He’s a big softie despite the whole rock and

roll image...

which will feature on the upcoming EP from Mahalia Barnes and The Soul Mates.

Most fans of Jimmy Barnes know of his rough, pub rocker image but his daughter presents a different side of his personality off-stage.

While she concedes that she and her siblings were aware that they lived an unusual lifestyle, Mahalia said that her upbringing was warm and loving.

“I’m sure we did have a different childhood, but what is a normal childhood? At the end of the day, famous or not, he’s my dad and he’s a fantastic father. He’s a big softie despite the whole rock and roll image, he cries and loves to cuddle his kids,” she said.

Memories of her youth have also inspired

Mahalia to raise her daughter Ruby in a similar way.

“We travelled a lot, which we were very lucky to get to do and we spent a lot of time on the side of stages... my daughter has the same lifestyle now, it’s not necessarily that it’s a wild lifestyle or anything, it’s a musician’s lifestyle,” she said.

T hanks to her famous surname, Mahalia Barnes is used to being in the spotlight but now she’s ready to carve out her own path.

The soulful musician, the daughter of Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes, has been performing for most of her life, teaming together with her siblings to form her fi rst ever band The Tin Lids while she was still a primary school student.

Aside from the normal childhood fantasies of being “an Olympian or a fi reman” when she was six, Mahalia has always wanted to be a musician.

“I don’t even remember a time when I wasn’t going to make music, I’ve just been around it my whole life and I love it, it’s a great way of expressing and relating to people, it’s all I know,” she said.

After honing her skills as a youngster, Mahalia began to perform professionally throughout her late teens and early 20’s but it wasn’t until she auditioned for reality TV show ‘The Voice’ that her music really received widespread public attention.

Although Mahalia’s decision to appear on the program may seem unusual, given her family’s industry contacts and high profi le, the songstress believes it was the perfect boost to her career.

“It can be hard to get people to come out to gigs if they don’t know who you are and don’t know what you do, so I just thought it was a fantastic opportunity to get out there and sing for people... I want people to know what I do and hear me and hopefully if they like it, they might be more inclined to come down and see me a play a show or look into my music,” she said.

“It was a fantastic opportunity, there was a few million viewers, that’s something that doesn’t come along every day.”

Mahalia didn’t end up winning the competition, but it did wonders for her profi le and allowed her to introduce herself to the public and step away from being merely Jimmy Barnes’ daughter.

But while she may have emerged from her father’s shadow, Mahalia is still more than happy to share the stage with her beloved family.

She will perform with her band The Soul Mates alongside her dad at his upcoming ‘Welcome to the Pleasure House’ tour, which will reach Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Thursday, August 22.

“It’s going to be a really fantastic rock and roll show, a great night of music and a lot of love going around because it’s a real family affair... we’ve got my sister Elly May on tour, my brother Jackie’s in the band, I’m going to be opening up and I’m also going to be joining my dad on stage, my husband Ben is the guitarist,” Mahalia said.

With so many strong-willed musicians together on one stage, it’s not hard to imagine family tiffs but Mahalia insists that the clan get along well.

“At the end of the day, his show is his show, he’s very open to our opinions and our ideas and we try a lot of stuff, we’re all very collaborative.

“We’re a very close family... I actually now think that dad organised this whole tour really as a way to get us all together,” she laughed.

Their relationship is so close that the unstoppable father-daughter duo have also worked together on a new song ‘Feels Right’,

T he members of Fall Out Boy may have been born and raised in the United States, but it seems they also love Australia.

The award-winning rockers will be heading down under for the second time this year, after their intimate theatre tour in March.

They will perform alongside special guests British India at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Friday, October 25.

Fall Out Boy, who had great success in their early career, went on a three-year hiatus from 2009 to this year and delighted fans with their fi rst Australian show after the break.

Popular radio station Nova FM praised the band for their energy and musicianship, with a glowing review: “the recently reunited Chicago quartet is as focused as ever when it comes to delivering action-packed sets readymade for impassioned sing-alongs and hectic crowd surges”.

Audiences can expect another brilliant night of music from Fall Out Boy, who will

display all the tight, catchy harmonies, soaring vocals and sharp songwriting skills that they became famed for.

