Just a week ago the ANC leadership and its 85000 members marched to the Union buildings to promote a non-racial society. But on Monday two racial incidents, one at Pretoria University and another at the University Of Free State (UFS) reared their ugly heads. When is this madness going to stop? On a more sadder note, residents of Mabopane Ward 12 have lost their hard working Councillor Mama Lucy Majeng, who passed away on the 19 February after a long illness. We hope most job seekers use their social network pages for networking and not for showing naked pictures and bottles of cheap whiskeys, because your future employer might just check your profile before calling you for an interview.

Hope you enjoy the read.

South Africans urged to confront racism

Staff Reporter

Government has urged all South Africans to confront racism from all fronts for the sake of nation building and social cohesion. Chairing a media briefing of the Social Protection, Community and Human Development Cluster at the Imbizo Centre in Parliament on Tuesday, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini said the call follows concerns over a spike in racial incidents since the beginning of the year.“This calls for national dialogues and community conversations to discuss as South Africans the importance of building a united nation, social cohesion and the eradication of racism.“The cluster echoes what the President said during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) and urges all South Africans to confront the demon of racism and devote our time to an anti-racism campaign in which organisations and our people across the board join in a coordinated national effort and pledge to fight racism at all levels,” she said. She said as per President Jacob Zuma's announcement, this year's Human Rights Day on 21 March will be commemorated as the 'National Day against Racism' and laying the foundation for a long-term programme of building a non-racial society.

WARD 12 COUNCILLOR PASSES ON

Staff Reporter

Cllr Lucy Pearl Majeng, Ward Councillor of Ward 12

(Mabopane) passed away on Friday, 19 February 2016, at Akasia Hospital after a long illness. Her passing has robbed the community of Mabopane of a hard working and dedicated public servant. She was born on 28 March 1950 at Kuruman-Manyeding in the Northern Cape and moved to Mabopane where she participated in various community structures. She was elected as a Ward Councillor in 2006. Between 2006 and 2011 she was the convener of the Parliamentary Constituency Office in Mabopane. Owing to her dedication in serving the people of Ward 12, she was re-elected in 2011 to serve a second term and appointed as one of the Whips in the ANC Caucus. The late Cllr Majeng will be accorded a full civic funeral on Saturday, 27 February 2016, at the Mabopane Indoor Sports Centre. “We have lost a mother and a friend, she will be sorely missed, Said Miss Kuna a resident of ward 12.”

Man in court for allegedly faking President assassination plot

The man accused of claiming there was a plot to assassinate President Jacob Zuma and sending threatening smses to high profile government officials has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court. Ernest Nkosi, 26, was on Monday referred to a psychiatrist at Weskoppies Hospital, in Pretoria. According to Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi, Nkosi allegedly sent emails to the spokesperson of the Minister of Police, the spokesperson of the Gauteng Provincial Government, the Crime Intelligence Divisional Commissioner, as well as car dealership BMW South Africa, claiming that there was a plot to assassinate President Zuma. In his emails, he allegedly claimed that there was a seat in a vehicle that was poisoned and the poison was meant for the President. “He further claimed that members of the SAPS VIP Protection Unit, members of the Hawks, as well as a certain minister and parliamentarians were involved in the plot to kill President Zuma. “As if that was not enough, the man continued to send threatening smses to prominent individuals, including high profile officials in various departments, with the latest victim being the Chief of Defence Intelligence,” said Mulaudzi. He said the Hawks took the threats seriously and an investigation was launched. Nkosi was arrested inside a library in Sharpeville, on Monday, and appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate's Court. He was charged with contravening the Intelligence Services Act, as well as impersonating a State Security Agency (SSA) official, because he referred to himself as an SSA undercover agent. The man was also charged for fraud because he was allegedly using a cell phone number that was registered for RICA (Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act) under another person's name. Nkosi will appear in court again on 7 March 2016. – SAnews.gov.za

