Number 5 Conferences
Conferences are a great way to network with other like-minded educators. You are able to attend many session about a variety of topics.
Upcoming Conferences which focus on technology integration:
Trussville Educational Technology Conference – Jan. 3
Alabama Educational Technology Conference – June 18 - 19, Birmingham, AL
National Educational Computing Conference – June 29 – July 2, San Antonio, TX
Number 4 Read a Book
Book studies offer individual time with content followed by focused group discussion.
Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms by Will Richardson is a hands-on guide to using these tools in classrooms. Will defines the tools, explores projects that utilize these tools in all grades and contents. The book is written in an informal style which makes it easy to read.
A book study will begin the first week of September on this book. E-mail April Chamberlain to reserve a copy.
Number 3 After School Workshops
After School Workshops are one to one and a half hours in length and focus on one topic of interest. Unfortunately, after school workshops are not easy for educators with children, coaching responsibilities, or other academic responsibilities.
After school workshops will be scheduled based on requests. If your school, team, or a group of teachers are interested in specific training, e-mail April to schedule a date and time. The content will be based on the objectives that you and/or your team specifies.
Number 2 Online
Online learning is one of the best ways to learn because you can choose the date and time you want to learn. There are many courses offered by the state in all content areas. Some educators prefer learning online because they can guide their own learning.
The Trussville City Schools Online Learning Center has been developed to assist you in learning basic computer skills, how to enhance education with technology, and much more! Think of it as PD in your PJ!
Number 1 Extended Time with Peers
The number one way to learn is with your peers focused on planning lessons. We want to give you this time to develop the engaging lessons with every resource to assist you.
Each month, groups of teachers can meet for 3 hours at a time in the training room at the board to focus on developing lessons for specific content areas. One group of 4 teachers will come from 8:00 – 11:00 and another group from 12:30 – 3:30. Subs will be paid for by Pat Hodge. However, the school will be responsible for securing the subs.