The band, who have left their mark on music and culture since they were formed in 2001, is made up of Patrick Stump on rhythm guitar and vocals, Pete Wentz on bass, Andy Hurley on the drums and Joe Trohman on lead guitar.

The Chicago rockers released four studio albums, toured across the globe, won a handful of awards, made their own comic book and fashion line before announcing an indefi nite hiatus in 2009 to pursue other projects.

Throughout the break, the band veered away from Fall Out Boy and instead spent time engaging in solo projects – Stump released his solo debut, Joe Trohman and Andrew Hurley created a heavy metal super-group The Damned Things and Pete Wentz worked on his electropop project Black Cards, wrote a novel and hosted reality tv show ‘Best Ink’.

In February 2013, the band confi rmed their return to the musical scene and released the track ‘My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)’, which was the fi rst single from Fall Out Boy’s fi fth album ‘Save Rock and Roll’.

Melbourne band British India will join Fall Out Boy on tour, after the success of their

fourth studio album ‘Controller’, which gave them their third consecutive debut in the Top 10 of the ARIA Album Charts.

Renowned for his quick-witted, lively delivery of clever material, Ogata has won the prestigious 32nd Annual San Fransisco International Comedy Competition and has

performed all over the globe.He has also graced the small screen,

appearing on the Showtime presentation of ‘Pacifi c Rim Comedy’ and previously featuring on Comedy Central’s ‘Live at Gotham’, ‘Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen’ as well as the underground hit movie ‘Porndogs’.

He will be joined on the showcase by Bruce Griffi ths, a crowd favourite who is a one liner genius that has received overwhelmingly positive reviews.

On top of his stand up career, Griffi ths has also written for a range of shows including ‘The Glass House’, ‘Good News Week’, ‘Enough Rope with Andrew Denton’ and more.

Popular media personality Dave Jory will also be performing, bringing his wealth of experience in working with other comedians such as Weird Al Yankovic, Arj Barker and Paulie Shore.

The famed funnyman has been on many TV shows such as ‘The NRL Footy Show’, ‘Stand Up Australia’, ‘Joker Poker’, ‘Last Comic

Standing’ and ‘The Mansion’.He is also well-known among radio

listeners from his time as a Triple J regular, working alongside good friend and show host Scott Dooley, creating the drive-time segment ‘I Love This Crowd’, where he performed listener’s jokes in a comedy club.

M ost children love to sing and now they have the chance to hone their skills under professional guidance with Penrith City Children’s Choir.

The choir, which is associated with Penrith City Choir, was started up earlier this year and is open to all children between the ages of seven and 13 with no audition requirements.

Their next upcoming project is called Rhythm of Life, and will involve three workshops with the fi rst one held on Sunday, August 4 at Glenbrook Public School.

For children who are unable to make that workshop, there is also a second part that begins on Sunday, August 18.

Songs that will be included in the project range from spiritual and classical songs to more modern music so attendees are able to explore variety.

Children of all levels of experience are welcome to join in on the fun and will be able to develop their skills and confi dence, according to Penrith City Children’s Choir

administrator Liz Strasser. “This one focuses on learning a wide range

of repertoire with opportunities for solo and small group experience, so it means that it can cater for a whole range of levels of experience for the children,” she said.

Kids will be guided in their singing by director Lucy McAlary, who previously ran Blackheath Conservatoire in England for 15 years and now works as the director and conductor of Penrith City Choir.

“Lucy is so skilled that she structures it in a way that everybody can participate… and also she includes game-like activities so it’s a lot of fun,” Ms Strasser said.

Although children involved in the choir have undoubtedly benefi ted from the improvement to their vocals, Ms Strasser has also received feedback from parents regarding a boost in their child’s confi dence after attending workshops.

“We’ve had very good feedback… comments about children developing their

confi dence, not just in singing but also in performing,” she said.

Penrith City Children’s Choir will begin its next project ‘Rhythm of Life’ on Sunday,

E lvis lovers are some of the most devoted fans in the world and they’re set to prove it when they meet up in the Blue Mountains.

The inaugural Blue Mountains Elvis Festival will unite fans of the hip-swaying musician for a day of celebration on the anniversary of Elvis’ death on Friday, August 17 and Saturday, August 18.

And the best part is that there won’t be just one King of Music, but dozens!

