Letter From The President

Dear Stockton Ports fans,

Welcome to Banner Island Ballpark! We are ex-tremely proud and excited to have you be a part of our 63rd season! Entering this season, the Ports have a franchise 4,553-4,087 record, and a League record 11 championships. We look forward to bringing more wins and more championships home to Stock-ton in the future, so be sure to be at Banner Island Ballpark for all of the great baseball action!

Entering our eighth season as an Oakland A’s affiliate, we will continue to see plenty of top A’s prospects compete for the Ports. Stockton is proud to welcome these men into the Ports family and to watch them grow and develop into A’s stars. We also want to welcome back Webster Garrison, who’s the 48th manager in Ports history. We wish the team the best of luck this season and encourage our fans to cheer loudly with pride at each home game.

We have a ton of exciting things planned for our fans in 2012! In addition to all of the fun giveaways we have planned—from presidential seat cushions to bobbleheads and garden gnomes—the Ports will be welcoming several celebrities to Banner Island Ballpark. Two former A’s – Jose Canseco and Eric Byrnes – will both be stopping by the ballpark this season, and for the younger baseball fans, Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba! will make an appear-ance. This season, we will be keeping up with our weekly promotions, including two that have quickly become fan-favorites – 2-Buck Mondays and Thirsty Thursdays.

The Ports are also proud to continue to offer great fan clubs and community programs. Fans 12 and under can join the free Everyday Eddie’s Kids Club, presented by Subway Restaurants while fans 55 and older can join the Scan HP Silver Sluggers Club for $15. Both fan clubs offer their members free tickets to Ports games, a membership card and other great benefits. The Ports are also proud to continue to support area schools through the free Baseball by

the Books reading program, presented by Subway Restaurants, and through hosting Education Days on May 10 and May 22. The Ports also continue their support for area youth sports by sponsoring area Little Leagues, and offering our Little League and Junior Ports packages.

Banner Island Ballpark will also be the host site for several special events in 2012, such as the 5th Annual Dave Henderson Adult Baseball Camp (April 27-29) and the Run Against Hunger (No-vember 22). We are proud to partner with these wonderful organizations and serve as a venue for special events. If you are interested in host-ing an event at the ballpark—whether it’s in the clubhouse, in the Comcast Club or luxury suite, on the field or even in our conference room—please contact our Special Events staff.

As always, if you cannot make it out to Banner Is-land Ballpark for a game, you can follow the team live on the radio each game on KWSX 1280 AM or on our website via free audio streaming. You can also watch select games on Comcast Hometown Network (Channel 104 for Comcast customers) live or ON Demand throughout the season. Please be sure to visit our website for up-to-date statistics, roster information, fun features and much more! You can also network with the team and other fans on our Ports social networking pages on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterst. Ports fans can visit our Social Media clubhouse at www.stocktonports.com for more information and ac-cess to all of the Ports social media outlets.

We hope you enjoy your experience at Banner Island Ballpark and that we will see you cheering on your Ports often throughout the 2012 season! The Ports have enjoyed 62 wonderful seasons in the city of Stockton, and look to make their 63rd just as memorable. Thank you for your continued support!

Go Ports!

Sincerely,

Pat Filippone Stockton Ports President

Opening Weekend

With manager Webster Garrison returning for his second season, and after clinching the Northern Divi-sion Championship Title in 2011, the Ports are ready to start 2012 off strong. The Ports have been building up momentum the past few seasons, making a playoff appearance in 2010, and then the impressive 11-game playoff run in 2011 that lead them to the California League Championship. On the road to the Championship, the Ports defeated the Modesto Nuts in a three-game Mini-Series, advancing to the North-ern Division series against the San Jose Giants, which they won as well. In the Championship, the Ports faced off against the Lake Elsinore Storm, where the Storm pulled out with a 3-1 series win. This was the furthest the Ports have gone in the playoffs since winning the championship title in 2008.

There were several memorable moments that high-lighted the 2011 season, from walk-off home runs to strong player performances, but nothing was more memorable than the 17-game winning streak that started in mid-June. Between June 12 and July 1, the Ports swept 4 separate series and won 17 games in a row. As a team, the Boys of Banner Island raised their batting average from .248 to .276, and hit 25 home runs during the streak. The June 19 Fathers Day win was an unforgettable one, with Michael Choice blasting a 2-run walk-off in the bottom of the ninth, to nail another consecutive “W” for the Ports. Choice had a banner year in Stockton, ending his season with a .285 average, 30 home runs, 82 RBIs, and was selected to the post-season All Star team.

The 2012 Opening Weekend celebration kicks off on Thursday, April 12 against the Modesto Nuts, where the Ports will light up the sky with post-game fireworks presented by Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort.

The series against the Nuts continues on Friday, April 13 when all fans will receive a free Ports magnet schedule and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will get Ports Rally Flags. Fireworks return to Banner Island Ballpark on Saturday, April 14 and Opening Weekend will wrap up on Sunday April 15, where fans have the chance to play catch on the field before the game.