City of Tshwaneto replace White Connector cards

Staff Reporter

The City of Tshwane will be replacing 34 361 White Connector travel cards with the new Europay MasterCard Visa (EMV) card from 1 March 2016. The move to the new and improved fare system comes with many benefits. Previously, commuters were able to load travel points at the seven A Re Yeng stations and the Sammy Marks Customer Care Centre only. But with the new Connector card, commuters will be able to load travel points at any cash-accepting Absa ATM. Commuters will also be able to use the new Connector card as a debit card (e-money) to make low-value purchases (maximum R200 per transaction) at retail outlets. The EMV card can store both travel points and e-money. A Re Yeng commuters will be able to use their e-money on the new Connector card to travel on Rea Vaya and MyCiTi. The three BRT systems use the same technology, enabling any commuter to travel on any of the three systems. As from 1 March 2016, commuters have 30 days to switch from their current cards to the EMV card. When you exchange any White Connector card for the new EMV Connector card, you will receive the new EMV Connector card preloaded with eight travel points for free. Commuters are advised to use up all their travelling points before the switch, since they will not be able to transfer travel points from the White Connector card to the new EMV Connector card.

CAREERSHow to take a profile picture that

boosts your job opportunities

Dynamic EntrepreneursFrom Dirt Poor to Self-Made Millionaire: Lebo Gunguluza

Dirt poor as a child, Lebo Gunguluza, entrepreneur, motivational speaker and all-round mover and shaker, became one of South Africa's youngest self-made black millionaires at 27. R60 and a whole lot of nerve. That's what Lebo Gunguluza had on him when he arrived in Durban in 1990, determined to enrol for a BCom at the University of Natal. His father died when he was a child and his mother worked as a nurse. There was not much money to go round and what she had managed to save for his tertiary education went on getting him, his brother and his sister through high school in the turbulent late 80s. Gunguluza says his dream to study business was enabled by his appetite for risk. He had no money and no place to stay, but he also had nothing to lose. “Whatever you do, the higher the risk, the higher the reward. I had been accepted at the university, but I could not pay the fees so I was not allowed to register. But it didn't matter – all I knew was that I had to get in so that I could do a business degree and become an entrepreneur.” That level of resolve so early on in life, coupled with his understanding of how important a solid education can be, were to stand him in good stead later on at pivotal moments in his work life. It also highlighted how determined he was to lay a solid foundation for the development of his career. Gunguluza knows what he's talking about when it comes to squandering. He spent that first million in one year. Instead of using that money as seed capital, he bought a GTI and partied like there was no tomorrow. By the end of 1999, he was flat broke. His car was repossessed and he was blacklisted. “I hit rock bottom for a few reasons. Aside from the flashy lifestyle, I realised then that you have to choose your market sector carefully. Entertainment is a

From profile pictures that look like bad celebrity mugshots, to ones that are too raunchy, recruiters have seen it all. Studies have proven that more employers are admitting to checking a candidate's social media pages before inviting them for an interview, and rejecting a candidate based on what they see online. This begs the question: Is your profile picture hurting your chances of landing a job before you're even invited for an interview?

What story is your profile picture telling? As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so have a look at yours and see what story it is telling. As human beings we're visual by nature, and your profile picture is the first visual impression potential employers and headhunters get of you. You want to have a profile picture that conveys a message of being a professional individual who takes their career very seriously. The level of professionalism you show as well as how accessible you appear will determine your potential of being landing an interview.

The case of the selfieSelfies are receiving more and more of a bad rap these days, and it seems employers are also against the selfie; that's at least when they can see that you've taken the picture yourself. As such, there are two major giveaways you want to avoid at all costs:Ÿ The selfie stick, including the extended armŸ Facial distortion, such as an enlarged nose or forehead

Unless you've mastered the technique of taking a professional picture, don't count on yourself. Employers want to see a relaxed, smiling you, and

the beauty with digital camera phones is that you can don't have to pay anyone to get a professional picture. Simply scout for a photography partner and get them to take as many pictures as you need.

