Duringthistwo-daytraining,participantswilllearnstrategiesforadvancingandfacilitatingacommunitycoalitiontopreventsubstanceabuse.Participantswilllearncharacteristicsofeffectivecoalitions,strategiesforrecruitingandretainingstakeholders,andstrategiesforenhancingcoalitionorganization/structure(missionandvision,clearrolesandorganizationalstructure,meetingandcommunicationhabits,decision-makingandproblem-solvingprocess,leadership).Additionally,participantswillenhancetheirabilitytofulfilltheirroleasacoalitionfacilitator,includingmeetingcoordinationandfacilitation.

Thisin-depth,two-daytrainingwillprovidetheopportunitytolearnthestepsnecessarytoconductasuccessfulfocusgroup.Attentionwillbeplacedonquestiondevelopment,moderatorskills,andplanningcriticallogisticaldetailsoffocusgroupinterviews.Participantswillalsolearnhowtoanalyzetheresultsoffocusgroupsandputthoseresultsintoaction.

It’snotuncommoninourroleaspreventionspecialiststoexperienceroadblocksandbarrierstoimplementingeffectivepreventionstrategies.Unfortunately,therearerarely“onesizefitsall”solutionstoourproblems.Duringthiswebinaryouwilllearnaproblem-solvingmodelthatyoucanapplytohelpyouovercometheroadblocksandbarriersyouexperience.

Theabilitytoleadgroupsisessentialtoawidevarietyofpositionswithinthepreventionfield.Thistwo-daytrainingbuildsbasicfacilitationskillsofindividualsworkingwithyouthand/oradultgroups.Bytheendofthetraining,participantswillunderstandthestagesofgroupdevelopmentandthemajorissuesassociatedwiththem,aswellashowtoidentifyanduseinterventionsthatwillinfluencegroupbehavior.Thisisaninteractivetrainingthatwillincorporatetheoryintodiscussions,groupinteraction,roleplayingandpractice,andappliedlearning.

Inthisone-daytraining,participantswilllearnhowtoestablishandleadayouthadvisorycommitteetosupportlocalsubstanceabusepreventionefforts.Participantswilllearnbestpracticesforengagingyouthinadvisoryroles;howtoestablishanadvisorycommitteestructure;andstrategiesforrecruitmentandretentionofyouthadvisors.Participantswillalsolearnappropriaterolesforyouthcommitteemembersinsubstanceabusepreventionactivities.

ThisonlinetrainingforCSUPSProvidersrelaystheinformationandtoolsneededtoconductamarijuanaenvironmentalscanwithintheirservicearea.Thescanwillassistprovidersinidentifyinglocalretailersthatsellmarijuanaparaphernalia.Participantswillalsobeprovidedtheinformationandtoolsthatwillallowthemtocreateandimplementaplantoeducatemerchantsthatsellmarijuanaparaphernaliaregardingtheconsequencesofviolatingthelaw,andcommunitybenefitsofnotsellingmarijuanaparaphernalia.CSUPSProvidersshouldcontactPreventionFirstforthelinktothiscourse.

IISAPI:WelcometoPreventionisaself-paced,onlinecoursewhichintroducesparticipantstothepreventionfield.Itprovidesanoverviewoftheneedforpreventionservices,preventionhistory,theevolutionofpreventionscienceandevidence-basedprevention.

Thisone-daytrainingwillbuildparticipants’knowledgeandskillstopromotetheadministrationoftheIllinoisYouthSurvey(IYS)toschoolsintheirservicearea.ParticipantswilllearnstrategiestopromotetheIYStoschoolsandobtainschools’commitmenttoadministerthesurvey,aswellasstrategiesforbuildingrelationshipsandovercomingbarrierstoparticipation.Participantswillalsobecomefamiliarwitharecruitmentplantemplate.

PreventingPrescriptionandOpioidDrugMisuseisanonlinecoursedesignedforsubstanceabusepreventionprofessionalswhowouldlikeabetterunderstandingofprescriptiondrugandopioidmisuse.Duringthecourse,participantswilllearnaboutthemostcommonlyabusedprescriptiondrugs,includingopioids,useratesandtrendsamongU.S.andIllinoisteens,factorsthatcontributetoprescriptiondrugandopioidmisuseandeffectivepreventionstrategiesandapplicableresources.