The Ports will also be celebrating the Stockton youth all weekend long, as Friday through Sunday,

little leagues from around the San Joaquin Valley will be in attendance as the Ports face off against their California League rivals. The Ports will also be hosting their first Baseball by the Books day on Sunday, April 15. Students from kindergarten to eighth grade who complete the Baseball by the Books program receive a free ticket to the Sunday game against the Nuts.

Even after the final out is recorded on Open-ing Weekend, the Ports keep the fun coming all season long. From fantastic giveaways—like the Presidential Seat Cushion on June 15th—to the Eric Byrnes Appearance (May 11), there is always something fun going on at Banner Island Ballpark.

The Ports will knock your socks off as they kick off the 2012 season with a weekend guaranteed to be full of fun. Join the Ports all season long as they once again set out to win it all, searching for an unprecedented 12th California League Cham-pionship. The Ports are sure to make a splash this season, so be sure to follow Stockton in their quest for another outstanding season!

Let’s Get It Started In Here!

“I was fortunate to be a part of many championship teams as a manager after ‘92, and managed many future big league all stars on them. But the ‘92 team was and always will be my favorite. They played with so much heart and desire that they simply captured mine. We were four and a half out with six games left in 4th place, but rallied to win the 1st half. And despite daily turnovers and player losses, they always strove to play with immense courage.”

“The memories are endless; from drop kicking a clothes hamper off Oreste Marrero during a post game meltdown (thank God he didn’t kick my [butt] on the spot), all those late game heroics (night after night we’d be down late with maybe two hits on the board), the “Oak-lies” and “Nuts” and chants, [Kurt] Archer getting slapped at our victory party, “Sunshine” (Dave Wrona) pulling the hidden ball trick opening night, then getting Damon Mashore of Modesto in a game that was instrumental. He was off the base for at least 30 seconds before tagging him. I asked him why he didn’t go earlier. The reply, “I had to finish my conversation with him first.” [Mark] Littell pinch running for our fastest player in the 9th after I’d been tossed, again. Twenty years, where did it go? Kids, age, the baggage and ravages of time-that year will always bring me a smile. For sure, it was a blast.”

Tim Ireland – 1992 Ports Manager

The Stockton Ports will recognize and acknowledge players of years past through out the entire 2012 season. Banner Island Ballpark will host an Alumni Night on Saturday, May 12 and all fans and Ports Alumni alike are welcome to attend this celebration. The Ports Alumni As-sociation will also be putting special focus on the 1992 and 2002 Championship teams and their accomplishments during the season.

Stephen Parker

Stockton Ports: While you were with the Ports in 2010, you received a number of awards (Player of the Week, Mid & Post-Sea-son All-Star teams, etc.) What was that like and what’d you get out of your time here?

Stephen Parker: Yeah, I really enjoyed my time here. It was a fun league to play in and I did play well so that made it better.

Ports: What was your favorite memory from the Ports?

Parker: Definitely the 4th of July game when I hit a walk-off home run to win it.

Ports: What have you been focusing on and working on lately?

Parker: I’ve been working a lot on the de-fensive side of the game. I’m trying to limit the mistakes I make and I’ve been working extra hard at that. I’ve also been working to make myself a better hitter, but the focus has been on defense.

Ports: What are your expectations for 2012, and do you have any goals?

Parker: I don’t have many expectations. I just want to play well and get myself into a good routine. And no, I don’t really have any goals either. I don’t like setting goals for myself, I just want to come out and play the best that I can. I’ve been trying to work on the fundamentals so that I can play better.

Grant GreenStockton Ports: 2010 was a great season

for you here in Stockton. What were some of your fondest memories and what did you remember most from that year?

Grant Green: My host family situation was amazing – I had a great host family, and she made it easy for us. It made coming out to the ballpark and hanging out with the guys a lot more fun. My greatest memory from the season was probably getting tossed from the 4th of July game and then hav-ing (Stephen) Parker hit the walkoff to win it. I remember getting tossed and the fans cheering, and standing outside the club-house, watching the ball go over the fence – it was pretty sick.

SP: You converted from shortstop to out-fielder, how’s that transition been for you?

GG: It’s been slow but it’s coming along. It’s definitely a work in progress right now. I’m still trying to figure out different routes to take and what not, but it’s coming along slowly but surely. I’m starting to get more comfortable as the days go on. After every BP (Batting Practice), I’m getting a little more comfortable, you know, starting to read the balls off the bat and figure out which balls I can get to and which I can’t.

SP: What are your goals and expectations for the season?

GG: Definitely just the same as every single year: hopefully just help the team win, and hopefully end up in Oakland.

SP: There’s a surplus of outfielders now, how’s that working out?

GG: Yeah we have a ton – it’s definitely a dogfight with each one of us. And having Jermaine out there too –Me and him both being here playing outfield, when in Stockton I was at short and (Mitchell) Jermaine was in the outfield, now we’re both in the outfield and it’s definitely a dog fight with all the guys, but we’re wishing everyone the best success and whoever plays, plays. It’s definitely good team chemistry and competition, there’s not many egos out there so it’s definitely a good mixture.
