    Introduction

    How condensing technology works:

    Viessmann gas boilers and condensing technology turn

    up to 98 percent of the energy spent into heat. Through

    the condensation of water vapour contained in flue gas,

    additional heat is released which is returned to the heating

    system. This improves efficiency, cuts heating bills and

    reduces the environmental impact.

    In Germany alone, there are still around two million heating systems in use today which are more than 25 years old. Their owners are often completely unaware of how much money they are wasting unnecessarily on energy, which is pointlessly burned up and goes out of the chimney as unused heat. Furthermore, these old systems have an impact on our climate through unnecessary CO2 emissions which contribute to global warming.

    By replacing these floorstanding boilers with highly efficient condensing boilers, consumers can save a lot of energy – up to 35 percent when used alongside solar technology. This would translate into ten percent of Germany's total energy needs, with annual CO2 emissions simultaneously being reduced by 54 million tonnes.

    To do this, Viessmann equips its condensing boilers with stainless steel Inox-Radial heat exchangers. These cool the flue gases before they are routed into the chimney, to the extent that the water vapour contained in these gases is deliberately condensed. After the completion of the TÜV-certified process, default settings for each radiator valve and the optimum pump speed and heating curve are recorded on a printout. This provides the user with the necessary verification to be submitted with any application for KfW subsidies [Germany].     Large 5-inch colour touchscreen with energy cockpitA particularly striking feature is the five-inch colour touchscreen. The screen measures almost 13 centimetres diagonally, providing a large, clear display for the energy cockpit that keeps users updated on yields and consumption. It also shows the solar yield via the SM1 solar control module if a solar thermal system is connected; alternatively the gas consumption for central heating and DHW. Furthermore, the level to which the DHW cylinder is currently heated up is also clearly indicated. A histogram can show all these values by day, week, month or year.

    VITOSORP 200-F

    The Vitosorp 200-F gas adsorption heating appliance combines the benefits of heating with gas and those of utilising natural heat. The combination of gas condensing boiler and adsorption module reduces gas consumption by more than 25 percent, compared with conventional condensing technology. This saves fuel, protects the environment and makes heating with gas more efficient.

    Combining a gas condensing boiler and zeolite gas adsorption module in a single appliance reduces gas consumption by around 25 percent compared to conventional condensing technology.

    Proven condensing technology combined with geothermal or solar energyThe Vitosorp 200-F consists of a zeolite adsorption module and a gas condensing boiler. The adsorption module utilises free geothermal or solar energy to cover the base load of a building's heating demand. Geothermal collectors, geothermal probes or solar thermal systems can be chosen to tap into one of these sources of thermal energy from the environment.

    The gas condensing boiler fuels the adsorption process and covers the peak loads that inevitably occur on particularly cold days, in order to provide extra heating for domestic hot water.

    Flexible utilisation of thermal energy from the environment The special design of the Vitosorp 200-F allows flexible and affordable utilisation of geothermal or solar thermal energy. Solar collectors, geothermal collectors or geothermal cages are available for new build. In existing buildings, the solar collectors already installed can be used as a primary source. A vertical, 60 metre deep geothermal probe would be a space saving geothermal solution.

    Ideal for modern livingThe Vitosorp 200-F is designed to meet the heat demand of detached houses. It is particularly efficient in new build. The use of environmental energy ensures a secure supply for the future. This unit meets the stricter EnEV 2016 requirements [Germany] for new build. However, the Vitosorp 200-F is also an efficient solution for modernisation projects, as flow temperatures of up to 75 °C are feasible (recommendation < 55 °C).

    Easy handling and installation save time and money. With its compact dimensions, a width of only 600 mm for example, the gas adsorption heating appliance fits snugly into the space of a standard kitchen unit (minimum ceiling height 2.20 metres). Low operating noise and the harmless combination of materials – zeolite and water – allow operation inside the living space.