TheSUPSupervisorTrainingisaseriesofthreeonlinecoursesdesignedformanagerswhosupervisepreventionstaffandprovideprogrammaticoversightoftheIDHSSUPRgrant.Bytakingthecoursesinthisseries,participantswillidentifycriticalskillsofpreventionspecialiststoconsiderinhiringdecisionsandapplyahiringprocess,identifystrategiesforprovidingeffectivesupervisiontostaff,andidentifystrategiesforprovidinginitialandongoingprogramsupporttopreventionstaff.Thethreecoursesintheseriesinclude:

MAKING THE RIGHT HIRING DECISIONDuringthiscourse,participantswillidentifycriticalskillstoconsiderwhenhiringpreventionspecialistsandapplyahiringprocess,includingcreatingajobdescription,recruitingapplicants,interviewingcandidates,andmakingacandidateselection.

DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE SUPERVISORY SKILLSDuringthiscourse,participantswillidentifyqualitiesofeffectivesupervisorsandstrategiesforprovidingeffectivesupervisiontostaff,includingdevelopingaflexiblemanagementstyle,buildingrelationships,challengingstafftogrow,providingongoingengagement,andconductingformalperformanceevaluations.Supervisorswillalsolearnstrategiesforbalancingtheirworkload.

PROVIDING PROGRAM SUPPORT TO YOUR PREVENTION STAFFDuringthiscourse,participantswillidentifystrategiesforsupportingpreventionstaff,includingcommunicatingexpectations,supportingprofessionaldevelopment,supportingprogramplanningandimplementation,andidentifyingavailableresources.

ThistrainingwillpreparefacilitatorstoimplementtheTooGoodforDrugsHighSchoolrevisedprogramsuccessfully.TheTooGoodforDrugsHighSchoolprogrampreparesstudentswiththeskillstheyneedforacademic,social,andlifesuccess.Participantswillreviewtheinteractivegamesandactivitiesthatprovidepracticalguidanceondatingandrelationships,buildinghealthyfriendships,andrefusingnegativepeerinfluence.ThetrainingwillalsoprovideareviewoflessonsfocusedontheeffectsofATODuseaswellasprescriptionandOTCdruguseandvariousnicotinedeliverydevices.Thetrainerwillfamiliarizeparticipantswiththeresearch,theory,andconceptsbehindtheprogramandprovideanopportunityforfacilitationpractice.

ThistrainingwillpreparefacilitatorstoimplementtheTooGoodforDrugs(TGFD)Programsuccessfully.TheTooGoodforDrugsProgramhasseparate,developmentallyappropriatecurriculumforgradesK-12;thefocusofthistrainingisonSUPP-approvedimplementationforgrades6-8.TGFDisaschool-basedpreventionprogramdesignedtoreducetheriskfactorsandenhancetheprotectivefactorsrelatedtoalcohol,tobacco,andotherdruguseamongstudents.Participantswillgainhands-onexperiencewiththecorecurriculumwhileacquiringessentialpreventioneducationteachingstrategies.Thetrainerwillfamiliarizeparticipantswiththeresearch,theory,andconceptsbehindtheprogramandprovideanopportunityforfacilitationpractice.

ATTENDANCE

PreventionFirstreservestherighttomakechangesinthetrainingpersonnel,dateand/orlocationscheduledforanytrainingsession.Beforeregisteringforacourse,reviewallofourtrainingpolicieslocatedonourtrainingpageatwww.prevention.org.

Participantsmustregisterforandreceiveemailconfirmationpriortoattendinganyclassroom-basedtrainingorwebinar.Registrationwillclosetwodayspriortothescheduledtrainingevent.Ifregistrationreachescapacity,newregistrantswillbeplacedonawaitlistandwillbenotifiedifanopeningisavailable.

Inordertocreateanenvironmentconducivetolearningandtominimizedistractions,alltrainingeventswillstartpromptlyatthetimestatedintheeventconfirmation.Toreceiveacertificateofcompletion/CEUsforanytrainingevent(classroom-basedorwebinar),theparticipantmustcompletethecourseinitsentirety. Iftheparticipantcannotcompletethecourseinitsentirety,PreventionFirstreservestherighttodenyentryorreentrytoanyparticipant.Ifany1hourofcontentismissedduringaclassroom-basedtrainingevent,theparticipantwillNOTreceiveacertificateofcompletion/CEUs.Ifmorethan10minutesismissedduringawebinar,theparticipantwillNOTreceiveacertificateofcompletion/CEUs.

Whenattendingawebinartraining,eachparticipantmustusetheirownviewingdevice(computer,mobile,etc.).Screensharingisnotallowed.

Selectthe“Current”buttonandscrolldowntoseewhatupcomingtrainingsyouareregisteredfor.Beoweachtrainingtitleyouwillfindtrainingdatesanda“CancelMyRegistration”button.Selectthis,includetheresonforcancelling,then“CompleteCancellation”button.

Whenyouclickonthe“CompleteCancellation”button,aboxwillpop-upthatsays,“Yourcancellationrequesthasbeensent.”uConnectwillsendyouaconfirmationemailofyourcancellation.
