Goals and objectives for this internship experience: The GPSI Intern will assist with job duties within the Bureau

of Collections - Technical Recovery Section. The intern will be responsible for assisting with the Liens and Estates Asset

Discovery Programs. This will also require some fact finding and evaluation of cases. The intern will also be responsible for

verification of County Death and Probate lists, and duties involved with processing the death listings. Other duties that the

intern will assist with include running statistical reports as needed, assist with processing unit reports, running comparative

reports, and other duties as assigned. The interns will assist in the capturing the group of MAGI ACA clients with a category of

assistance code “94” and a MANG P code “G”. They will assist with securing this information for Executive staff to utilize by

means of reports with the objective of making lien and estate claims on this newly established benefit group of clients. To learn

the Technical Recovery Case Management System (TRCMS) computer system to be able to work with the new ACA

requirements for data in this system. This will require analysis of the assets of clients to be entered and tracked regarding life

insurance, trusts, property information, annuities, prepaid burial/funeral, pensions, retirements, and IRS's.

research data on State computer systems, analyze data, and see the process of collection of funds. The intern will learn the

functions of operations between different State agencies.

opportunity to understand the day-to-day activities of operational management as well as provide the experience to create new

processes and strategies to strengthen contracts and operations. This intern will gain knowledge in Illinois' Medicaid managed

care programs, learn to educate Medicaid providers and clients about those programs, and gain understanding on what care

coordination is and how care coordination works. The intern will learn the logistics and components of managed care

operations, how to monitor managed care contracts, how state and federal laws play a key part in those operations, and how to

familiar with the programs operating within BQM and the federal, state and grant-related requirements of each program. The

intern will learn about existing departmental policies and procedures related to maternal health/family planning/reproductive

health/women's health. The intern will learn:

a) ways that data are used to make programmatic and policy decisions;

b) to analyze the claims data within the EDW to identify trends in disease prevalence, use of preventive and screening services

(i.e., breast and cervical cancer screenings, service utilization) in order to improve quality of care and access to services for

HFS beneficiaries;

c) about federal and state initiatives to provide health care to low-income recipients, and the accountability and reporting

functions associated with these initiatives;

d) about the responsibility and challenges of working in a state agency;

e) about taking responsibility for projects, being responsive to the needs of programmatic initiatives and grant applications;

g) the expectations of being a member in a professional work environment

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Maternal Health intern will report to the Maternal Health Program Manager and will

potentially assist across all programs in BQM. The Maternal Health Program Manager has a background in public health,

specifically family planning, women's health, and preconception/interconception care; program design, implementation and

evaluation; and federal reporting. The intern should have an interest in learning about public health initiatives to improve

women's health and birth outcomes, program evaluation and reporting. Ideally, the intern will have good computer skills,

including proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite products. Additionally, the intern will assist with creating written

assigned projects and tasks, as needed. The intern will serve as a program assistant to BQM management and is responsible

PROGRAM OVERVIEW: A waiver is a program that provides services that allow individuals to remain in their own home or

live in a community setting. Illinois has nine Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers. Each waiver is designed

for individuals with similar needs and offers a different set of services. In order for individuals to be eligible, they must meet

several requirements, including needing the institutional level of care specified for the particular waiver and being able to have

their service needs met cost-effectively (in comparison to the institutional costs). The nine HCBS Waivers are:

Goals and objectives for this internship experience: The goal for this internship is to increase the knowledge and

skills associated with administering a federally-funded grant program called Personal Responsibility Education Program

(PREP), a teen pregnancy prevention program, in the Illinois Department of Human Service. The objectives are to: 1) to

increase knowledge and skills associated with the program and fiscal requirements the grant program, 2) to increase knowledge

and skills regarding the various monitoring activities associated with the oversight of the grant program, 3) to increase

knowledge and skills regarding the training, technical assistance and resources needed to support providers with administering

the grant at the local level, and 4) to increase knowledge and skills associated with internal and external communication

regarding the grant program.

The intern will be assisting the Program Coordinator with several aspects of the grant program:

- Reviewing, tracking and filing reports including budgets, program plans and quarterly reports.

- Generating correspondence to providers regarding late/missing reports.

- Maintaining a tracking system for the submission of PREP annual program plans, budgets and quarterly reports.

- Generating written feedback regarding approval and/or requested revisions and filing all correspondence and reports in the

Electronic Transformation Folder.

- Reviewing quarterly reports, comparing progress against the information submitted in the program plan.

- Maintaining documentation regarding each provider's actual performance v. projected based upon information found in their

program plans.

- Reviewing national and state teen pregnancy prevention resources (websites, publications, reports, etc.) for the purpose of

identifying and incorporating best practices into teen pregnancy prevention program policy and identifying best practices and

evidence-based programs that are appropriate for the grant program.

