Skills Assessment/Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of current skills/experience/training for visa processing and employment:

Onshore Assessments (in Australia)

− Submission of documented evidence of prior

qualifications/work experience

− Interview and work test

− Gap training if required

Offshore Assessments

− Initial self assessment – provision of a kit with qualification details

− Validation by a GCIT assessor for progression to formal skills assessment

− If assessment to proceed – applicant to submit documentation/evidence

− Interview and work test in home country (may require minimum assessment numbers)

GCIT Skills Assessments are not an official part of the Australian Federal Government visa application process. All skilled migrant applicants must seek a Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) Migration Skills Assessment directly from TRA or from a TRA approved RTO (depending on their required outcome) before being issued a visa. The provision of an Australian qualification from GCIT will provide the applicant an advantage and faster processing of their TRA submission, but GCIT is not recognised as a formal step in the Federal Government pathway to a visa.
