Bogsnorkelling Championships We are considering providing a stall at the Bogsnorkelling for local arts and crafts people, and also the town businesses, on 25th August, Bank Holiday Sunday, and would like to hear from any
local people who would be interested in coming along to display and sell their items or publicise their shops and services.
This would give the visitors something else of interest and help to showcase what Llanwrtyd has to offer.

DOLWEN FIELD RECREATION FOR ALL
Fundraising for the project continues in earnest. The committee would like
to thank everyone who joined in with the very successful Easter Egg Hunt
in April. The Heritage Centre, who organised the quiz, kindly donated the
proceeds to the project, for which we are extremely grateful. Over £100
was raised on the day.
The final collection for the pop-up shop will be held on Saturday 15th June,
11 am – 12 noon at the top gate of the Dolwen Field.
If you need assistance in transporting your donations or would be able to
help out in the shop in July, please contact the Chairman, Dave Barlow, on

Llanwrtyd Wells & District Twinning Association
Arrangements for our visit to Český Krumlov in September have now reached the final stages with everything booked including coach travel from Prague airport to Český Krumlov and car-sharing arrangements from Llanwrtyd to Birmingham. Twenty-four of us are going and the programme of events will be sent out soon.
We'll be there for the huge Wenceslas celebrations and Folklore Festival, which is very exciting as there will be so much to do and see. As we're staying in hotels in the central square, we won't have very far to go to join in the fun!
A team of runners from Meriel are coming over for the Man v Horse challenge on Saturday 8th June. Travelling by minibus, the group are due to arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday. They will be staying at the Cammarch Arms hotel in Llangammarch Wells and the Twinning Association plan to send a welcome party to meet and greet them on arrival. There's a pre-race Pasta Party for all competitors on the Friday evening which we anticipate our Meriel friends will be attending.
The next Business Meeting is on Thursday 4th July at 8pm in the Institute, everybody welcome!
For more information about the Twinning Association, contact the Secretary, Liz: [email protected] or Chairman, Bryn, on 01591 610633.

Ysgol Dôlafon Newsletter
Ysgol Dôlafon was awarded a Nature Grant from the Postcode Lottery. We have bought bird boxes, feeders, bird box camera, birdbath, bird food, etc. These have been put up in the school garden. We do have a pied flycatcher nesting in one of the boxes unfortunately not the one with the camera! In future, we hope to share camera footage with you all via our new website which is currently being developed.
Members of our Choir took part in the St David’s Day celebrations in the Heritage Centre on the 1st March and Mother’s day pictures drawn by pupils were printed in the County Times newspaper.
Sophie Pickup’s design has been chosen by Rev. Petra Beresford-Webb for the new Altar Cloth in St David’s Church.
Cath Williams (Foundation Phase teacher) accompanied four pupils to an Eco-Day in Talgarth. The Eco-School Council welcomed our Mayor Lynda Avery and Town Clerk Lynne Ball to discuss plans for the Dôlwen Field Project and the possibility of setting up a Youth Council. They both joined the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors, to listen to the Eco-School Council’s presentation on the environmental impact of ‘hand dryers v paper towels’.
To raise awareness of Fairtrade representatives from the Co-Op spent an afternoon in the school working with all pupils. They shared information on Fairtrade chocolate and bananas. The taster sessions were enjoyed by all! We held a Fairtrade Assembly for pupils and members of the community, this was followed by a Fairtrade Breakfast, we served Fairtrade tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, cereal and Fairtrade jam or marmalade on toast or bagels. We raised £70 for the Fairtrade Foundation.
Pupils dressed up as a character from their favourite book for World Book Day. The winners were presented with books. We also took part in a Powys Library Service competition. Sophie Pickup won the Powys KS2 competition by designing and developing a new character for her favourite book. She was presented with a Michael Murpugo book by Librarian Lesley Fisher at Llanwrtyd Library.
Our hockey team took part in a 7-a-side hockey competition in Llandrindod. Jan Campbell and Angie Amor accompanied them. They got through to the final but lost in extra time. Eight pupils took part in a Cross Country competition in Llanelwedd. Kate Knight and Angie Amor accompanied them. Pupils in Years 5 & 6 have had cycle training. Jenny and Liz have been leading dance sessions with all pupils. Thank you. Our Tag Rugby tournament was attended by four other schools from our Cluster. The overall winners were Irfon Valley. Well done to all pupils that played and a big thank you to their teachers for bringing them. Thanks also to the Old Forge Mewla Rally for sponsoring the event, to Kate Jones and Cari for presenting the medals/trophies and to our officials and referees.
