over, so that nothing will be wasted.”

~ Jn 6:12

Dear Friends in Christ: This particular Gospel today is very near and dear to my heart and I’ll

tell you why. When we were studying the Johanine scriptures in the seminary, we had to choose a passage that we would not only describe (they called it “exegesis” or a ‘tearing apart’ bit by bit of the passage), but also draw. I chose today’s Gospel. This feeding of the five thousand had always intrigued me. I guess it was because there was so little food, and so many people, and then so much more food left over afterwards. Like the saying goes: “You can’t make this stuff up!” Indeed…you can only believe and see it through the eyes of faith. Today’s Gospel echoes in an al-most perfect way what we had heard from the first reading (2 Kings 4:42-44). Elisha knew what he was doing because he was a man of God. Elisha trusted in the Lord and of course, after the people had eaten, there was some food left over. There is one other connection and that is from the Psalm response today. We prayed: “The hand of the Lord feeds us, he answers all our needs.” This is tre-mendous because we are getting a lot of theological messages in these passages from the Bible. There are many differ-ent and exciting connections that we as Catholic Christians can relate too. It is summed up today in our second reading from Ephesians: “…you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, on baptism; one God and Fa-ther of all, who is over all and through

all and in all…” It is my sad duty to announce to you the death of our fellow parishioner Law-rence Thomas Sobieski. Lawrence died in the Lord on July 14, 2021 at UP Health Systems. Amongst his survivors are his sons, Douglas, Donald, and his daughters Connie Colon and Charlene (Jim) Modrak as well as other relatives. At this time, there are no solid plans for a memorial service, but one will proba-bly be held when the family proposes. It is also my sad duty to announce to you the death of our fellow parishioner Mrs. Theresa Camille Klarich. Theresa died in the Lord on July 18, 2021. Her Fu-neral Mass was held here at St. Francis de Sales Parish on Friday, July 23, 2021. Amongst her survivors are her sons, Mike (Pat Ann) Klarich, Dan (Karen) Klarich, Frank Klarich, and Ken (Kim) Klarich and daughters Pat (Hoss) Toen-nessen, Jane (Terry) Patz, Elaine (Ron) Cook and daughter-in-law Pauline Klarich. Let us pray for Lawrence, Theresa, and all of our deceased family members and friends: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them…Amen. While speaking to Don Erickson, our school principal this week, I found that our enrollment is increasing for the up-coming school year. This is very good news in that I want to see our school continue to grow and welcome new stu-dents. St. Francis de Sales School offers a quality education and safe learning environment. The teachers and staff are very good and know how to take care of

our valuable students. I also enjoy see-ing them at Mass once weekly or in the parking lot during recess (as well as at lunch time). If you are interested in en-rolling your child in our school, please call them at 906-341-5512. You can also call me with any questions and I’ll get the answers for you! We tried something new music-wise this weekend with our Polka Mass. I want to thank the musicians for offering their talents to us in providing the music for the Mass. You will have noticed that we are presently on the ‘search’ for other musicians who would be willing to pro-vide music for the Mass in the future. Someone asked me if I will still play the guitar and the answer is Yes! However, my ministry centers on the Eucharist. This is why I cannot “play” the whole Mass. When I was in Sault Ste. Marie and somehow got “roped” into playing the guitar at the Mass (for the whole thing), our pastor played the accordion for part of the Mass. But I still think that my main role is as presider which means I should stay with the presiding part for the Mass. It doesn’t mean that I can’t offer a song or two after Communion or prior to the Mass though:) Anything to keep people engaged and focused as I am… That’s it for now. Our story continues. Pray for me as I pray for you! Remem-ber: Smile! God loves you and so do I! Choose life! ~

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK God shows up in unexpected ways! Just when we think we have God’s agenda figured out, another surprise comes. Expecting to find God only in some places hin-ders us from finding Him everywhere. Who would have thought that a young boy’s few loaves and fishes would feed thousands of people? The disciples were probably just as amazed as everyone else when this feast appeared before them. Sometimes, we find it difficult to believe that God can do amazing things with something small and simple. Yet, grasping this truth is really at the heart of understanding the power of the Eucharist. Having the Body and Blood of Christ made present for us is one amazing wonder. Actually being fed and nourished by that gift is another. Now being able to become what we have eaten, God can do tremendous things with the simple, humble gifts of our lives. All we have to do is realize that God dwells within us. When we do, then everyone we encounter and everything we do has the power to become a sacramental moment. When done with great love even the smallest gesture can be multiplied ex-ponentially. Now, that’s amazing!
