  • Where will you find your mother todayIn a book or a cloud or a dream?

In those curious bits that make you strangeAs you swim against the stream?

In the effort you give when no one’s thereHow you mend a seam

Or you offer a chairHow you count your blessings

Or sing your talk? The strength in your shoulders

Or the dance in your walk? The way you cry when the ending’s true

Or in the smile on a child That carries you through?

How will you hold your mother todayIn your arms or your head or your heart?

And if you can’t see herPerhaps you will meet her

In all your most interesting parts.

  • INTRODUCTORY RITES

ENTRANCE MUSIC Here I Am Lord Text: Isaiah 6; Dan Schutte, b1947 Tune: Dan Schutte. b 1947; arr. By Michael Pope, SJ, John Weissrock © 1981, Daniel L. Schutte and New Dawn Music.

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin, my hand will save. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send? Refrain: Here I am Lord, is it I Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain. I have wept for love of them, they turn away. I will break their hearts of stone; give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send? Refrain I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame. I will set a feast for them. My hand will save. Finest bread I will provide, ’til their hearts be satisfied. I will give my life to them, whom shall I send? Refrain

Celebrant – In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

    All: – Amen.

  • GREETING

    C. – The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

    A. – And with your spirit.

    SPRINKLING WITH HOLY WATER

    C. – In the waters of baptism, Elaine died with Christ and rose with Him to new life. May she now share with Him in eternal glory. Amen.

    LIGHTING OF THE PASCHAL CANDLE

    C. – In baptism Elaine received the light of Christ. That light has guided her throughout her life. May she now enjoy the risen life with her risen Lord. Amen.

    C. – May almighty God have mercy on all of us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

PLACING OF THE PALL C. – At her baptism Elaine received the new garment, and was

asked to wear it spotlessly throughout her life. May the Lord not look on any wrong that she may have done during her life, but rather look upon her faithfulness to her God and her love for her family and friends. Amen.

    LITURGY OF THE WORD

    READING (2 Timothy 4: 6-8) Mark

A Reading from the Second Letter of Paul to Timothy

As for me, the time is here for me to leave this life. I have done my best in the race. I have run the full distance and I have kept the faith.

And now there is waiting for me the prize of victory awarded for a Righteous life, the prize which the Lord, the righteous judge will give me on the day – and not only to me, but to all those who wait with love for that time to appear. And the Lord will rescue me from all evil, and takes me safely into his Heavenly Kingdom. To him be the glory for ever and ever. The Word of the Lord.

    A. – Thanks be to God.

  • RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Crimond) The Lord's My Shepherd Text: Psalm 23, Scottish Psalter, 1650 Tune: CRIMOND, CM; Jessie Seymour Irvine, 1836-1887; harm. By David Grant, 1833-1893

The Lord's my Shepherd, I'll not want. He makes me down to lie In pastures green; He leadeth me The quiet waters by. My soul He doth restore again; And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness, Even for His own Name's sake. Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For Thou art with me; and Thy rod And staff me comfort still. My table Thou hast furnished In presence of my foes; My head Thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows. Goodness and mercy all my life Shall surely follow me; And in God's house for evermore My dwelling-place shall be.

  • ACCLAMATION (John 14: 1-6) A. – Alleluia, alleluia. I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.

No one can come to the Father except through me. Alleluia.

GOSPEL (John 14: 1-6) C. – The Lord be with you. A. – And with your spirit. C. – A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. A. – Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said to His disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you. I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am, you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said: “Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus said: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” The Gospel of the Lord. A. – Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

  • HOMILY

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL C. – For our sister Elaine, let us pray to our Lord Jesus Christ,

who said: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me shall live even in death and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”

Janet We thank you Lord for the gift of Elaine in our lives and the values she passed on to us and others. We ask that you welcome her into the joys of heaven. Lord, hear us. A. – Lord, hear our prayer. Sally We pray for Elaine's children, grandchildren and extended family, as they deal with their grief and loss. Comfort them in their sorrow and stay close to them in the days to come. Lord, hear us. A. – Lord, hear our prayer.

  • Joanne We pray for those we love who could not be with us today, whose presence is deeply missed at this time. In particular, Elaine's husband John and daughter Louise. Lord, hear us. A. – Lord, hear our prayer. Alex We thank you for our beautiful grandma, she loved us and always made us feel welcome. We love you and will always remember you. Lord, hear us. A. – Lord, hear our prayer. C. – God, our shelter and our strength, you listen to the cry of

your people: hear the prayers we offer for our departed brothers and sisters. Cleanse them of their sins and grant them the fullness of redemption. We ask you this through Christ Our Lord.

    A. – Amen.

  • THE LORD’S PRAYER C. – At the Saviour’s command and formed by divine

teaching, we dare to say: A. – Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

    C. – Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously

grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

    A. – For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever.

FINAL COMMENDATION C. – Before we go our separate ways, let us take leave of our

sister. May our farewell express our affection for her, may it ease our sadness and strengthen our hope. One day we shall joyfully greet her, when the love of Christ, which conquers all things, destroys even death itself.

  • SONG OF FAREWELL C. – Saints of God, come to her aid! Hasten to meet her, angels

of the Lord. A. – Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High. C. – May Christ, who called you, take you to himself; may

angels lead you to the bosom of Abraham. A. – Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High. C. – Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light

shine upon her. A. – Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High.

  • PRAYER OF COMMENDATION C. – Into your hands, Father of mercies, we commend our sister

Elaine, in the sure and certain hope that, together with all who have died in Christ, she will rise with Him on the last day. Merciful Lord, turn to us and listen to our prayers, open the gates of paradise to your servant and help us who remain to comfort one another with the assurances of faith, until we all meet in Christ and are with you and with our sister for ever.

    A. – Amen. C. – May the angels lead you into paradise, may the martyrs

come to welcome you and take you into the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

    A. – Amen. RECESSIONAL MUSIC Hail Queen of Heaven