    Proven performance and low maintenance The zeolite heat pump module is hermetically sealed and therefore completely maintenance free throughout the service life of the appliance. The gas condensing boiler in the Vitosorp 200-F has a proven track record of high reliability and low maintenance going back many years.

    SubsidiesAdditional incentives for investing in this innovative heating technology are available from the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA). Further funding is available in addition to basic funding (see www.bafa.de).

    The ultimate wall mounted boilerThe Vitodens 300-W wall mounted gas condensing boiler can be used both in modernisation projects and in new build. Its output is 1.9 to 35 kW. The MatriX gas burner stands out due to its reliable and efficient operation, as well as its clean combustion and quiet operation. At the heart of the Vitodens 300-W is the stainless steel Inox-Radial heat exchanger. It converts the energy spent into heat with almost no loss.

    Wide modulation range The wide modulation range of 1:10 reduces the number of times the burner cycles when heat demand is low. This optimises the pause times and results in a particularly long service life for the ignition unit. The low fan speed reduces combustion noise.

    Wide range of applicationsThe Vitodens 300-W has output ratings that make it the ideal wall mounted gas condensing boiler for a wide range of applications:

    modernisation of heating systems in apartments or in detached houses with high demands for central heating and DHW convenience

    Personal DHW convenienceFor convenient provision of hot water, there are flexible cylinder solutions available for the Vitodens 300-W. The Vitocell 100-W DHW cylinders, with capacities of 120 and 150 litres, are especially space efficient. They are installed immediately below the condensing boiler. Their Ceraprotect enamel coating ensures a long service life. Versions with high efficiency thermal insulation reduce radiation loss to a minimum. For heavy DHW demand, DHW cylinders with capacities of 160, 200 and 300 litres are available that are installed alongside the Vitodens 300-W.

    Can be combined with solar thermal systemsFinally, for use in conjunction with solar thermal systems, versions of the Vitocell 100-W are available with capacities of 300 and 400 litres. DHW heating with free solar thermal energy can reduce energy bills by up to 60 percent.

    The extremely sparing use of valuable natural gas and low electricity consumption also result in lower CO2 emissions. Consequently, system users are also making an active contribution to protecting the climate.

    The high performance and compact Vitosolar 300-F heating centre for solar central heating backup and DHW heating consists of a 750 litre combi cylinder and is ready for direct mounting of the Vitodens 300-W wall mounted gas condensing boiler.

    The unit is under two metres in height and will fit even in cellars with a low ceiling. Its thick polyester fibre fleece insulation minimises heat loss and saves energy.

    A control unit for the whole systemUnlike other such systems, the Vitosolar 300-F manages with just one control unit: on the attached Vitodens 300-W, the large colour touchscreen of the Vitotronic 200 catches the eye straight away. The energy cockpit displays current operating data clearly.

    It shows the amount of thermal energy inside the cylinder and the temperature curve, along with the temperature stratification in the combi cylinder. The solar yield for the energy statement is included, too.

    Using the Vitotrol Plus app, you can operate the entire system from wherever you are via the internet.

    Economical and eligible for subsidiesOperating this system in conjunction with Vitosol solar collectors for central heating backup meets the requirements of the Renewable Energies Heat Act [Germany] and the Renewable Heat Act, Baden-Württemberg.     Further savings are available thanks to the variable speed high efficiency circulation pumps for the heating and solar circuits. These consume up to 70 percent less electricity than conventional pumps.

    The integral stainless steel loading cylinder on the Vitodens 222-W, with its 46 litre capacity, is particularly worth noting. This volume is comparable to a 150 litre DHW cylinder where hot water availability is concerned. The water heated to the required temperature in the heat exchanger (instantaneous water heater) continually charges the loading cylinder and is, therefore, immediately available for further drawings.

    All system components such as the loading cylinder, expansion vessel, pumps and safety valves are factory fitted, reducing the time spend on installation on site.
