealnd in a tutu - there’s a million physical challenges out there, so why not raise funds while you challenge yourself?

Sweet toothThe bake sale is an oldie but a goodie. Everyone loves a cupcake or a cookie so bake up a storm and share at your club or workplace for a donation.

Dress downGet your school or workplace to ditch the uniform or dress code for a day and donate a dollar or two for the cause.
