Introduction
Playing a game Making a game
• Enjoy, entertain, use strategy target, goals, reward, etc • Create, develop, design, providing challenges, entertainment, questions, etc
Introduction
• Research about the use of computer games for learning activities showed that game can be an effective tool for learning
• The demand of creating educational game to support the learning activities is increasing
• In fact, game making is no longer complex activities because there are several games authoring tools are available
Possibilities • Students should be able to make their own
game while they learn some topics • Using several tools, the game making will be
easy for any students even though they have limited background in game-making
• Their friends could be invited to join the game making and also learn the selective topics together
• It will help them increase their passion to learn by selecting their own topics

Research Questions
1) What are the game making steps for collaborative learning method?
2) How do students perceive the collaborative task of designing a game to create activities for classroom use?
3) What are some of the challenges in creating the games?

The game when played on smartphones
Results (1)
• What are the game making steps for collaborative learning method?
Steps
Plan the knowledge sharing contents
Manage the job for each member
Modify the game template by inserting questions based on the plan
Compile and share the game product
Results (2)
• How do students perceive the collaborative task of designing a game to create activities for classroom use? Attitude towards the game usefulness for
collaborative learning is significantly correlated with attitudes towards the usefulness of game for language learning (r=0.521)
Results (3)
• What are some of the challenges in creating the games? Technical issues and their level of familiarity
with game making. They need more workshop The tools cannot be used online (cloud-
based), but it can be used for collaborative task of designing a game through internet by using Dropbox
Other Findings
• The cloud storage such as Dropbox could be used to save the team project’s files and used by all team members
• The virtualization software such as Cameyo could be used to make the learning environment more portable.
Conclusions
• The steps of game making for collaborative learning method are planning the contents, managing the members’ job, developing the game template, and compiling the game product
• The students perceived the collaborative task and the game making positively. Even though a few students had difficulties with the technical aspects of creating a game, they viewed the task as very interesting and useful for them.
• The cloud storage and virtualization software such could be used to make the learning environment more portable.

Collaborative Game Making • A model in which learners can work together to
create something that is meaningful for them, to have exposure to both the process and product. It facilitates the development of a range of 21 centuries, such as digital literacy1.
• The design and development of games could better address the needs of learners than simply playing existing games1,2.

Learning Method
• A systematic plan to achieve set learning objectives through appropriate steps3.
• Computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL): A type of collaborative learning technique in which students can learn a subject matter with their peers using computers4.

Another Finding: Dropbox
• To make the method works more optimal for collaborative learning, Dropbox can be used as the easiest way for saving the collaborative works
• To avoid mutually overwritten files in Dropbox, the job management for each team members should be clear
Another Finding: Cameyo
• Cameyo.com has a virtualization tools for Windows applications. It could be used to make the collaborative learning platform as a portable application
• The result could be run at any Windows machine without installation, but storage only
• However, it still can not run at the browser even though Cameyo has the capability to be run at its Cloud system

Suggestions
• Use different types of games that can work better to enhance problem solving skills.
• Perform further analysis of the Cameyo’s capability in the cloud system or use a game that can be modified online (cloud-based
