4. WAIT—youwillreceiveanemailwhenyourapplicationhasbereceived.Itwillthengiveyouanestimatedtimeinwhichyoushouldhaveyourpassport/visaback.

Youmightconsidergettinganexpediteservicefortheapprovalofyourstudentvisa.Thiscostanextra$170orso,butmightbeworthitiftheprocesstimeisbeyondthedateofyourflighttotheUK.Rememberthatwhenyouapplyforthevisa,youwillhavetosendinyourpassport.Thus,youcannotleavethecountryuntilyouhaveyourvisaandpassportback.DeanPolitohasacontactthatcanspeedtheapplicationwiththisfee.

Applyingforavisaassoonasyoucommittotheinternshipisextremelyimportant.Thiswholeprocesstakesquiteabitoftime.So,thesoonerthebetter.Ifyoudonothaveavisa,youcannotworkintheUK.Ifyoudonothaveyourpassport,youcannotleavetheUS.During your European travels, UK customs officers will check your visa each time youenterbackintotheUK.Youwillmostlikelyhavetoanswerafewquestionsandgetyourfingerprints taken each time. By getting the Visa, you won’t need to carry around thedocumentsthatyourfriendswhoarenotinterninghavetocarry.TheVisaissufficient.

Theguidelineforthenumberofhoursinthepasthasbeen13-15perweek.Dependingonyourschedulethiscanbedoneintwoorthreedaysperweek.YourschedulewillrelyontheclassscheduleGrahamcreateswhichhappensjustafewdaysbeforethetripstarts.Itisbesttocreateaconsistentschedule.Thiswillalloweveryoneintheofficetoappropriatelyplanoutwhentheycanrelyonyoutocompleteprojects.Ofnote,themaximumis20hoursaweekandyoushouldavoidfallingbelow12hours.However,therewereweekswheretheGabelliLondonprogramschedulestripswhichtakeprecedentoverKPMG.OncethesedatesarereleasednotifyJonandwhoeveryoumaybeworkingdirectlywithatthattime.PleasenotethetripsthatyouplanshouldnottakeawayfromyourhoursatKPMG.Thehierarchyofyoursemesterwouldbe:Class,GabelliLondonEvents,KPMG,andthenPersonalTravel/Activities.

Dresscode

Men:SmartCasualisthedresscode,butbeawareitisabitdifferentintheUK.Onmostdaystheguyswearsuits,butwithoutthetie.Bringatleast2suitswithyoutoalternate.Itisalsoacceptabletowearjustadressshirtwithoutthejacket,orasweaterwiththedressshirtunderneath.Forshoes,atleastonepairshouldbeblack.

Women:Again,thedresscodeissmartcasual.Lookprofessionalandputtogether.Asuitisnotnecessaryeachday,however,skirts,blouses,sweaters,etc.are.

Onthefirstday,come“suitedandbooted.”

Itisbesttoalwayshaveajacket/blazerandtiewithyouastheywillberequiredintheeventthatChrisinvitesyoutoaclientmeetingortocertainevents.Theydon’tneedtobealwaysworn,but
