BALDI: FIRENzE 1867, HISTORY OF TRADITION
Art as heritage. Art as tradition. Art as a passion. This is BALDI, from the cradle of Rinascimento to the heart of a worldwide renowned production. For its refined taste, its great aesthetic sense and a workmanship tradition which turns ancient techniques and original practices into real works of art.
Artists and artisans, inspiration and handicraft, creativity and devotion: a unique patrimony dating back to 1867 and blending in today’s BALDI.Today as it was in the past. Always respecting the most ancient handicraft techniques. From the great traditions of two great families, Ponzianiand Consani, starts a single business in Florence, city of art and cradle of the Rinascimento, which still gives life to works and replicas of great value.
Vincenzo Consani (1818 - 1887), a very refined and renowned sculptor of the Canova school, made various statues and busts, as well as memorials in the neo-classical style, still treasured in very prestigious palaces and museums– such as “La Vittoria” at the Palazzo Pitti, the “Amazzone ferita” at the Quirinale in Roma. LA VITTORIA (1867) BY VINCENZO CONSANI
NOW EXHIBITED AT PALAZZO PITTI, GALLERIA PALATINA – FIRENZE
A rewarded artist of the ars scultorea, Vincenzo Consani handed down to posterity his inclination to dealing with materials, his perception of beauty, his tireless longing for stopping the time with shapes.
In the early 1800’s the Ponziani family was running its restoration workshop of antique furniture in Florence.
The passion for antichità, the perfect mastery of working techniques such as lacquering, gilding and varnishing,as well as the great artistic taste which has alwaysanimated the Ponziani Bottega, made it famous not only for the restoration but also for the reproduction of furniture, sculptures and candelabras, an heritage coming from the past to the present.
Generation after generation, BALDI has handed down its artisans a great ma-stery in reproducing artigianalmente objects and works of art.

BALDI ETHOS
When the work gets hard, there is nothing better than enjoying some diversions - claim Paolo Consani Baldi and Anna Ponziani. Indulging in a buoyant lifestyle is necessary for developing new ideas, for enjoying the beauty of our creations: We, Baldi, have loved giving shape to art and fine decorations for many generations and we would misunderstand the sense of our home jewels if we spent most of the time in the workshop.
Florence and the Chiantishire, where the Baldis live, are great places for learning how to take the days easy and feel cool. In fact, from the sunny cypress hills to the nice old streets full of cafes, it is always possible to find a reason for smiling with your friends and remember to face everything with a good spirit. It has been like this for ages, since the foundation of the company in the nineteenth century.
Indeed Baldi was established in 1867, as the Florentine atelier of our ancestor, sculptor Vincenzo Consani – one of the most important pupils in Canova’s school. With his statues, amongst wich La Vittoria (alongside), he made a great contri-bution to the culture in Italy, leaving Baldi a legacy of a taste for grace and shape.
What was, and still is, a passion for luxurious objects is contemporarily a passion for life, because only the everyday ple-asures can provide the eagerness to get involved in new challenges, in the design of new collections or in new business ventures around the world. It is only thanks to the ability of being enthusiastic that we can also be professional - to the extent that it is hard to tell where the duty ends and the amusement starts.
Baldi’s approach, which has led to the collections proposed in this catalogue, is to taylor-make creations around the client’s wishes. We do not interpret the most precious complements as the dusty interior decorations of a museum, but like something that can always give joy in the home living spaces, because life is ultimately the real art piece and art is one of the most supreme and splendid luxuries, the greatest pleasure that you can give yourself.
THIS IS OUR ETHOS,THIS IS THE BALDI STYLE OF LIVING

BALDI, THE ARTISTIC CRAFTSmANSHIPIN THE 21ST CENTURY
Baldi spans the full range of artistic excellence. His profound knowledge and experience of traditional techniques and craftsmanship meet his contemporary and innovative business vision, which opens to the future thanks to groundbreaking manufacturing processes.
The use of colorful stones in the production of decorative objects was popular in Italy since the Renaissance where the work of precious stones was flourishing in Florence under the influence of the Medici family.
Towards the middle of 17th Century, when the construction of St. Petersburg began, the Italian stone masters and architects took part in the construction works together with the Russian artisans and artists.
Always respecting the most ancient handicraft techniques:from the stones cut, to the chisel shaping, the lost wax casting, to the gilding.
The artisans working for BALDI are experts accurately selected according to their inclination to dealing with materials, professionals capable of interpreting our perception of beauty, our tireless longing for stopping time with shapes.
We only use first quality raw materials and semiprecious stones coming from every part of the world.

BALDI BOUTIQUES
With their prestige and characteristics, the monobrand Baldi Boutiques represent the company image in the world: they stage the dream world interior atmospheres which have become the trademark of Baldi.
The Boutiques concept is that of linking the Italian baroque tradition with the clean, sleek lines of a modern design that best highlights the collections. The visual idea, created by Luca Bojola, Baldi’s art director, is based on shaping a space that is capable of expressing the Baldi spirit, a champion of international bespoke style and craftsmanship.
The first ever boutique was unveiled in Harrods during 2008, inside of Great Britain’s temple of luxury, which is the finest department store for discerning shoppers from all over the world.
Located on the Home Department Luxury Gift Room on the second floor, Baldi’s first commercial space is a tribute to the Italian taste and style thanks to a commitment to highest quality and service to the client, the greatest faithfulness to the prestige of the brand and its elite connotation.

STAgINg BALDI
While setting the lights and preparing the photo shooting, Baldi gets ready for presenting their self: it feels as fascinating as staging a play.
A true Baldi collection, in fact, is not only made out of precious materials but is also constituted by all the life that revolves around it - a changing dynamic essence - which is a wonderful challenge to try to define visually.
People are in full swing on the back stage, between the furniture masterpieces, the crystals and the bronze lighting. And as the representation starts, the baroque dream of opulence turns into the contemporary charm of a lavish interior atmosphere.

In this new facility, inaugurated less than two years ago, all the company departments and the production processes are gathered under the same roof, with great advantages for innovation and coordination.
The very heart of it is the meeting room, also known as the acquarium, because of its transparent bowel shape, where all the impartant decisions for the company are taken around a rock crystal table.
And last in time, a new showroom has just been opened to the public, with full display of the Baldi creations and previews of the latest collections.