- Identifying training program content that would be benefit to the funded providers and best the best ways to share the

information (e.g. face-to-face, webinar, conference call, etc.).

- Developing information (e.g fact sheet) and resources to be posted on the IDHS website.

- Updating the PREP resource directory.

- Reviewing monitoring documentation (e.g. quality assurance reviews, observations) and determining the issues by provider

and across the grant program.

- Coordinating PREP meetings conducted face-to-face, webinars using power point presentations, etc.

Experiential learning outcomes for the intern based on the goals and objectives: The intern will gain the

knowledge and experience with managing a federal grant program within the Department.

Goals and objectives for this internship experience: The Policy and Procedures Intern will develop and apply

real-world, practical skills relating to the programmatic implementation of a statewide grant program. The intern will

participate in the program management aspects of the grant: Quality assurance/quality improvement, evaluation, partnerships,

Under direction of the Program and Policy Supervisor, the intern will assist with planning, promoting and evaluating public

health education materials pertinent to Breast and Cervical Cancer screening. This person will work to maintain existing

adaptation in relationship to ACA and draft news releases for Department approval.

Duties to be performed will include:

-Coordinate materials available to the contract agencies to help them promote the Program during National Breast Cancer

Awareness Month, Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, National Minority Health Day and Public Health Week. This includes

preparing the Governor's Proclamation for Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Months.

-Assist in development of educational materials related to the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program for the general

public and medical professionals.

-Under supervision of the Program and Policy Supervisor, coordinate revision of existing Program brochures and pamphlets.

-Utilize internet skills to research breast and cervical cancer related information available from nationally recognized resources.

-Coordinate outreach efforts to increase awareness of breast and cervical cancer screening opportunities. This will include

partnering with national organizations to identify women in hard to reach geographical areas to achieve caseload.

-Perform community outreach at local health fairs and serve as IBCCP representative on local cancer coalition.

-Manage IBCCP databases containing information on Health-line Referrals, Quality Assurance Nurse Coordinators' audit

schedules, and Medical Provider contact information.

-Under the Supervision of the Program and Policy Supervisor, develop agendas, coordinate Lead Agency meetings and/or

Goals and objectives for this internship experience: Increased understanding of the main federal and state

rules/regulations and permit programs under which the Bureau of Water operates; the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant

Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program, the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and Title 35 of the Illinois

Administrative code.

Pursuant to Section 31(a) of the Environmental Protection Act, prepare and take appropriate actions on facilities in regards to

Violation Notices. Assists with the review, monitoring, and preparation of compliance and enforcement actions on Major and

Minor NPDES perittees as assigned. Generate and review ICIS standard reports and ECHO detailed facility reports to be used

for targeting/oversight in order to identify permits with significant noncompliances. Assist staff engaged in activities related to

the enforcement process.

Assist with verification/validation of the databases used for track permit activities and to monitor compliance. Assist with the

development of Standard Reports to be used to query these databases.

Requires ability to establish and maintain sound public contacts and good working relationships with agency officials and

outside organizational representatives.

Experiential learning outcomes for the intern based on the goals and objectives:

-To become more proficient and experienced in the use of various software applications and databases (ex. Word, Excel,

Access, USEPA ICIS and ECHO, ATHENA and VN Tracking).

-Become more knowledgeable of environmental testing and monitoring standards set by the Clean Water Act, the National

Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program, and the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and the

Illinois Pollution Control Board.

-Gain experience working in a professional and highly technical program with higher level specialists.

-Gain a thorough understanding of how the IEPA protects the State's Water Resources through an integrated system of

permitting, inspections and compliance assurance. Become familiar with the various programs and permits, current rules &

regulations, enforcement actions and the national standards under which the program functions.

steps are necessary to protect human health and the environment and identify necessary steps for compliance with the

Goals and objectives for this internship experience: To develop an understanding of the operations of the Office

of Inspector General's Long Term Care Asset Discovery Unit. To learn the OIG's internal CASE as it is related to the

eligibility requirements for long term care applications as well as case tracking.

Experiential learning outcomes for the intern based on the goals and objectives: Intern will develop an

understanding of the OIG's CASE for the Long Term Care Asset Discovery Initiative Unit. Intern will become familiar with

the different resources related to the asset requirements for long term care applications. Intern will realize the multiple tasks

(screening the application for adherence to referral criteria, identifying resources, applying resources, interpreting departmental

policy, researching the policy, submitting correspondences to local administrating offices, as well as the overall tracking of the

application in CASE) involved in the long term application process for those cases meeting certain referral criteria.

Intern will learn all aspects of the operations of the Long Term Care Asset Discovery Initiative Unit. Intern will utilize the

department's mainframe system, the OIG's Case Administration System, EXCEL, WORD and PowerPoint. The intern will

assist analysts with application reviews for the timely processing of long term care applications. The intern will be working

alongside the analyst assigned to the project and/or with the manager of the section.
