    GEM Select 50

The GEM Select 50 AdvantageThe GEM Select 50 Specialty laser brings field-proven technology to the laboratory or field application. Developed over years of testing under severe operating conditions, anddesigned to be operator-friendly, the GEM Select 50 offers high beam quality and stabilityto meet the most demanding requirements.

The clean layout of the lasers rear panel offers immediate access to the interlock control, the key-operated on-off switch, and status indicators.

The superior performance of the GEM product line is demonstrated in high outputpower per unit volume, obtained with the parallel resonant, distributed inductance excitation scheme integrated into all GEM lasers. The optional PZT tuning mirror enablesfine frequency control about line center.

The GEM Select 50 is engineered, as are all our laser products, to deliver years of reliableservice.

Additional features provide flexibility for your unique requirements. With the optional grating tuner, over 60 discrete rotational lines are attainable over the 9.2 to 10.8 micronregion, with the strongest lines delivering over 40 watts. The optional PZT cavity-tuningmirror makes the GEM Select 50 an ideal source for CW heterodyne laser radars.

GEM Select 50GEM Select 50 Specialty Laser Options

Various options can be added to thebaseline Coherent GEM Select 50Specialty laser to fill a wide range ofapplications. If you require assistance in selecting options, provide us withyour requirements and we will workwith you to set the specifications anddesign.

Tunable WavelengthThis option allows wavelength tuning from 9.2 to 10.8 microns.A high-resolution grating and a calibrated, manually-driven differentialmicrometer permit accurate selectionof individual rotational lines. Outputpower with this option is specified as>40W at the strongest line; typical representative output powers can befound in the table.

Fixed WavelengthThis option is recommended whenfixed wavelength operation is required(specify wavelength when ordering, factory set). Output power is depen-dent on rotational line selected, withstrongest lines producing greater than40 watts. (See table for typical power.)

Full-Range 9 m OperationThis option optimizes performance in the 9P rotational branch (9.4 to 9.8 m) and allows operation over theentire wavelength range from 9.2 to10.8 m.

PZT Cavity TuningThe PZT cavity-tuning option allowsfine frequency control within any givenrotational line by adjustment of thecavity length. The typical tuning rangeis 50 MHz about the center line. Usersupplies 0 to 10V signal to adjust thecavity length.

Variable Output PowerThe variable output option allowsadjustment of output power from itsmaximum value to under 50% of fullpower. The actual adjustment range is dependent on the operating wave-length. Input power is also reduced.

Autonomous Frequency/Amplitude ControlThis option allows the laser to operatewith ultra-stable frequency and ampli-tude output. The use of an integratedmicroprocessor servo-loop system provides automatic control of thelasers output frequency and amplitudeby applying a ~1 MHz peak-to-peakdither to the cavity PZT, in conjunctionwith phase-sensitive-detection forfeedback control.

External Modulation InputThis option allows the user to operatethe laser in pulse or enhanced pulsemode via an external TTL input afterthe initial 5-second start-up delay. (Thisoption cannot be used in conjunctionwith the Variable Power Option.)

Internal PointerThis option provides an internal, visibleaiming beam that is collinear with thelasers output beam.
