1. Apply for the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application used by nearly all colleges to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid, including grants, student loans, and work-study programs. The FAFSA must be renewed every year you are in college. New year applications are available January 1 of each year.

The information you and your parents (if you are a dependent student) provide on the FAFSA will determine your financial need when attending college. You are considered dependent unless you are 24 years old, married, or have dependents of your own. If you believe you have special circumstances regarding dependency, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

You can fill out the FAFSA on the Web at: www.fafsa.gov

Use the OJC school code, 001362to send your application to OJC.

2. Review your Financial Aid Award Notification

Approximately 7-10 days after you submit your FAFSA application, OJC’s Financial Aid Office will send you an email to your MyOJC student email account with information regarding your award. When reviewing your award, you do not need to accept or decline your award package. All grants are automatically awarded.

3. Respond to the Missing Information Notice

If you are selected at random for Verification, or your FAFSA requires additional attention, you will receive an email to your MyOJC student email account titled “Missing Information.” All documents required will be outlined in the email and must be turned in to the Financial Aid Office to avoid processing delays.

Types of Financial Aid

• GrantsA grant is money that is awarded based on your financial need as determined by your FAFSA and does not need to be repaid. The Federal Pell Grant is the largest form of federal grant aid. OJC also offers state grants to qualifying students in the form of the Colorado Student Grant (CSG).

• ScholarshipsOJC offers a number of scholarships for students. For a complete list of scholarships available, go to www.ojc.edu/scholarships.aspx.

OJC offers the Colorado Scholars Program/3.0 GPA Scholarship, a unique scholarship for Colorado residents who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, and enroll full-time the fall semester after graduating high school. This scholarship is renewable for up to four consecutive semesters if you maintain the GPA requirement.

• Federal Student Loans Eligibility for student loans is determined by the results of your FAFSA. These loans can easily cover the costs of your education at OJC but must be repaid. If you are interested in this option, complete the FAFSA, and then contact the Financial Aid Office.

• Work-Study Program The Work-Study Program provides jobs for students who want to earn money to help offset the cost of education. Eligible students can work part-time on campus. File the FAFSA to determine if you are eligible for the program and contact the Financial Aid Office for more information on job opportunities.