Four of the best Elvis tribute artists in the country, Steve Kelleher, Damian Mullin, Carmine Cimilio and Terry Leonard will join in on two big shows at the Katoomba RSL and honour the music that fans know and love.

Prepare to be shocked by the accuracy of Mullin’s Elvis impression – the performer won the Best Elvis in Australia competition at Surfers Paradise last year and is known as one of the best tribute artists in the nation.

The performance will be a feast for the senses, with costumes that are exact replicas

of the ones that Elvis once wore on stage.The shows will also feature an amazing

live performance from eight piece band The Legends TCB Band and The Memphis Belles Singers.

For anyone who fancies themselves as having a good singing voice, there will be a chance to shine on stage in the ‘Sing Like the King’ karaoke competition in the afternoon on Saturday, August 18.

Contestants will be required to belt out their best cover of an Elvis song, while dressed in a suitable costume for the chance to receive a trophy and $250 for the fi rst prize winner.

The festival’s founder ‘Colonel’ Col Greene said he hopes it is well received by local residents and will become an annual fi xture on the NSW events calendar.

The Inaugural Blue Mountains Elvis Festival will be held on Friday, August 17 and Saturday, August 18 at Katoomba RSL.

C ountry songstress Jasmine Rae recently launched her latest album ‘If I Want To’. We caught up with Jasmine to talk about music, life and her

devoted fans.You came into the spotlight fi ve years

ago when you released your debut album. How much have you changed since then?

I think lots changes over time, you grow as an artist as time goes on and as you experience different things in life and the more shows you do.

I wrote this album around some experiences I was going through at the time but also around the kind of show I wanted to do, so I think it’s changed quite a bit but I’m also being very true to who I am.

What is the best advice that anyone has ever given you?

I think a lot of people say it but it’s really true, just staying true to who you are and being open to learning lessons about the kinds of things you want to do, and the kinds of music

you want to make and what you want to say to your fans and to music fans in general.

A couple of the songs on the album deal with relationships and men. What inspired you to write those and was it based on personal experience?

There were a few observations, wondering why I chose the people I chose to be in relationships with but it’s more just about feeling powerful as an individual in a relationship. So both ‘Bad Boys Get Me Good’ and ‘If I Want To’ come from a place of feeling more in control of what you want out of life and yourself and just celebrating that.

On your latest album, you got the chance to work with some amazing country musicians such as Kellie Pickler and McAlister Kemp. If you could perform with any musician, alive or not, who would it be?

I’m actually quite chuffed that I got to work with Kellie Pickler for this one but a few of the songs have been inspired a little bit by a

Johnny Cash kind of vibe. Once upon a time, I would have loved to work with him so if we’re going to talk about hypotheticals I guess it would be him.

What has been the most challenging time in your career?

When writing this album, my dad was diagnosed with cancer so I was caring for him while I was writing this album and he passed away a year ago. He was one of my biggest

supporters and one of the reasons that kept pushing me to do what I wanted to do and so I thought after he passed away that I wouldn’t be able to write anymore because he’d listened to every song I’d ever written.

It was writing ‘First Song’, a track on this album, that really helped me to discover that writing is therapy for me and it’s something my dad would have wanted me to do because I love it.

W ith a talented, ensemble cast, this French-American fi lm is an entertaining and unique thriller that will have

audiences glued to their seats with suspense.

The movie begins with four magicians who are mysteriously united by an unknown man and end up performing as a group in Las Vegas under the name of ‘The Four Horsemen’.

The fi nale of each act involves inviting an audience member up to assist them for their next magic trick of robbing a bank. The magicians explain it by saying that they have teleported the man to a bank and used an airduct to transport the money and release it over the crowd.

An FBI and Interpol agent are coupled together to investigate the robbery but after intense interrogation of the Four Horsemen, they are unable to fi nd any other explanation for the act beyond it actually being magic.

They are still suspicious and enlist a respected former magician to unravel the mystery and fi nd justice.

T his offbeat thriller is set in the not-too-distant future, in a dystopian world where celebrities are worshipped to the extent that

fans pay top dollar for viruses that their favourite celeb has been infected with.

The movie focuses on Syd March, an employee at the Lucas Clinic where they purchase celebrity’s viruses and pathogens to inject them into fans longing to have a connection with the object of their admiration.

