BOISE For the most part, theBoise State Broncos have seen thisbeore.

Less than three weeks ago, they were acing a nationally-ranked team with a big television

audience. They hosted Oregon athome a year ago. Theyve had the

national media come through sinceall camp started.

Then again, todays game hassomething a bit new ESPNs Col-lege GameDay is in town, and theBroncos also will appear on ABC na-tionwide or the frst time in school

history.I think its exciting, its a rare

opportunity, Boise State quarter-back Kellen Moore said. Youreaware o that, youre aware o thestage youre going to be playing inront o.

Considering the multitude oactors with the No. 3 Broncos

battle with the No. 24 Oregon StateBeavers, and its no wonder some

have called it the closest thing to aSuper Bowl the city o trees will ever

see.In addition to the national attention,

theres the act the Beavers are only thesecond ranked team to come into Bronco

Stadium, and that the Sept. 25 home openeris the latest or Boise State since becoming a

When todays game is said and done, it will be easy to con-sider Ryan Katz battle tested.Considering hes a sophomore ready to make his thirdstart, thats saying a lot, but consider the Beavers schedule opening the season with now-No.4 TCU in Dallas, then a home game with a record crowd againstLouisville, then today at No. 3 Boise State.Im very pleased with Ryan Katz, I love hisdemeanor, Oregon State coach Mike Rileysaid. ... I think hes going to gro w weekly.

Hes completed 24-of-51 passes for 301yards and four touchdowns he has yetto thrown an interception this season.Hes been done a good job managing thefootball for us, we havent had any intercep-tions, hes helping us win the turnover battle,Oregon State running back Jacquizz Rodgerssaid. The Beavers will hope to see biggerpassing numbers fromKatz as he gets com-fortable, and oncehe does, he couldbe one of the Pac-10s best.Hes got all thephysical tools he might have asstrong as an arm thatIve seen on tape in a while, Boise State coach ChrisPetersen said. Dave Southorn/IPT

When youre a possible Heisman Trophy finalist, raising your game is marked by inches, not yards.Boise State junior quarterback Kellen Moore maynot find it easy to eclipse his outstanding sopho-more campaign, but early in 2010, hes on his way.

In two games, Moore has completed 43-of-68 pass-es (63.2 percent) for 585 yards, five tou-chdowns and one interception. Thatputs him on pace for about 3,800yards, 33 touchdowns and six int-erceptions in 13 games. Wevebeen very good in the red zone, which is something we certainlywerent the best at last year, hesaid. Third downs, weve done prettywell. Those are two situations wevereally emphasized and gotten better at.Moore had 370 yards passing last weekagainst Wyoming, but threw his first inter-ception in seven games. Never one to acceptcomplacency, Boise State coach Chris Petersennoted that the Cowboys dropped at least oneother interception, plus had one erased becauseof a penalty. This Saturdays opponent, No. 24Oregon State, had four takeaways and no give-aways in two g ames this season. Hes playingat a pretty high level, but there were a couplethrows last game we got away with big time,

Petersen said. Against a team thats one ofthe top turnover teams in the country rightnow, thats going to kill us.Dave Southorn/IPT

    FIVEKEYS

    For Boise State

1.Not Mr. Rodgers neighborhood.Boise States rush deense has beenstellar thus ar, but will get a big testrom 5-7 Jacquizz Rodgers. TheBeavers are 13-2 when he eclipses100 yards on the ground.

    2. Crash Katz. It will only be thethird start o Beavers QB RyanKatzs career. His frst road testwas against TCU, which blitzedhim oten. He completed only36 percent o his attempts in theloss, and memorably punted aball out o bounds or a saety.

    3. Keep it horizontal. With thestrong-armed Katz and WR JamesRodgers, the Beavers like to throwit deep. I the Bronco DBs cankeep the action in ront o them, they can keep OSU at bay.

4.Protect your assets. The BSUoensive line will be tested by astout OSU D-line. The still-jellingBroncos will need to be on thesame page all day.

    5. Special teams stoppers.James Rodgers is one o thenations best return men. Givingthe Beavers good feld posi-tion will put the Broncos backsagainst the wall and enable hisbrother to seek out the end zoneand let Katz use play-action.

More than anything, Im excit-ed to be back home, nickel Hunter

White said. That other stu is cool, but just being at Bronco Stadium,

with our ans, that is what will getus geared up the most.

Many saw Labor Days gameagainst Virginia Tech in Landover,Md., ar closer to Hokie countrythan Bronco nation, as Boise Statesbiggest test. There remains a largecontingent that believes todaysgame is the fnal hurdle to an unde-eated season, and maybe a nationalchampionship appearance.

Naturally, that means beating anOregon State team that exactly two

years ago beat then-No. 1 USC.It seems like all these games

are big games, Boise State coachChris Petersen said. The nextone is always just as big. We havea tremendously tough opponentcoming in, and thats what reallychanges things.

Part o the reason the Broncoshave been successul in big games

in recent years (2007 Fiesta Bowl,2008 at Oregon, last seasons con-test against Oregon and the FiestaBowl), is their ability to ocus onthe task at hand, not what liesahead.

For me, and probably the wholeteam, were so used to our routineand what we do every week, wedont really pay attention to thebuzz, oensive tackle Nate Potter

said. Its only dierent because itsa home game, and that brings a di-erent aspect to it. Were approach-ing it the same way we have the lastcouple years.

Playing games in the spotlightis no longer a rarity or the Bron-cos, and is the same case or theBeavers, who opened with a 30-21loss to now-No. 4 TCU in Dallas onSept. 4.

I dont think this will be a majordierence or a big surprise or ourteam, Oregon State coach MikeRiley said. Thats kind o the goal.I think you learn to handle it, playand ocus despite everything thatsgoing on around you. Thats the

way we want our program to be,and to be considered anyway. Themore that becomes commonplace, the better it is or your players.

Being able to block out the out-side noise may have been somewhateasy to do when playing on theeastern seaboard, but with all theattention solely on Boise this week-end, its a dierent scenario. Eventhen, Petersen said it comes down

to dealing with the distractions justthe same, no matter where or whenthe game takes place.

Itll be the next step in thisteams development, how theyhandle being at home and all thoseother things, he said.

The Broncos will opt to let thethousands o ans in and aroundBronco Stadium get psyched upabout the spotlight, instead choos-ing to ocus on the 100 or so play-ers on their sideline and the 70 orso on the opposite one.

All we can worry about is Or-egon State, and ourselves, receiverTyler Shoemaker said.
