In Person Learning Option
4
Rationale for having all students come every day for Early Childhood - 8th grade
5
The district sent a survey to all parents at the end of June and asked whether people wanted to alternate days of student attendance and allow for maximum social distancing or have all students attend each day. Of the almost 8,000 parents indicating they wanted an in-person option, 66% chose the every day with all students option over the option of alternating days of attendance to maximize social distancing.
In Person for Early Childhood ● Students will participate in face to face learning five days per
week for assigned session a. AM: 8:00 am - 10:15 am or PM: 11:45 am - 2:00 pmb. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program held at Prairie Point
will meet 8:00 am - 12:00 pm● Sand and water tables will not be used. Shared materials will be
sanitized between use● All writing and art materials will be used only by one student● Circle time will include smaller groups in assigned spaces● Gross motor classes will be held outdoors as weather permits;
classes will contain no more than 50 individuals per session
6
In Person for Elementary
● In Person Learning students will participate in face to face learning five days per week and attendance times have been shortened to 8:10 am - 12:10 pm
● For Elementary students, instruction and assignments in science and specials (Art, Library, Music, and P.E.) will be provided for completion at home
● Lunch will occur at home ● A full day care option will be operated at each elementary school by
the Oswegoland Park District’s Kids Connection Program. The program will focus on the continuation of learning and enrichment activities.
7
In Person for Junior High ● In Person Learning students will participate in face to face
learning five days per week and attendance times have been shortened to 9:00 am - 1:00 pm with additional time at home for assignment and remote work completion.
● In person classes will be held three periods per day for approximately 70 minutes each.
● Independent reading and writing activities will be done remotely. ● PE and Health classes will be conducted through remote learning.
8
In Person for High School ● Students will attend face to face learning two or three days per
week, normal times (7:20 am - 2:26 pm)● Students will be assigned in two sections, split by alphabet using
last name, that will alternate attendance days (Tues/Thur or Wed/Fri). Mondays (when school is in session) will rotate between the two groups
● Additionally, there will be some days scheduled when all students will learn off site
9
What will Band/Choir look like?
● Band/Choir students in Junior High and High School will have class time during in-person learning.
● Additional discussions will take place on 7/23 with 33 Band/Choir directors and administrative team members
10
Face Coverings
11
● All individuals in schools must wear face coverings over their nose and mouth at all times while in SD 308 school buildings and on school buses, even when maintaining social distance, in accordance with guidance established by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education.
● Face coverings are not required on school property outside of the buildings if individuals are able to remain 6 feet apart from each other.
● Face coverings may be removed for limited periods of time as necessary for a student to eat/drink.
● Each SD 308 student will be issued a cloth face mask. Students may wear the District- issued face mask or another cloth face covering that complies with District Policy 7:160 and rules on student dress contained in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
● Clear face shields are not an appropriate substitution for face coverings as they do not offer the same level of protection against the coronavirus.
Face Coverings - Accommodations/Exemptions
12
● Parent /guardian of students who have a medical contraindication to using a face covering may request an accommodation.
● Requests include completion of a Medical Certification for Student Face Covering Exemption / Accommodation, certified by a medical provider. The decision to grant an exemption or accommodation will be made on a case-by-case basis.
● Alternatives to a face covering for students with an approved exemption will be used where possible (face shield, greater distancing, etc.).
● District-issued silicone bands will be provided to students to help easily identify approved exemptions.
● Exceptions for role-specific employee face coverings will be developed by Health Services in coordination with Special Education and distributed through Human Resources.
COVID-19 Symptoms Include:● Fever of 100.4 F or greater or chills● Cough● Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing● Fatigue● Muscle or body aches● Headache● New loss of taste or smell● Sore throat● Congestion or runny nose● Nausea or vomiting● Diarrhea
13
Student Exposure / Exclusion / Notification Process as of July 21
14
Student has a positive COVID-19 case:1. Student must stay home for a minimum of 10 days from symptom onset or positive
COVID-19 result.2. Additionally, student cannot return until at least 24 hours has elapsed from resolution of fever
without fever-reducing medication.
Notification: Notification must be made to all close contacts of exposure to a known case (within 6 ft, more than 15 mins)- ie, classmates, busmates, etc.
Siblings/Housemates: Those sharing living quarters with a positive student must quarantine for 14 days.
Cleaning Procedures: The area the student was in/used should be closed off for 24 hours prior to disinfection, if possible. A deep cleaning and sanitizing should take place including all hard and soft surfaces of the space. If at least 7 days has elapsed since the student was last at school, regular cleaning procedures will be adequate.