Taking a professional profile pictureTo get you going we've included some tips from Cape Town-based Commercial Stills Photographer, Michael Edwards. He gave advice on how to take great head and shoulder pictures for your professional profile:

Ÿ Look presentable. Good make-up, a fresh hairstyle and wearing clothes appropriate to the job you're after can do wonders for you.Ÿ The correct lighting is very important. Make sure that when you take the picture there is soft lighting. Hard, direct flash lighting can be brash and unflatteringŸ Choose solid colours. Stay away from patterns as they can be distracting. Yellow and red tend to cast an unflattering light on your face. Don't wear white if you're light-skinned.Ÿ Have your picture taken where you're most comfortable. You can take it at home, in the office or the outdoors, and keep things simple.Ÿ Take pictures of you standing and sitting. You can always crop full body images, so it's a good idea to take both just in case you need them.Ÿ To look confident and assured, lean towards the camera.Ÿ Smile!

fickle industry and promoters can be unscrupulous. Often we would not get paid on time. I made up my mind that whatever I went into next, it would be in a space that pays well and has structure. “At that time I was sharing a townhouse with my cousin, and I was so down and out that I would walk to the CNA and stand in a corner reading business books that I could not afford to buy. Often the staff would come and chase me away so I'd go home, change my clothes and come back. I read about Aristotle Onassis, Richard Branson and Donald Trump and realised that if I wanted to succeed, I would have to change my mindset. These people had huge personalities which impacted their business lives.”

Movie: Cast: Robert De Niro, Zac EfronDirector: Dan Mazer

Khanyi Mbau playing a very Khanyi Mbau archetype as trophy wife Zaza. Zaza loves everything that shines, call her the Queen of Bling if you may. Delivering shallow remarks such as "Well, shopping relaxes me", it's evident that Mbau didn't have to delve very deep to find the woman she portrays on the big screen. Bored with her lonely life Zaza, a mother of two, has an illicit love affair with a married man (Daniel Hadebe), while her inattentive husband (Simo Magwaza) is away on business, because according to Zaza's wisdom having an affair with another married person doesn't really count as cheating. Mbau is clearly not afraid to take the Mickey out of her tabloid persona. As a result, she surprisingly brings some comic relief to the dramedy. Then there is art gallery owner and serial dater Princess (Renate Stuurman) who falls head-over-heels in love with smooth-talking afrocentric artist (Richard Lukunku), the kind of guy your mama warned you about, to a dramatic outcome. Perhaps Stuurman was terribly miscast in the role or she was not given much to work with, whatever the reason might be Princess' story never really takes off and makes one want to fast-forward through some of her screen time. Sad since Stuurman is one of the best kept secrets in the South African acting realm. The most compelling character arc of all three ladies is the story of Nandi (Mmabatho Montsho); a lawyer and compulsive perfectionist. From the outside Nandi has the perfect life, a doting fiancé (Tongayi Chirisa), great career and forthcoming nuptials. But in reality she is suffocating, because all she ever does is give, while everyone around her takes. Her fiancé comes with baby mama drama, while her overbearing father refuses to see that his little girl is no longer little. Nandi is so concerned with keeping others happy that she can't even answer a simple question as 'What do you want?' If she didn't have enough on her plate, a blast from the past (Chris Attoh) re-enters her life, tempting her to come dance with the devil. Montsho is devastating in the role, approaching it with such eloquent subtlety and compassion. It's pleasant to see her back in front of the camera, because she was sorely missed. The chemistry between Montsho and Zimbabwean actor Tongayi Chirisa is electric, with the marvellous Chirisa as Montsho's on-screen fiancé threatening to steal a few scenes from her, especially in one pivotal fight scene.

Dirty GrandpaArtist: KaraboAlbum: Love Is A VerbLabel: Universal Music

He waited for no grass to grow. Just weeks after walking away with the coveted title of South Africa's newest Idol, Karabo Mogane has paced to put a body of work that seals his star power as an artist. We were sceptical, even worried, that Love Is A Verb might have been a bit rushed merely as means to capitalise from the popularity of the show before all the hype died down. An entire album put together in less than a month? We took an attentive listen to the release. Perhaps a smart move, the album opens with the lead single. Ding Dong is a laid back RnB track with an authentic South African twist. The song is a perfect opener for the album not just because it is the first ever single the Idols winner released towards the end of his run on the competition, but also because it sets in motion the tone for the rest of the record. Here, Mogane takes his rich vocal agility and puts it to good use in a seductive manner, creatively bringing in vernacular lyrics to take the album home.

