Seasonal Tips

By: RaeLee Tate-Wyatt

September is the perfect harvest season and is time to get

ready for the winter months. September’s name comes from the

Latin word Septem meaning “seven”. September was the seventh

month of the early Roman calendar.

Get ready for fall! The Autumnal Equinox, which is when the sea-

sons are opposite on either side of the equator, falls on Septem-

ber 22, 2017 at 4:02 P.M.

People like to think of September as the month of home-

grown. Here’s an Apple Pie recipe for this fruit of the season:

Apple Pie Ingredients

Pastry for a double crust 9-inch pie

6 cups sliced Northern Spy ap-

ples or Granny Smith

¾ cup of sugar

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

½ cup of nutmeg

Scant teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of vanilla

2 tablespoons of butter, melted

3 tablespoons of flour, plus ex-

tra to sprinkle crust

2 to 3 tablespoons of Crisco, to

brush crust

Place one piece of crust in a 9 in. pie pan.

Mix ingredients together and pour into pie pan. Top with other half of

pie crust. Pinch together edges. Poke top of crust with fork for ventila-

tion, and brush with Crisco.

Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes

Lower heat to 350° F and continue baking for 30 more minutes

September is the perfect month to start your fall crafts,

hang your decorations, and drink pumpkin spice coffee or other

seasonal drinks or foods. It is the most beautiful time of the

month to some people because of the leaves on the trees start to

change. Others love it because it’s the beginning of football sea-

son. Also it’s the month to prepare for the oncoming hunting

seasons. Get ready breakout your fall/winter clothes because

that chilly time of year is coming!!

Did you know that Grandparent’s

Day was celebrated on

September 10 this year,? So honor

your grandparents –

today and everyday!!

School Life Hacks

By Rebecca Williams

» Writing down your worries before taking an exam has been proven to actually boost your test scores.

» Giving a presentation? Bring a bottle of water to the stage. When you can't remember what to say or what your supposed to say, take a drink; nobody will know the difference.

» Eating chocolate while studying helps the brain retain new information easily and is directly linked to high scores.

» Listen to your favorite song before bed can help you sleep better, wake up easier, and enhance your mood for the upcoming day.

» You are more likely to remember something you've writ-ten in blue ink than something you've written in black ink.

» When you're finished with an essay, copy and paste it into Google translate and listen to it. It's the easiest way to find mistakes.

» If you ever get caught sleeping on the job or school, slowly raise your head and say "in Jesus' name, amen".

Below is some advice from seniors:

“Don't try to walk in the middle of the hallway." -

RaeLee Tate-Wyatt "Don't goof off! Stay focused on your grades" -Hannah

Highfill "Don't allow your friends to define who you are... If they don't except you for you, then let them

go." -Caitlen Harper You should also "respect the upperclassmen.” -

The Oktaha Tigers

baseball team is in

class A and are

ranked number 1.

The Oktaha Tigers

have had a great

season and are go-

ing on strong. As of

September 25th, they

are 25-5— that’s means that they have won 25 games

and lost 5.

The seniors on the fall baseball team are Coo-

per Pendley (outfield), Zack Irvin (pitcher), Kobe Edgar

(outfield), Brayden Rodden (catcher), Logan Thomas

(outfield), Ty Meaders (outfield), Matt Erwin (second

base), Kobe Howe (third base), and Jake Robbins

(pitcher). The Tigers are coached by Coach Rodden.

When I interview sen-

ior Matt Erwin, he said,

“Coach Rodden has been

my biggest influence.

We spend a lot of time

together between prac-

tices, weight lifting,

and games. He taught

me a lot about disci-

pline and consistency.”

He also told me the best part about baseball is win-

ning and being on the team with his friends.

When asked about his strengths and weaknesses

as a coach, Coach Rodden said his “strength is ex-

perience, and (his) weakness is being impatient.” His

love of the game began a 21-year (and counting)

coaching career.

Three Ways to Be a Better Person By: Kilee Holder

The first way to be a better person is to accept change. Like they say, the only constant in life is change. Be willing to change in order to grow and progress into the person you want to become. Every situation in life changes you in some way, so keep an open mind and welcome the change. The second way to become a better person is to be polite. Manners that you learned when you were a kid, are basics for a lifetime. Simple words like “thank you” and “please” don’t cost you a thing, and in return you could make someone’s day. Pulling out a chair for someone, holding the door until they enter: these small acts of kindness go a long way in defining who you are. Don’t let others’ behavior determine yours. The third way to being a better person is to forgive and forget. You need to learn to forgive yourself as well as forgive others. Mistakes do happen; forgiveness will automatically attract positive vibes into your life. Forgiving and forgetting can be practiced with a little help from yoga. Yoga can help because it is relaxing and calming.

Practicing these 3 things can change your life in a positive way. Accepting change, being polite, and forgiving and forgetting are simple steps to being a better person.
