ST. LOUIS BLUES VS. FLORIDAThe Blues play host to the Florida Panthers at 7:00pm tonight at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Tonight’s game is the second of a three-game home stand for the Blues and the first and only match against the Panthers this season. The Blues are coming off the first of athree game home stand, a 2-0 loss to Phoenix. Following tonight’s game, the Blues will host Calgary Nov. 5, before traveling for back-to-back road games where they will see Philadelphia, Nov. 7 and Atlanta, Nov. 8. VS. Eastern Conference The Blues are 1-2-0 against teams from the Eastern Conference this season including a 1-1-0 mark vs. teams from the SoutheastDivision What to Watch for:The Blues have faired very well against teams from the Sunshine State in their history.   The Blues have posted a 28-13-6-1 recordagainst teams from Florida (Florida, Tampa Bay) in franchise history including seven shutouts. Scary Good:This year will mark the eleventh time the Blues have played on Halloween in franchise history. St. Louis has posted a 6-1-0-4 all-time ingames on the haunted holiday. Their last tilt on Halloween was 2001 against the Colorado Avalanche in which the Blues grabbed a 1-0victory. Keith Tkachuk is the only current Blues player that was on the roster Oct. 31, 2001 and he assisted on Al MacInnis’ gamewinning goal.  Florida Connection:Blues video coach Scott Masters was with the Florida Panthers from 2001 to 2004. In 2004, while with the Panthers, Scott waspromoted to video coach becoming the youngest coach in the league at 26 years old. Among his many responsibilities, Scott producedlive breakdowns and analysis of team games with real time communication to the Panthers bench. He also scouted National, American,Junior and NCAA hockey league games while at Florida. Upon leaving the Panthers, Scott spent a brief stint coaching the Bostonfranchise in the Original Stars Hockey League before joining the Blues in 2005.  Return of the Captain:Eric Brewer returned to the lineup Thursday, Oct. 29 for the first time since Dec. 13, 2008. Brewer played just under 18 minutes againstPhoenix in his return from a hip injury that sidelined him for 64 consecutive games. Before his injury Brewer led the team in TOIrecording 25:07 minutes per game.

GAME RECAP: THURSDAY, OCT 29 VS. PHOENIXThe Blues dropped the first game of a three game home stand to Phoenix Thursday night. After a scoreless first, DanielWinnik scored in the second period to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead and Taylor Pyatt added to the lead early in the finalframe making it 2-0. Despite out shooting the Coyotes and heavy pressure in the third, the Blues came up short andPhoenix held on for a 2-0 victory. Ty Conklin got the start in goal for the Blues stopping 27 of 29 Phoenix shots.

   

SEASON ENDING 2008-09The Blues ended a three-season playoff drought last season by recording the leagues best second half record at 25-9-7. After a 16-22-3 first half mark, the Blues turn around vaulted them from last place in the Western Conference to sixth resulting in their first playoffbirth since 2003-04. The Blues fell to the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.  -- Last season, the Blues were 7-10-1 against teams from the Eastern Conference including a 3-4-0 mark against the SoutheastDivision

CAPTAIN MCCABE: D Byran McCabe was named the club's sixth captain on Sept. 23. McCabe, 34, has previously served as captainof the NY Islanders during the 1997-98 campaign and also served as an assistant captain with each team he has played for over his14-year playing career (NY Islanders, Vancouver, Chicago, Toronto, Florida). The Calgary, Alberta native has played in 986 NationalHockey League games, registering 457 points (130-327-457) and 1,615 PIM. LONG TERM LOCK-UP: RW David Booth signed a six-year contract with Florida on July 1. Booth, who set careers highs in goals (31),assists (29) and points (60) last year became just the sixth player in franchise history to score at least 30 goals in one season. He alsorecorded a career-high and led the team with 246 shots on goal, as well as a career-best 11 power play goals.

DVO RETURNS: Orginal Panther RW Radek Dvorak signed a two-year contract with Florida on July 1. Dvorak, 32, played in 81 gameswith the Panthers last season scoring 15 goals with 21 assists, while pacing the club with four shorthanded goals. For his career withFlorida (1995-99; 2007-09), Dvorak has played in 484 games scoring 92 goals with 123 assists and 173 PIM and is tied for thefranchise’s all-time lead with 12 shorthanded goals. ON THE BLUELINE: Florida's top seven defensemen (McCabe, Ballard, Allen, Leopold, Seidenberg, Koistinen, Kulikov) have anaverage age of 27 and a combined 2,400 games of NHL experience. YOUNG GUNS: Four of the Panthers top five scorers from last season (Booth, Frolik, Horton, Weiss) are age 26 years old or younger. MILESTONE WATCH: D Bryan McCabe sits 3 games shy of 1,000 for his career while RW Radek Dvorak sits 16 games shy of themilestone. Peter DeBoer was named the 10th head coach of the Florida Panthers on June 13, 2008.  During his first year behind the bench heguided Florida to a 41-30-11 mark, their second best record in the team’s 15-year playing history. He kept the Panthers in playoffcontention until the 81st game of the season, a stretch that saw the club sit as low as 30th overall in the league towards the end ofNovember and as high as fifth in the Eastern Conference at the beginning of March. DeBoer coached his first NHL game Oct. 10 atCarolina and earned his first NHL win Oct. 11 in a 3-2 victory over Atlanta at the BankAtlantic Center Prior to joining the Panthers, DeBoer, 40, guided the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) to a 53-11-0-4 markduring the 2007-08 season, claiming the OHL Championship. During his seven year tenure with Kitchener, DeBoer earned 297 wins with a .676 winning percentage, while guiding his club to the2003 Memorial Cup title.
