This is Gary Jugert’s Little Book of Harmonica more popularly known as the Day One Harmonica Book. Everybody starts with this book and then moves on to Gary Jugert’s BIG Book of Harmonica. You’ll need a diatonic harmonica in the key of C to play everything in this book and you’ll want to buy a chromatic harmonica in the key of C pretty soon. There are two other versions of this book: The Public Domain Version of the Big Book is free and filled with more great music perfect for diatonic and chromatic harmonica. It’s available on the website. The Complete Version is not available except directly from me after we have a conversation about why you want it. How to Play Harmonica: • Wash your hands. • Brush your teeth. • Drink plenty of water. • Sit up tall and pretty. • Breathe from your belly. • Don’t blow or draw too hard. • Pucker up. Air should go through one hole at a time. • Your “kissing muscles” are your embouchure. They’ll help

you direct the air properly and to bend notes. • Be ready to “tooo” between every note. • Cup the harmonica with both hands. • Move your hands back and forth, not your face. • Harmonica tabs:

o 4 blow (all harmonicas) o ~4 draw (all harmonicas) o 4* blow with button in (chromatics) o ~4* draw with button in (chromatics) o (456) use multiple holes to make a chord

• The sheet music includes ensemble arrangements for singers, pianists, guitarists, ukulele players, and any trained musician. Practice a little every day and meet up with others to play as often as possible.
