Eugene Ashley High School 1,600-student high school Joint venture between board of education

and county commissioners for an educational campus within a county park setting.

The “schools in a park” concept provides intensive use of recreational facilities.

Buildings also serve as emergency shelter and staging area during hurricanes.

Designed using distinct academic houses to create a smaller scale and promote familiarity among students and teachers.

Features a gymnasium, dining/kitchen and career exploration.

Two academic houses flank a new library and media center.

and media center. Building encourages and develops community involvement

by providing a setting for recreation and life-long learning. Flexible use emphasized. Divided into classroom “houses”. Each unit comprised of classrooms, administrative offices to

improve security, teacher offices and resource areas. Individual house could represent a department, a grade

level or a “school within a school”. Student resource area within each house to support self-

guided learning strategies.

Waverly High School 125,000 square foot high school

Accommodates block scheduling, cross disciplinary teaming, thematic curriculum, project based learning and other applied learning approaches.

Plan features four grade specific learning environments surrounding central resource core which includes:

- Science and technology lab- Computer resource area- Teacher office/resource room

Conference rooms and small group rooms add flexibility of each pod.

Facilities designed to offer a wide variety of teaching and learning opportunities.

core that houses administration and support areas. Facility includes state-of-the art gymnasium, library/media

center and a fully equipped performing arts center. In conjunction with the City of Knightdale to provide

additional parks and recreation areas for the community. Includes football stadium, practice fields and baseball

complex with concession and field buildings and parking areas.