Artist: YO GottiAlbum: The Art OF HustleLabel: EPIC/CMG

Yo Gotti is the hardest working rapper. You don't have to look further than his extensive catalog, comprised of 19 mixtapes and five albums, including his latest set, The Art of Hustle, out today (Feb. 19). Yo Gotti has been in the game for over a decade, earning himself the King of Memphis tag through his free music releases. As his Cocaine Muzik mixtape series kept his name buzzing in the streets, Yo Gotti's career began to flourish in the mainstream when songs from those tapes bubbled up and became his biggest records. Between 2013 and 2016, the 34-year-old rapper has broken into the Billboard Hot 100 with his street singles: the Jeezy and YG-featured “Act Right,” his The Art of Hustle warm-up “Errybody,” and his ode to flirting in Instagram private convos, “Down in the DM,” which got two lascivious verses by Nicki Minaj on the remix. On Billboard's Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart, Yo Gotti landed his first No. 1 for “Down in the DM” during its twelfth charting week last month.

Title: Boss Life: Surviving My Own Small BusinessAuthor: Paul DownsPublisher: Blue Rider Press

When columnist Paul Downswas approached by The New York Times to write for their “You're the Boss” blog, he hadbeen running his custom furniture business for twenty-four years strong. Now, in hisfirst book, Downs paints an honest portrait of a real business, with a real boss, a real set of employees, and the real challenges they face. Fresh out of college in 1986, Downs opened his first business, a small company that builds custom furniture. In 1987, he hired his first employee. That's when things got complicated. As his enterprise began to grow, he had to learn about management, cash flow, taxes, and so much more. But despite any obstacles, Downs always remained keenly aware that every small business, no matter the product it makes or the service it provides, starts with people. He writes with tremendous insight about hiring employees, providing motivation to get the best out of them, and the difficult decisions he's made to let some of them go. Downs also looks outward, to his dealings with vendors and to providing each client with exemplary customer service from first sales pitch to final delivery.

Mosimane unconcerned by dropped points

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes his side has collected enough points in recent weeks to feel comfortable ahead of their match against Mpumalanga Black Aces. Sundowns dropped two points in their goalless draw against Golden Arrows on Saturday, allowing rivals Bidvest Wits to reduce the gap at the top to seven points. The Brazilians face AmaZayoni, who are a further three points behind Wits, on Wednesday night and the Sundowns mentor is hoping victory will give the club a bit more breathing space in front of the chasing pack. "It's a big game because Aces are close to us," he told KickOff. "If we win the game, it gives us space little bit, a breather if you know what I am trying to say." 'Downs are enjoying a 16-match unbeaten run in the Premiership and, despite dropping points against Arrows, Mosimane says his side have won enough games to not worry at this point. "The Aces game is very important - as long as they don't get more points than us, it's okay," he says. "Because now you have to think differently; sometimes you want to win everything but you have to see who is behind you; are they getting maximum points? "No. So sometimes you mustn't worry that you need to win, we have won enough not to complain. We have won enough, we have done very well." -Sports24.co.za

Phangiso 'cocaine' gaffe out of line

Proteas spinner Aaron Phangiso has apologised after being caught imitating snorting cocaine during a live TV broadcast of last Sunday's T20 international against England. Phangiso was seen performing the impression while sitting in the dugout during South Africa's successful run-chase at the Wanderers. Phangiso was quick to apologise for his actions. "I was sharing a light and humorous moment with my team-mates, but in hindsight I realise it was a silly and irresponsible thing to do. I would like to apologise for my actions and to all those who I may have offended," Phangiso said as the incident quickly hit the headlines in Britain's Daily Mail. Phangiso was filmed alongside injured opener Quinton de Kock and fast bowler Kagiso Rabada while South Africa were batting. Phangiso, 32, was seen 'sniffing' an imaginary substance on his leg and then leaning back in satisfaction. Cricket South Africa's CEO, Haroon Lorgat, commented on the incident: “We understand that Aaron was sharing in a light-hearted moment with his team-mates, but his action on television was inappropriate in the light of the drug problem that we are challenged with in South Africa. “We have asked team management to highlight the responsibility all players have in being positive and inspirational role models to the youth of this country.” Phangiso, who was awarded a Proteas contract last month, made headlines when it was revealed he was barred from a team flight in an intoxicated state last October. - Sports24.co.za
