Getting Started
Setting Up Your nviBefore mounting the nvi, see theImportant Safety and Product Informationguide for informationabout laws pertaining to windshield mounting.
Mounting Your nvi1. Remove the clear plastic from the suction cup. Place the suction cup on the
windshield.
2. Flip the lever back toward the windshield.
3. Snap the cradle onto the suction cup arm.4. Plug the vehicle power cable into the back of
your nvi.
5. Plug the other end of the vehicle powercable into a power outlet in your vehicle.
Your unit should turn on automatically if it isplugged in and the vehicle is running. Follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Fit the bottom of your nvi into the cradle.
7. Tilt your nvi back until it snaps into place.
8. If you are using a trafc receiver in Europe,
connect the external antenna to the trafcreceiver and secure it to the windshield usingthe suction cups. (Trafc receivers are includedin some nvi packages. See page iv.)
WARNING: This product contains a lithium-ion battery. To prevent damage, remove the unit from thevehicle when exiting or store it out of direct sunlight.

Getting Started
Acquiring Satellites1. Go outdoors to an open area,
away from tall buildings and trees.2. Turn on your nvi.
Acquiring satellite signals can take afew minutes. The bars indicatesatellite strength. When at least one
of the bars is green, your nvi hasacquired satellite signals.
Selecting a Usage Mode
Automobile
Pedestrian
Bicycle
Your nvi offers several usage
modes for navigation methods.Routing is calculated differentlybased on your usage mode. Forexample, in Pedestrian usage modewith cityXplorermaps loaded, your
nvi calculates a route that uses a
combination of public transit options,such as riding a bus or subway, and
walking. cityXplorer maps are notincluded with your nvi. Seewww.garmin.comto purchasecityXplorer maps.
To change your usage mode:
1. From the Main menu, touch theusage mode icon on the upper-left corner.
2. Select a mode, and touch OK.
3. TouchYes, and follow the
on-screen instructions tocongure your settings.
Navigating Off RoadIf you are not following roadwaysas you navigate, use Off Road
mode. Touch Tools> Settings>Navigation > Route Preference >OffRoad> OK.

Finding an Address
NOTE: Depending on the versionof the maps loaded on your nvi,the button names can changeand some steps could be ordered
differently.
1. Touch Where To?> Address.
2. Change the state, the country, orthe province, if necessary.
3. Touch Search All.
If you know the city, touch SpellCity, enter the city/postal code,and touch Done. Select thecity/postal code in the list. (Not allmap data provides postal code
searching.)
4. Enter the number of the address,and touch Done.
5. Enter the street name, and touchDone.
6. Select the correct street in the list,if necessary.
7. Touch the address, if necessary.

Deleting Recently FoundPlacesTo remove all places from theRecently Found list, touch Clear> Yes. All items from the list areremoved, but this does not delete theactual place from your nvi.
Using Favoritesvorites
You can save places in yourFavorites so you can quickly ndthem and create routes to them.Your home location is also stored inFavorites.

Entering CoordinatesIf you know the geographic
coordinates of your destination, youcan use your nvi to navigate to yourdestination using the latitude andlongitude coordinates. This can beespecially helpful when geocaching.
1. Touch Where To?>Coordinates.
2. Touch the coordinate you want toadjust.
3. Touch Formatto select the
correct coordinate format for thetype of map you are using.
4. Enter the coordinates, and touchNext.
Using Photo NavigationYou can load pictures with location
information onto your nvi and thencreate routes to them.

information.2. Follow instructions on the Web
site to select and load pictures.

Your route is marked with amagenta line. As you travel, yournvi guides you to your destinationwith voice prompts, arrows on themap, and directions at the top ofthe map. A checkered ag marks
your destination. If you departfrom the original route, your nvirecalculates the route and providesnew directions.
A speed limit icon may appear asyou travel on major roadways. Thisicon displays the current speed limitof the roadway.
On some models, the turn indicatoralso includes Lane Assist, which tellsyou which lane you should be in toprepare for your next maneuver. Seepage ivto view a list of models thatinclude Lane Assist.

The trip computer displays yourcurrent speed and provides statisticsabout your trip. To view the tripcomputer, touch the Speedeld onthe map.
NOTE: If you make frequentstops, leave the nvi turned on soit can accurately measure elapsedtime during the trip.
Resetting Trip ComputerInformationFrom the map, touch the Speedeld.Touch Reset> Reset Trip Datato reset the information on the tripcomputer.
Touch Reset> Reset Maxto resetthe maximum speed.
Touch Reset> Reset Fuel Pricetoreset the fuel price.
Viewing the Turn List
When you are navigating a route,the turn list displays turn-by-turninstructions for your entire route andthe distance between turns.
Touch the text bar on the top of themap to open the turn list. Touch aturn on the list to view the next turnfor that route. Touch Show Maptoview the entire route on the BrowseMap page.

Phone CallsBluetooth wireless technology isavailable on some nvi models. Seepage iv.
Bluetooth wireless technology
establishes a wireless link betweentwo devices, such as a mobile phoneand your nvi. To determine whetheryour mobile phone with Bluetoothtechnology is compatible with the
nvi, go to www.garmin.com/bluetooth.
The rst time you use two devicestogether you must pair them byestablishing a relationship using
a PIN or passkey. After the initialpairing, the two devices can

trafc receiver, you will receivelocation-relevant offers and coupons.Ad-based trafc information is onlyavailable in North America.
The trafc receiver must be
connected to external power and youmust be in a coverage area to receivead-based trafc information. Whenan offer appears on the screen, touchthe offer to search for the nearest

Caring for Your nviYour nvi contains sensitiveelectronic components that can bepermanently damaged if exposedto excessive shock or vibration. To
minimize the risk of damage to yournvi, avoid dropping your unit andoperating it in high-shock and high-vibration environments.
Cleaning the Unit
The nvi is constructed of high-quality materials and does notrequire user maintenance other thancleaning. Clean the outer casingof the unit (not the touchscreen)
using a cloth dampened with a milddetergent solution, and then wipeit dry. Avoid chemical cleaners andsolvents that can damage plasticcomponents.
