QUALITY…ranks 3rd on the team with 14 quality starts, including 4 of last 5, and 6 of last 9 starts…when recording a quality start is just 5-4, but has a 1.73 ERA in those starts (18 ER, 93.2 IP)…leads the AL with 10 no-decisions.

ZERO STRIKEOUTS…has made 442 career starts, and for just the 10th time did not record a strikeout in his start Aug. 20 vs. the Indians…was just the third time in his 16th Major League season to make a start of at least 6.0 inning without recording a strikeout.

STINGY OUTINGS…has tossed at least 6.0 innings while allowing 1 earned run or less in 9 of his 27 starts this season, ranking T13th in the AL this season …teammates Jason Vargas (T7th, 10) and Felix Hernandez (1st, 16) are amongst the American League leaders.

    • 3rd pitcher this season to go 8+ years between shutouts: Barry Zito & Jerome Williams. • Became the 4th-oldest Mariners pitcher to throw a shutout at 37 years, 146 days …Jamie Moyer

MARINERS DEBUT…made Seattle debut in Mariners 4-3 win over Texas on April 11, but didn’t figure into the decision…allowed 1 run on 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 7…allowed 2-out RBI single (Young) in the first inning, but tossed 5.0 shutout innings before being re-moved after the 6th inning…Mariners scored a run in the top of the 8th and 3 in the top of the 9th to come-from-behind to win 4-3.

  • 15-HR, 15-SB CLUB…a pair of Mariners are close to joining the 15 HR-15 stolen base club, as Kyle Seager has 18 HR & 13 SB and Michael Saunders has 14 HR & 18 SB…no Mariner has recorded a 15 HR-15 SB season since Franklin Gutierrez in 2009 (18 HR, 16 SB)…the last time Seattle had a pair of players in 15 HR-15 SB club was 2003 (Boone - 35 HR, 16 SB & Cameron - 18 HR, 17 SB).

AFFILIATES UPDATE…the Mariners 9 minor league affiliates put together the best season in club history, combining for a 496-406 (.550) record…all but three of the Mariners affiliates qualified for the postseason in 2012…the organization led all Major League farm systems in wins (496) and winning percentage (.550).

LET’S ALL START “FELIXING”…Felix Hernandez was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for August…Hernandez compiled a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.08 ERA (5 ER, 41.2 IP) and 3 shutouts in 5 starts…all three shutouts were by 1-0 score, becoming the third pitcher in Major League history with three 1-0 shutouts in a calendar month…threw the 23rd Perfect Game in MLB history Aug. 15 vs. Tampa Bay in a 1-0 victory…the monthly award was the 3rd of Felix’s career (also: June & Sept, 2009)…combined with Jason Vargas to become only the second set of Mariners teammates to receive back-to-back Pitcher of the Month Awards (also: Felix and Washburn in June and July, 2009).

ROLLIN’…Oliver Perez worked 1.1 shutout innings Friday night vs. the A’s, and has not allowed a run in his last 18 appearances (13.1 IP) since July 8…the 18 consecutive relief appearances without allowing a run is tied for 7th-longest in club history, but 3rd-longest this season (Luetge - 22 & Wilhelmsen - 19).

HITTING CATCHERS…John Jaso (35 GS) and Jesus Montero (48 GS) have combined to start 83 of the Mariners 142 games…each are batting over .300 when playing catcher, with Montero ranking 3rd among AL catchers (.306/57x186) and Jaso 4th (.302/54x179) -- min. 30 G as catcher…Montero (10 HR), Miguel Olivo (8 HR) and Jaso (5 HR) have combined for a club-record 23 home runs by catchers (old record was 22 in 2000)…overall, Mariners backstops rank 3rd in AL batting .275 (146x531), trailing the Twins (.313/167x533) and White Sox (.276/142x514).

FIVE SPOT…Felix Hernandez recorded his 5th shutout of the Aug. 27 at Minnesota…the 5 shutouts are a Mariners single-season record, and tied for the most in a season by American League pitcher dating back to the 1989 season…only Roger Clemens (1992), David Wells (1998) & Bert Blyleven (1989) have had 5 ShO in a season since then.

MONTERO MASH NOTES…Mariners catcher Jesus Montero hit his 15th home run Sept. 2 off Jered Weaver; he is 2nd on the team in HR (w/Seager-17)…currently 6th-most in rookie club history…if he leads the team in HR, will become first Mariners rookie as team leader in longballs since Alvin Davis in 1984…Montero’s home run was also the club record 23rd by a Mariner catcher this season (home runs hit when player is at catcher)…previous record was 22 set in 2000.

DOUBLE-DIGIT DINGERS…Seattle has 5 players with at least 10 HR this season…Kyle Seager (18), Jesus Montero (15), Michael Saunders (14), Justin Smoak (14) and Dustin Ackley (10) are the first Mariners quintet with 10+ HR since 2009…if Miguel Olivo hits one more, will be first time with 6 players with 10+ HR since 2007.

BASES LOADED, SO WHAT…Dustin Ackley and Kyle Seager are currently tied for the Major League lead with a .636 (7x11) average with the bases loaded this season…Ackley is 6-for-6 with the bases loaded and less than 2 outs, while Seager’s 18 RBI with the base loaded ranks 4th in the Majors, behind Curtis Granderson (22), Nelson Cruz (19) and Andre Either (19).

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE…Mariners have won 18 of last 25 games at Safeco Field since July 26 to improve home record from 18-29 (11 games under .500) to current mark of 36-36 (