Unbeknownst to his colleagues, Syd also makes extra money by stealing pathogens from his workplace and selling them on the black market, using his own body as an incubator for the viruses and tweaking the formula to remove ‘copy protection’.

Although Syd seems to be sitting pretty and making a good living for himself, things turn sour after his friend Derek is arrested for smuggling viruses. Syd takes on Derek’s job and harvests a virus from superstar Hannah Geist but decides to inject himself with her blood and ends up severely ill. When she dies, he suddenly faces the same fate.

While most gamers are used to playing the Sims in a modern environ with nice big houses and technology, ‘Dragon Valley’ takes them to an old school village fi lled with beautiful views.

This mythical town is inhabited by amazing elven Sims who spend their time living out deeply rooted, historical traditions. Even more fantastically, the village is also occupied by baby dragons who co-exist among the human inhabitants and are even kept as pets.

This game gives players the chance to meet new Sims, explore an exotic new location and even raise their own baby dragons.

But although there are many great perks to living in Dragon Valley, things are not as sunny as they seem and an argument is brewing that threatens to divide the townsfolk.

T he Blue Mountains-born indie rockers are back with their sophomore album after the raging success of their debut

‘Bliss Release’. Their latest effort, ‘Dream Cave’

builds on their catalogue of music and retains all the great songwriting they have become known for while also pushing the musical boundaries.

Their songwriting efforts were inspired by periods of isolation and exposure to a wide range of musical genres, resulting in an experimental vibe that could be likened to that on ‘Check Your Head’ by the Beastie Boys or a Led Zeppelin record.

The album’s title song ‘Dream Cave’ was unusually inspired after singer and guitarist Alister Wright imagined what music legend Roy Orbison would sing if he was stuck in a cave for a long period of time. The acoustics of the album were also fi ne-tuned after much deliberation and recording in a wide variety of places searching for the perfect vocals.

Much of the album was developed over the two months that Cloud Control

spent in Kent with talented producer Barny Barnicott, who has previously worked with acts such as Kasabian, Placebo and the Arctic Monkeys.

The lead single ‘Dojo Rising’, has already been released to very positive fan reaction, with its darker themes and electronic infl uence signaling the direction ‘Dream Cave’ will be going in.

B ack in the 1980’s Colin and Malcolm Campbell of Campbells Rutherglen Wines decided to move their Durif away from the big, jammy, full-bodied

taste and loads of tannin of Australian Durifs, and to give them a more refi ned structure and balance.

“Durifs in those days were so big, some used to joke that you really needed a knife and fork to drink them,” Colin says now.

“We wanted a more refi ned expression of the grape, and so started in the vineyard in the late 1980’s… Malcolm encouraging the fruit to grow more slowly, and to fully ripen before picking for greater refi nement.”

Then in the winery Colin further “tamed” that resultant fruit by building layers of complexity and length, something he calls “thorough breeding”, and then completed the process with an extended barrel maturation using a mix of three-year-old French and American oak.

The fi rst “new look” Campbell Durif was

labelled The Barkly and released from the 1992 vintage; now the 2010 vintage has just been released. This one’s all about abundant and powerful dark cherry and blackberry fruit fl avours, with added earthy and ironstone characters and good oak.

At $54 it’s one to truly savour with a baked loin of venison, or slow cooked lamb or beef.

One to note: Peter Logan can be justifi ably proud of the 2012 Chardonnay he’s released under his Logan label, and which he believes is “the most complete Chardonnay we’ve made in years… a wine with a long, fresh palate, delicate texture and a mix of savoury and fruit fl avours”.

The Orange region of NSW’s Central West where this one hails from is gaining a well-deserved reputation for Chardonnays generally, the cool climate in the 600 metre high ranges here really suiting the variety. This Logan is a beautifully rewarding example.

At $25 it goes wonderfully with a Sunday chicken roast, or try it with crab cakes.

I n a year that we’ve had absolutely no dancing shows (can you believe it?!), comes the news that an old favourite is returning to our screens next year. I’m

not talking about ‘Dancing with the Stars’, I’m talking about the other one, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. After years collecting dust on the Channel 10 shelf, the network has confi rmed the once hit series, which ran for three seasons, will return in early 2014. There will be a complete new line-up of judges as well as a new host. Auditions will commence in September.

