Dr. Veerappa Moily, UnionMinister for Petroleum andNatural Gas, while complementingthe Kendra on its new venture,revealed that in a move tocreating job opportunities for the

unemployed, a National ArtisanCentre will come into being onOctober 2, at Chikballapur.On a rough estimate about 25per cent graduates areunemployed. The new centrewill impart specialized trainingto such graduates, he added.

Earlier, Sri N. Ramanuja,Chairman, Bhavan Karnatakawelcomed the gathering andexplained the prospects of theproject.

Prof. M H Krishnaiah,a well-known litterateur, said Prof. Nissar’s poetry stood outfor subtle humour, sometimesbordering on sarcasm. Theyunveiled a sort of imprecation.Yet his poems are free from anykind of protest or revolt, headded.

Replying to the felicitation,Prof. Nissar who thanked theGokak Trust profusely for the

felicitation, observed that for agood-hearted individual poetryinspires noble ideals in life.He said poetry channels views forunderstanding life, as it did in thelives of Pampa, Ranna, Vyasa orValmiki. Likewise, sound historicsense is awakened in Gokak’swritings. That is how he wasable to produce a work which iscomparable with a masterpiecelike Kuvempu’s ‘RamayanaDarshanam’. The result is a worklike “Bharata Sindu Rashmi”which aptly appropriates India’sglorious history.

Referring to the causes forthe drastic change, Dr.Manjunathattributed it to changing life styles,adding that breast cancer is alsodue to this very change.

Dr. Manjunath said thattoday the women folk wereworking on the same line of theircounterparts. Besides, they weretaking grater care of theirhusbands and children. But theywere neglecting their own health,taking their own time to go to adoctor.

Dr. Manjunath stressed thatit was imperative that men pastthe age of 35 and women over45, should consult the doctoratleast once a year. Quotingstatistics from the JayadevaInstitute, Dr.Manjunath said ofthose undergoing medical tests inhis hospital, 5,000 were heartrelated patients. Among them 45were below 25 years. Evenyoungsters between 18 years of

age were victims of heart disease,he bemoaned.

Dr. B. Chandrakanth Patil,Professor at St.John's MedicalCollege and Hospital, opined thatdoctors must have cordialrelations with patients. Theymust listen to the patient abouthis complaint for atleast fiveminutes. Then he will be infusedwith self-confidence. With this,his recovery will be faster,he averred.

Referring to health needsDr.Patil was sore about theshortage of sports ground inschools, thereby deprivingstudents of sports. They areseemingly under greater pressureto score higher marks and ranks.Naturally, diseases attackthose under pressure faster.He suggested that to avoiddisease, it is necessary to adopta decent life style.
