#WEAREFGCUWhen referring to the University, please be aware of the following policy regarding usage. First refer-ences to the school and its intercollegiate athlet-ic programs should always be FGCU or Florida Gulf Coast University. The only secondary references should be “FGCU,” “Florida Gulf Coast” or “Eagles.” Please refrain from using “Fla. Gulf Coast,” “Gulf Coast,” “Florida GC” or any other similar combination.

Furthermore, against non-conference op-ponents during the regular season, FGCU is 22-2 versus such foes at The Nest since

2011-12. The Green and Blue went 5-0 in 2011-12, 7-0 in 2012-13, 6-1 in 2013-14 and is 4-1 so far this season. The loss to Iona snapped a 15-game winning streak at Alico against non-conference opponents. 22-2

FGCU is 34-4 at Alico Arena since the start of the 2012-13 sea-son. The four losses have come to Lipscomb, Iona, Mercer and FIU, snapping – respectively – a four-game home-court winning streak, a nine-game run, another nine-game streak and a 12-game stretch. FGCU is 4-1 this year and went 15-2 last year and 15-1 in 2012-13. 34- 4

overallDespite only becoming Division-I postseason eligible in the 2011-12 season, FGCU has already claimed an impressive nine wins in the postseason.

NCAA 2-1 A-SUN 7-2FGCU won the program’s first A-Sun regular-season champi-onship in 2014 courtesy of a 14-4 league mark. The Eagles received a No. 8 seed in the NIT and traveled to No. 1 Florida State, falling just short (58-53) to the eventual NIT semifinalists.

FGCU became the first school in NCAA history to reach the Sweet Sixteen as a No. 15 seed in 2013 when the Eagles de-feated No. 2 George-town and No. 7 San Diego State en route to captivating the na-tion and earning the #DunkCity moniker. The Green and Blue lost to No. 3 Florida in the next round.

FGCU is the only school in Division-I history to reach the championship game of its confer-ence tournament in each of its first three seasons of el-igibility. The Eagles went 2-1 in 2012 (lost to Belmont), 3-0 in 2013 (de-feated Mercer) and 2-1 in 2014 (lost to Mercer).

FGCU has already defeated four 20-win teams from a sea-son ago (UC Santa Barbara, Ohio, San Francisco, Massachu-setts) and another (South Dakota State) which won 19 con-tests. The Eagles have played two teams in the top-55 of the current RPI (Green Bay (14) and UMass (53)), and will start a stretch of three in a row on the road against Iona (70), Xavi-er (48) and Pittsburgh (103) following tonight’s game. In to-tal, FGCU will play eight non-conference games against teams currently ranked in the top-115 of the RPI (FIU (93) and twice versus UC Santa Barbara (112)). FGCU is the highest-ranked Atlantic Sun Conference team in the RPI, with the next-closest being North Florida (151).

DUNK CITY AFTER DARK

For the second-consecutive year FGCU was selected by ESPN for in-clusion in the worldwide leader’s Midnight Madness coverage when the Eagles hosted Dunk City After Dark on Oct. 17. With that honor, FGCU joined only four other ex-tremely tradition-rich programs which can boast that claim: Kan-sas, Kentucky, Syracuse and UConn.

67.5 PPG In Non-Conference Contests

FGCU was better in every key statistical category at home than on the road last year with the exception of free-throw shooting. The Eagles connected at a 69.4-percent clip (204-294) in their 16 road games and 65 percent (243-374) at home.

TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN

FGCU led the Atlantic Sun Conference in defense last year, allowing opponents to score just 66.8 points per game.

FGCU is the only school in the Atlantic Sun Conference which has won an A-Sun Men’s Basketball Champion-ship. Conference re-alignment has drastically altered the landscape of collegiate athletics, and the A-Sun is no dif-ferent. The Eagles joined the league in 2007-08 with USC Upstate, and prior to that North Florida and Kennesaw State both joined for the 2005-06 season. Lipscomb has been a member since 2003-04, Jacksonville since 1998-99 and Stetson since 1986-87. Northern Kentucky is in its third year in the A-Sun after joining in 2012-13 and has two years (including this season) of its NCAA-mandated Division-I reclassification period remaining.

The Atlantic Sun Conference has been the talk of the college basketball world the last two postseasons as FGCU and Mercer (now a Southern Conference member) have both been responsible for three major upsets in the NCAA Tour-nament, affectionately turning the A-Sun into the A-Stun.

POINTS IN THE PAINTDating back to the 2011-12 season, FGCU has won 26 consecutive games when out-scoring its opponents in the paint by at least 15 points. Fueled by their high-flying Dunk City attack, the Eagles were 12-0 when holding at least a +15 margin in the paint in 2012-13, 11-0 in 2013-14 and 1-0 to start this year. FGCU won two such games in 2011-12, with the last loss coming on Nov. 25, 2011, at Maryland (73-67) de-spite the Eagles out-scoring the then-ACC member in the paint by 16 points, 42-26.

26-0FGCU’s 14-4 Atlantic Sun Conference mark last year set the program re-cord for most league wins in a season. The Eagles went 13-5 in 2012-13, and prior to that FGCU’s best A-Sun record was 8-10 in the 2011-12 season.

4,340FGCU led the A-Sun in home atten-dance at more than 4,300 per game last year – 40 per-cent more than the next closest team (ETSU, 2,550).

14-4

>40%

>41% 4,432In its nine A-Sun games, FGCU av-eraged more than 4,400 fans per game – 41 percent more than the 2,629 Mercer averaged.

73,780 In just 17 home games last year, FGCU surpassed its entire home atten-dance for the previous two years COM-BINED (36,648 in 2012-13 and 24,845 in 2011-12). Fans filled Alico Arena to a 94-percent capacity for the season.

61,493>FGCU posted six standing-room-only sellouts (4,633) last year, including a re-cord 4,702 fans for the Atlantic Sun Con-ference Final against Mercer. ’13-’14 BY THE NUMBERS

FGCU was the only team in the nation which had three different players

score at least 30 points in a game.3

1 FGCU was 11-2 when committing fewer turnovers

than its opponents.11

1 When leading at the half FGCU was 17-0 (now 28-1 since 2012-13) and

when scoring 70+ points were 17-3.17

In the last 5 minutes of games, Ber-nard Thompson led FGCU in scoring

with 80 points, while Brett Comer was second with 73. No other player had

even 60 points in the final 5 minutes.

The Eagles were 13-1 when hold-ing their opponents below 40

percent from the field.

18 FGCU was 18-2 when out-re-bounding its opponents.

1The loss to Florida State in the

NIT marked the first time FGCU held an opponent below 60

points and lost since the 2011-12 season at Nebraska (58-53).

retweets1) FGCU has five opponents this year which are ranked or receiving votes in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.2) The 43 and 47 points FGCU held Marist and San Fran-cisco to earlier this year, respectively, were the second and third fewest in non-conference D-I program history.3) Thompson has been named to the Lou Henson Player of the Year Watch List, awarded annually to the nation’s top mid-major player.4) FGCU’s shooting percentage of 27.3 from the field against Green Bay was the worst since a 25.4-percent outing at Arkansas on Nov. 22, 2010.5) ESPN has named Thompson as the nation’s No. 8 best returning dunker in college basketball.