If you’re not over the Election coverage yet, you soon will be after Channel 7 and Channel

9 introduced another news bulletin to air at 7pm on 7TWO and Gem, respectively. It’s not known whether the bulletins will continue after September 7.

Huge news for fans of ‘Doctor Who’ this week with the announcement that Peter Capaldi has been revealed as the 12th Doctor. The 55-year-old was named in a live BBC TV Special in the UK earlier this week. ‘Doctor Who’ is currently celebrating its 50th year on television.

This show seems to be going from strength to strength and I still haven’t seen it! Showcase are set to air the fi nal eight episodes of ‘Breaking Bad’ within fi ve hours of its US broadcast, starting this Monday, August 12 at 6.30pm. Meanwhile, SBS2 will screen ‘Talking Bad’, a weekly panel discussion on the fi nal episodes hosted by comedian Chris Hardwick from 11.20pm on Monday, August 12.

The Comedy Channel will air the rebooted comedy ‘Arrested Development’ next month. Before the new series airs at 9pm Tuesday, September 3, the Comedy Channel will screen a marathon of the previous three seasons from Saturday, August 31 at 6pm to Sunday, September 1 at 6pm. Season four sees the entire all-star ‘Arrested Development’ cast return to play the dysfunctional Bluth family – a wealthy family that lost everything.

The Oscars may still be six months away but it’s been revealed that everyone’s favourite talk show host Ellen DeGeneres will host the

86th Academy Awards next year. Ellen cleverly tweeted: “It’s offi cial: I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra”. Ellen has in-fact hosted the Oscars before back in 2007.

New Channel 10 series ‘Under The Dome’ has been rating well over the past few weeks, and the good news for fans is, it will be back for another season. The Stephen King sci-fi

series will return for another 13 episodes in 2014 so it is guaranteed the drama will continue!

Lastly, in some surprising news, Keith Urban is returning to ‘American Idol’ next year – he’s the only host to survive this year’s series. There’s also speculation that Jennifer Lopez will return to ‘Idol’ and join Keith on the panel next year. Will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson are also rumoured to be in the mix.

A merica’s then-wealthiest man, William Waldorf Astor had England’s high society in an absolute tizz back in 1893 when he had the audacity to

buy his way into their ranks by paying US$1.25 million for the Duke of Westminster’s grand Cliveden House on the River Thames in Buckinghamshire.

And even Queen Victoria announced she “was astonished” when Astor then went on to snap-up Hever Castle in Kent a little way away from his Cliveden digs.

But what really had society’s madams rushing for their smelling salts was Astor’s successful application to become a British citizen, being made a Baron in 1916, and then anointed with the grander moniker Viscount Astor a year later.

Such astonishment, however, was nothing compared with what was to eventuate at Cliveden House years later in 1961, when a society weekend there would erupt into one of Britain's greatest sex scandals, the exposé of a Russian spy, a society suicide, the downfall of one of the country's most senior Cabinet Ministers – and ultimately the fall of the government itself.

Cliveden House has seldom been out of

the public eye since the fi rst “house” was built on its 150ha (375 acres) at Taplow in 1666 by the second Duke of Buckingham, ostensibly as a hunting lodge for he and his pals, but in truth a bolt-hole for escapes with his mistress.

That fi rst house burned down in 1795, its replacement fell to a similar fate in 1849, and today’s Cliveden House of much more extraordinarily grandiose proportions was built in 1852.

William Waldorf Astor was a successful New York attorney who’d inherited huge family wealth, investing some of this into a hotel he called The Waldorf, and which he merged with The Astoria Hotel next door – built by a cousin – to become The Waldorf Astoria.

After a bitter family dispute, Astor moved with his wife Mary and family to England, buying and living in Cliveden House until Mary’s premature death in 1906; devastated, Astor gave Cliveden to his son Waldorf as a wedding present, and moved into Hever Castle.

But he continued the work that he and Mary had begun on behalf of charities ranging from cancer research to children’s welfare, the Red Cross, war-widow's families, and a dozen others, and it was for this that he was made

a Baron in 1916 and Viscount Astor the next year.

The young Waldorf and wife Nancy, meanwhile, lost no time in jumping on the society roundabout, inviting politicians, writers, fi lm stars and other celebrities to join them for weekends at Cliveden House, including Winston Churchill, Harold Macmillan, Mahatma Gandhi, F.D. Roosevelt, Joseph Kennedy, T.E. Lawrence, Charlie Chaplin, Rudyard Kipling and aviatrix Amy Johnson.