Student Exposure / Exclusion / Notification Process as of July 21
15
Student exhibits a symptom either while at school or is called out absent for a symptom by a parent/guardian:
1. Student exhibiting symptom(s) will be sent home if present at school.2. Student must remain home until:
a. Ten days of isolation passes and symptoms are resolved (fever free at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication)
b. OR provides documentation of a negative COVID-19 testc. OR provides an alternative diagnosis or cause from a physician that includes a release to attend school.
Notification: There is no official notification required for exposure.
Siblings/Housemates: Parents of the sick child are encouraged to watch other children for symptoms and may choose to keep them home while awaiting clearance from a test or physician for the sick sibling.
Cleaning Procedure: Use soap and water, then disinfectant wipes or spray/towels in the area student was sitting, and wipe down any materials the student used that are left behind in class. Deep cleaning of the space will occur each evening. **If a bodily fluid (such as vomit) was expelled in the occupied classroom, all students should be moved to an alternate classroom for that day until deep cleaning and sanitizing can occur.
16
1. Send all symptomatic students home until cleared by a medical professional or completion of the required isolation period.
2. Collection of specific symptoms for all students called in absent must be gathered and included in the daily sick student /staff list.
3. All probable and positive cases should be reported by a call to the health department. The county of residence of the student should be notified, but also Kendall Co should be notified for tracing.
4. The health department will contact all COVID-19 positive cases in their county for follow up.5. It is vital to stress the importance of having face coverings on, using hand washing/sanitizer
frequently, and being socially distanced as much as possible to avoid transmission. 6. Two or more cases (not the same household) is considered an outbreak.
This guidance was developed under the direction of the Kendall County Health Department in coordination with the Illinois Department of Public Health.Guidance is evolving, and subject to change.
Additional Health Guidance
How will students be screened?
17
Students should not attend school while experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19
● At the start of the school year, parents/guardians will be notified of reporting and quarantine requirements for students who experience COVID-19 symptoms.
● Parents must certify their understanding to comply with these requirements. ● It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to daily assess student wellness for the
presence of any symptoms of COVID-19. ● If a symptom is present, the parent/guardian must report the symptom to the
school and comply with any applicable isolation requirements. ● A self-certification process in conjunction with a selective check of in-school
temperature screening and symptom check system is currently being developed.
Behavior Expectations for Students ● Students must follow all Rights/Responsibilities Student Handbook guidelines
regardless of the learning environment (in-person or remote)● Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must agree to district requirements when making a
learning environment selection in Tyler. Exceptions to requirements must be prescribed in a student’s approved medical exemption.
● Student or parent/guardian refusal to comply with expectations, including those related to COVID-19, will be addressed per the Rights/Responsibilities Student Handbook guidelines by building administration:○ Section VIII. B. Gross Misconduct /Disobedience
■ Item 8. Insubordination/Disobeying Rules○ Administrator response includes review of report/incident, student due
process, and a case-by-case response to behavior (per SB 100) to include appropriate disciplinary consequences and/or interventions/supports
18
Remote Learning by Choice Option
19
Remote by Choice or Remote for All Remote by Choice is for parents that choose that option even if the rest of the school / district is in person
Remote for All is for the students that had been in person instruction but can no longer because the school / district is shut down
20
Remote by Choice Instruction
How will this remote learning be different than it was last Spring?
Time The average student will have 5 hours of combined learning activities and instruction
Grading Grades and assessments will be assigned as they would in the typical school year
Attendance Remote learning students will be assigned to a District Remote Learning teacher. They will be given a daily assignment that they must respond to online. Based on the information collected, daily attendance will be entered into Tyler Student Information System by the District Remote Learning teacher for the students on their remote learning classroom roster.

● A listing of classes can be found at www.sd308.org/reopening ● Students with IEPs may have a limited choice selection● Any student who receives an alternative curriculum through their
IEP will not be utilizing Edgenuity but will receive instruction by an SD 308 teacher.
28
What will band/choir look like for Remote Learning by Choice? ● Additional discussions will take place on 7/23 with 33 band/choir
directors and administrative team members
29
Why did we choose Edgenuity rather than utilizing staff to create remote learning by choice for 6-12 ?● We have used this platform for several years● We have access to all of these courses with no
additional cost to the district● Staff would need to monitor the students in person
and in remote at the same time ● Similar assessments of students would be difficult
to do simultaneously with in person and remote instruction
30
General Concerns of Fall Options
31
We may have many staff out during in-person instruction time for a variety of reasons. ● Quarantine guidelines may cause many staff to miss school● Staff leaves/medical conditions - we currently have 170 employees that
have put in for a leave or a medical exemption to work from home.
We may need to shut down during COVID outbreaks.
We will incur additional expenses such as the cost of PPE or devices. There is not enough funding for both in the amount of the CARES Act and Digital Equity Grants.
We have already encountered delays and lack of availability in some of the needed PPE equipment.
