Judy Klass • The Brooklyn Cowgirl Rides Again www.reverbnation.com/judyklass

Judy Klass has released a two-disc CD collection entitled The Brooklyn Cowgirl Rides

Again. Judy wrote or co-wrote all but one of the songs. Interestingly enough, that one

song, “Mariko,” is her English version of Japanese artist, Myuki Nakajima;s song.

Judy’s lyrics are engaging and entertaining. Of particular interest are “Drink It Over”

and the title cut, “The Brooklyn Cowgirl Rides Again.”

Karen Richards • At Home With Karen Richards

Karen Richards’ eight-song CD, At Home With Karen Richards, includes five self-

penned tunes as well as the Patsy Cline classics, “Walking After Midnight” and

“Crazy.” Her songs focus on the lyrics and her vocals compliment them nicely. She

opens the album with her best song, “Ladies Man” and closes with her version of

“Crazy.” All in all, a satisfying project.

Country Music Hall of Fame inductees, The Oak

Ridge Boys, mingled with Taylor Swift after her Satur-

day, October 17 show at AT&T Stadium in Arlington,

Texas. The legendary country group visited with Taylor

and her parents backstage, and The Oak Ridge Boys are

still talking about it.

“What an awesome, inspiring experience,” said The

Oak Ridge Boys' tenor Joe Bonsall about hanging back-

stage with just Taylor and her family.

"This was the most amazing show I have ever seen…

When I wasn't thinking about it all night, I was dream-

ing about it!" added Duane Allen.

Taylor’s father recounted seeing The Oak Ridge Boys

and Kenny Rogers at a show in Hershey, PA in 1979. He described how impressed he was with how they fired up

the crowd.

“They were extremely kind. We talked as friends, neighbors and business colleagues with mutual admiration,” ex-

pressed Bonsall.

Branson, Missouri is well-known as a vacation destination for country music

fans. Behind the scenes, it has taken business men and women with a vision to

turn this small sleepy town tucked away in the Ozark Mountains into a bustling

music mecca. Randy Little, owner of PFI Western Store and the Starlite Theatre,

was born and raised twenty miles south of Branson and is proud to be a part of

this vibrant community.

In 1975, Randy, a graduate of the University

of Missouri, along with four partners opened

Preferred Farmers Incorporated in Springfield,

Missouri. The business was originally a live-

stock feed and farm supply store, but over the

years, with Randy now as the sole owner, has

metamorphosed into a Western Wear com-

pany and one of the largest single unit stores in the country!

Several years ago, he wanted to diversify, so along with Bill Killian, he pur-

chased the Starlite Theatre in Branson. It was a natural progression from West-

ern Wear to Country Music, Randy notes, “Music dictates styles from movies to

Garth Brooks and we’ve been in the western business so it goes hand in hand.”

Randy always had an interest in music, even played saxophone as a child. While

he may not be on stage, he is involved in creating the excitement. In addition to

the shows presented at the theatre, every year he hosts the “Party in the Parking

Lot” concert, which this year helped raise money for Breast Cancer.

Whether discussing the PFI Western Store, the Starlite Theatre, Branson or sharing his interest in vintage Cadillacs,

Randy Little is always fully engaged and passionate. His enthusiasm when describing singer/songwriter, Ben Still-

water’s recent Cadillac purchase as “simply beautiful,” could also describe Branson through his eyes, “simply beau-

tiful.”

It was originally the Presley’s Country Jubilee and the Baldknobbers Jamboree that paved the way for other theatres

in Branson - now the town has more theatre seats than New York City. The Starlite Theatre continues to raise the

bar by booking legends like Gene Watson, Billy Dean, Larry Gatlin, Jimmy Fortune, Bill Medley and The Black-

woods, as well as Branson favorites, the Texas Tenors. Also, as a sponsor of Larry’s Country Diner, The Starlite

Theatre opens its doors to the show for two weeks of on-location filming.