Like his parents Waldorf Astor gave generously, including building a temporary military hospital in Cliveden’s grounds in WWI and another during WWII.

And in 1942 they donated Cliveden House to the British National Trust with the proviso they could live there as long as they wished… giving the Trust 250,000 English pounds (around AU$16 million today) for its perpetual upkeep.

Then, for a summer’s weekend party in July 1961 they included amongst other famous invited guests, Britain’s then Minister of War, John Profumo and his glamorous actress wife Valerie Hobson, Lord Mountbatten of Burma, and the President of Pakistan.

Also invited to stay in the property’s

separate Spring Cottage was London society osteopath, Stephen Ward who took several chums along including fun-loving girlfriend, 19-year-old Christine Keeler and a Russian Naval Attache, Captain Yevgeny Ivanov.

On the fi rst evening, Minister Profumo bumped into Christine Keeler at the House pool – within days they were lovers.

Profumo realising the danger soon broke it off but the Opposition learned of it, asked a question of the relationship in Parliament, which Minister Profumo denied, and to his horror the spurned Keeler then sold her story to a London newspaper.

Even worse she said she’d been sleeping at the same time as Profumo with the Russian Attache Ivanov – whom MI5 revealed was a Soviet spy.

Profumo confessed he had lied to the House of Commons and resigned.

And when the osteopath Stephen Ward was charged with living off girlfriend Keeler’s immoral earnings, Ward committed suicide.

A fter 20 years, the Triple J Hottest 100 annual countdown has become an Australian icon and now a special CD has been released to celebrate the best songs of the past two

decades.Earlier in the year, Triple J held a poll for listeners

to judge their favourite songs from the past 20 years with the result being a 39-track double CD package crammed with great, eclectic tunes.

The compilation of the album is an example of music democracy, with more than 940,000 votes cast over a period of 20 days.

Interestingly, the most votes were submitted by any age group were those of 25-year-olds – meaning that they were considering songs that covered almost all of their lifetime.

The winning songs seem to refl ect what kind of music Triple J listeners love and grew up with, making ‘Triple J’s 20 Years of Hottest 100’ the soundtrack to young Australians’ lives.

Pole position was taken out by the 1995 Oasis hit ‘Wonderwall’, which also topped Triple J’s Hottest 100 back in 1996 and remains the band’s most beloved song.

The track listing also reveals a range of music, from songs that have become instantly classic to sleeper hits that became cult favourites and more recent tunes that blazed up the charts to defi ne a generation.

Of all the songs that made the Hottest 100, the earliest was Nirvana’s ‘Heart Shaped Box’ and the most recent was Of Monsters and Men’s 2012 hit ‘Little Talks’.

The 39 tracks chosen for the CD are similarly varied, featuring Muse’s ‘Knights of Cydonia’ and Lana Del Rey’s ‘Video Games’ as well as The Cranberries’ hit ‘Zombie’, ‘Tomorrow’ by Silverchair and Spiderbait’s ‘Buy Me A Pony’.

Other bands that make an appearance on this special collection include The Killers with ‘Mr Brightside’, Hilltop Hoods with ‘The Nosebleed Section’, Mumford and Sons, Gotye, The Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ and The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’.

While the tracks span two decades and many different genres, they all have one thing in common – they are beloved classics that will be remembered for years to come.

P enrith Paceway is always the scene of much excitement on a Thursday night, but last week, on August 1, you might as well have been visiting Vegas.

In conjunction with the United Way Penrith Community Fund, Penrith Paceway hosted a very special Casino and Harness Racing evening, bringing out the James Bonds, poker faces and martinis in spectacular fashion.

The casino and harness racing night was held to raise funds for the United Way Penrith Community Fund’s Winter Appeal, which looks to support those less fortunate in the community who may be struggling with the pressures of fi nding suitable accommodation and food during the chill of winter.

Guests on the night enjoyed the lavish hospitality of the Paceway, including a smorgasbord for dinner as well as beer, wine and soft drinks.

All this while spending chips at the many gaming tables set up to replicate a little slice of Vegas.

And there was the ever spectacular harness racing which produced some very happy winners on the evening.
