For the Business leader of today, Non-cooperation is a stark reminder of the need to do far more than order their employees about. A complex Business enterprise cannot be run on forced obedience. Voluntary cooperation- self direction toward common goals is required, and it is the task of CEOs and the Managers to secure it day by day. The Six lessons in this chapter discusses how to use Non- Cooperation in todays context.

LESSON 14: COOPERATION MUST BE EARNEDLeadership that rests solely on authority can never create the degree of cooperation required to produce sustained excellence. This level of organizational performance requires a foundation of cooperation, which you must earn by respecting your staff, engaging them, challenging them, rewarding them and listening to them.

LESSON 15: THE SHELL OF OBEDIENCE.CEO’s needs to learn that forced obedience is a folly- less than worthless. only an organization built on compliance, in which the leaders earn the privilege of leadership everyday from the consent of those they lead, is built to endure and to prosper.

Chapter 3 The Genius of Non- Cooperation

LESSON 16: BOYCOTT A BAD BARGAIN.Offered a bad bargain, the best thing to do is to walk away from it. Don’t argue, Don’t cajole. Don’t threaten, Just Leave.

LESSON 17: OPT OUT OF ARGUMENTThe best way to win an argument is to avoid it. Since this is not always possible in a business arena, have only those which are worthwhile. CEO’s often mistake of believing that their leadership is based on power. The truth is that the leadership of any CEO is not based out of power but on Results. Leave argument for your rivals, invest your time in creating excellence.

LESSON 18: USE SOCIAL JIU-JITSUJiu-Jitsu is a technique in which you put the opponent in a position to be defeated by his own strength. The great example, overload the employee who doesn’t delegate work and works in wolf style and even promote him. Sooner than later he has to delegate the work, and you continue to keep your calm as you will start seeing results.

LESSON 19: ENDS CANNOT JUSTIFY MEANSAn effective leader leads for change but takes great pains to ensure that only the proper instruments of change are employed. Means and ends are inseparable. Violence, which in a business context encompass deception, fraud, intimidation, and the like cannot bring about a healthy, ethical, enduring change for the better.
