The new platform for decision-makers at technical level and specialists in powertrain technology broadens the communication beyond the usual technical boundaries and promotes new contacts. Learn More ACEA | Media advisory dated 22/01/2020 The EU auto industry launched a 10- point plan to help implement the European Green Deal The European Automobile Manufacturers Association ACEA launched in Brussels on 22 January 2020 a 10- point plan to help implement the European Green Deal, in which the 16 major automobile manufacturers set out how CO2 emissions can be further reduced in the most effective way. At the press conference, Michael Manley, ACEA President and CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), emphasized three priorities for climate neutrality of the transportation sector in 2050: remaining technology neutral – rolling out across the EU a dense network of charging points and re-fuelling stations for electric vehicles – developing consistent and economically-sustainable incentive schemes for users of both cars and commercial vehicles. Investing €57.4 billion in R&D annually, the automotive sector is Europe's largest private contributor to innovation. Much of this investment is dedicated to clean mobility solutions. Learn More UNECE | Media advisory dated 20/01/2020 UN GRPE launched regulatory package for RDE test procedures On 17th January the GRPE (Working Group on Pollution and Energy), a subsidiary body of the UNECE World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations, presented the final draft of a new UN regulation on the WLTP test procedure, which is due to be adopted in June 2020 and enter into force in January 2021. The draft UN regulation builds on the Global Technical Regulation (GTR) for WLTP adopted by the World Forum 2015 and adds administrative provisions on conformity of production, durability and pollutatnt emission limits. Vehicles type-registered and approved for mutual recognition under the new regulation will need to comply with stringent emission limits for hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). This will ensure that emissions remain under the set limits whether the vehicle is driven in urban, rural or motorway environments. Furthermore, a specific accelerated ageing test will be introduced to guarantee that new vehicles' pollution control devices remain fully effective up to 160,000 km. The FVV Planning Group 5 "Engine Dynamics & Acoustics" headed by Prof. Dr. Christoph Brands (Schaeffler Technologies) lays the groundwork for this with numerous projects which range from the detailed analysis of single engine components to automated processes for engine noise and transfer path analysis into the vehicle interior. Learn More MTZ WORLDWIDE 02/2020 PG1 | Extension of the Characteristic Map of a TC Compressor by Active Cross-Section Variation Downsizing in a single-stage turbocharged engine concept goes hand in hand with the trade-off between high rated power and acceptable performance in the lower engine speed range. In order to extend the stable characteristic map range, a variable cross- section concept for the radial compressor has been analyzed. The investigations were carried out as part of an FVV research project (1194) at the Leibniz University Hannover and the Technical University Braunschweig. Based on a decision taken by the German Bundestag, the project was supported within the framework of the Industrial Collective Research (IGF) programme (IGF No. 18572 N) by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the AIF. It was coordinated by an expert group led by Marc Sens (IAV). The EU auto industry launched a 10-point plan to help implement theEuropean Green Deal