Branson is having another growth spurt much like Nashville. Randy comments, “It’s a wholesome place for people

to come and bring families to enjoy lakes and theatres and get to see the people they’ve wanted to be associated with

all their life.” With the planned “Beautification of 76” project in the works to improve aesthetics and mobility along

five miles of Highway 76 and the high quality of entertainment available, Randy remarks, “I see nothing but bright

things for Branson.”

Groundbreaking vocal group, The Oak Ridge Boys,

became one of the newest inductees into the Country

Music Hall of Fame during a star-studded emotional

Medallion Ceremony on October 25, 2015. Considered

country music’s most prestigious event, the ceremony

is the official induction of new Hall of Fame members.

Alongside fellow 2015 Inductees Jim Ed Brown and

The Browns, and studio session great Grady Martin,

The Oak Ridge Boys were feted with heartfelt testimo-

nials and memorable performances of songs they made

famous. The artists paying tribute varied widely in

ages, backgrounds, and styles, which underscored the

eclectic nature and crossover appeal of the musical

contributions of the artists being honored.

"These men and women distinguished themselves

through virtuosity, harmony and heart,” said Jody Williams, BMI executive and trustee on the Country Music Hall

of Fame and Museum’s Board of Officers and Trustees. Williams filled in for the ceremony’s usual host, museum

CEO Kyle Young, whose mother died on October 13.

"They have made music that endures through decades,” Williams continued. “Tonight, we honor them-respectfully,

formally, and enthusiastically-as country music masters.”

The inductions focus on paying tribute to the inductees, celebrating their stories with spoken and musical tributes

and original videos that draw on photos, interviews and performances found in materials lovingly collected in the

museum’s Frist Library and Archive. The result conveys the special talents, personalities and unique stories of each

new Hall of Fame member and underscores why each inductee deserves the prestigious honor.

For the musical portion of the tribute for The Oak Ridge Boys Jeff

Hanna of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, an emergency replacement for

Chris and Morgane Stapleton, whose travel plans were interrupted by

flooding in Texas, performed “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Day-

light.” The Rodney Crowell song had been a #1 hit in 1980 for the Oak

Ridge Boys.

Next, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood performed a delicate, touch-

ing version of the love song “I’ll Be True to You,” The Oak Ridge

Boys’ first #1 hit, in 1978. With Brooks on acoustic guitar as the only

musical accompaniment, Yearwood sang two verses, with her husband

on harmony. Brooks took the last verse, and Yearwood joined in for the

final chorus.

In a surprise to The Oak Ridge Boys, the Martin Family Circus bounded onstage. Featuring Duane Allen’s daugh-

ter Jamie Allen on vocals with support from her husband, Paul Martin, and their four children, the group delighted

Allen, his vocal partners and the rest of the audience with an animated version of “Elvira.” The children-March, 17;

Kell, 14; Texas, 10; and Tallant, 8-proved to be experienced stage performers as they drew out the celebratory,

whimsical nature of the singalong hit.

Kenny Rogers, a 2013 Hall of Fame inductee, inducted the Oak Ridge Boys, saying, “There’s nowhere I’d rather be

than right here tonight.” Rogers and the vocal group often toured together in the 1970s. Each member of the band

spoke about what the induction meant to him.

The audience at the private celebration was packed with Hall of Fame members, who welcomed the new inductees

into their exclusive club. Hall of Famers in attendance were Bobby Bare, Harold Bradley, Garth Brooks, Roy Clark,

Ralph Emery, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Ray Walker of The Jordanaires, Brenda Lee, Charlie McCoy, Randy

Owen of Alabama, Kenny Rogers, Connie Smith, and E.W. “Bud” Wendell.

The evening ended, as always, with a performance of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.” Museum employee and ace

guitarist Ben Hall, started the song off, performing an instrumental verse and chorus as the Hall of Fame members

gathered at the front of the stage. The Oak Ridge Boys took turns singing the verses, with all the Hall of Famers pre-

sent-and the theater audience-joining in on the choruses.
