WHAT IS GLASS???

Page 4: Fuso Technical Presentation

“Glass is a hard, fragile and transparent material” also referred as Super Cool Liquid

Composition : Silica, Sodium Carbonate, Soda Lime, Soda Ash & Raw Glass (Cullet)

Advantages of Glass

Page 6: Fuso Technical Presentation

Let us now look at various applications of glass that we see in our daily life

Page 9: Fuso Technical Presentation

Raw glass is generally referred as Annealed glass / Kaccha glass

It is very fragile & easily breakable into sharp & dangerous knife like pieces

FUSO MAKES GLASS INTERESTING & USABLE

BY INDUCING

SAFETY, STRENGTH & ENERGY EFFICIENCY

WITH VARIOUS PROCESSES

Page 14: Fuso Technical Presentation

Annealed glass is heated to a temperature of 650 degrees centigrade and rapidly cooled (quenched) down by uniform blast of air.

TOUGHENED GLASS

Page 15: Fuso Technical Presentation

Advantages4-5 times stronger than annealed glassImpact resistant Breaks into harmless small crystalsIncreases resistance to thermal cracks

DisadvantagesCannot be cut once toughenedRelatively high optical distortion

Applications

Page 20: Fuso Technical Presentation

Glass once toughened can break spontaneously without any warrant. This may be due to possible NiS content in raw glass. To reduce the probability (98%), glasses are subjected to temperature of about 280 degrees for few hours. It’s a destructive testing method.

....... ...“Late last year the Australian Building Codes Board agreed to implement a national test for impurities in new toughened glass panes by heat soaking them. “This latest achievement will help stop impure panes of new toughened glass being fitted in tall buildings where sufficient protection from falling glass, such as balconies or awnings, is not provided. “From 1 May, a new test for new high-rise glass window panes will be phased in over a 12-month period to allow industry to adjust.’’

Mr Hinchliffe said from May 1 the Australian Building Code would be amended to include the new test provisions. The test, for glass in all windows more than 5m above floor or ground level, will become mandatory in May 2011.......

Two glass panes are separated by aluminium spacer filled with desiccant (drying agent) and surrounded by primary sealant such as polyisobutylene. It is finally sealed with secondary sealant such as polysulphide / silicon. These units are commonly referred as Insulated Glazed Units (IGU) /Double Glazed Units (DGU)

Bullet-Resistant Glass

Bullet resistant glass (colloquially known as bullet proof glass) is a type of strong but optically transparent glass shield that is particularly resistant to being penetrated when struck by bullets. It is also known as transparent armour.Bullet resistant glass is usually manufactured using polycarbonate thermoplastic & layers of laminated glass

Fuso - Infrastructure

Page 53: Fuso Technical Presentation

– Online edge deletion– Clean room for glass assembly– Automatic spacer bending facility– Automatic desiccant (bead size of 0.6mm dia) filling facility– Robotic sealant sealing (Vertical sealing)– 4 sided step glazing– Direct / Indirect advantages to customers

• Minimal deflection in glass while application of secondary sealant thereby ensuring minimal optical distortion

• Uniform sealant application without bubbles• Ensures accurate sealant bite in the IGU• Bendable spacer strongly reduces chances of condensation• Lesser contact of desiccant with air thereby enhancing lifespan of IGU• Smaller dia of desiccant (i.e 0.6mm) ensures denser filling (95%) which in turn enhances lifespan of

IGU. Note : Desiccant used by most of the processors is of 1.2mm dia which results in mere 65% filling.

• Accurate and speedy filling of desiccant in the aluminium spacer• All the above facilities enhances overall lifespan of IGU• Speedy production
