Polymer-bitumen membranes

ABOUT MATERIALS

SLATE

The coarse-grained dressing compound (slate) is used for ultraviolet exposure protection of polymer-bitumen binder. At that, slate is painted in various colors that will help possible aesthetic problems.

Standard colors include natural gray, red, green and white, while other colors are available on request.The use of hydrophobized slate ensures that the moisture does not reach the binder and increases the adhesion of slate to the material thereby increasing the life expectancy of the roof covering.

SPECIAL COVERING

New eco-fi endly products line ENVIRO have a real impact on the environment, help to purify the air in cities and have a positive impact on energy effi ciency thanks to the fi nish surface with special additives.WHITE - surface with white high solar re-fl ection helps to obtain the «Cool Roof» effect on the fl at roof.BLACK - roof covering with black surface provides an energy-effi cient effect.Roofi ng material AIR has a positive effect on the reduction of nitrogen oxides NOx in the air. The main fi ghter against nitric oxide NOx is titanium dioxide TiO2 with special binder additives.FOREST surface with additives against the overgrowing with moss and vegetation.

FINE-GRAINED SAND OR TALCUM

fi ne-grained sand or talcum are used for installation of the subsequent (top) layer on cold- and hot-applied mastics;

fi ne-grained sand improves coupling of waterproofi ng system’s layers.

FILM

anti-adhesion polymer fi lm prevents the material from sticking to the roll;

indicator of the proper heating of the material at torch-on application (for the materials with graphic on the bottom side of the roll). It is ready to be welded when graphic is deformed but visible.

VENTILATION DUCTS

Surface with longitudinal streps of spe-cial elastomeric compound having some breakes and covered by anti-adhesive polypropylene fi lm. This surface allows to equalize the pressure of the vapor, that accumulates under the roof cladding.

SELF-ADHESIVE SURFACE

Special bituminous adhesive compound, protected with easily removable silicon-ized fi lm. Is used where the standard torch-on application is forbidden (wood-en base, extruded polystyrene).

SPUNBOND

Polypropylene (Spunbond) makes ma-terial non-slippery in different weather conditions.

PERFORATED SURFACE

Is specifi cally designed for use as the per-forated venting underlay, ensures an even distribution of the points of adhesion.

Roof coverings during their service life undergo the effects of many unfa-vourable factors from the external en-vironment. Changes in the surround-ing temperature cause deformations in both the roofi ng material and the base on which it is installed. The abil-ity to withstand such deformations is the most important characteristic of roofi ng material and this depends on the base used in the production of the material.

Compound is a specially formulated mix-ture of bitumens and polymers. The main difference between compound types is in the kind of polymer used:

SBS provide to the compound excellent low temperature workability, resistance to mechanical stress and ideal elastic performance. Their limitation is that they are unstable at high temperatures and do not withstand UV radiation.

APP provide to the compound excel-lent UV resistance and high tempera-ture stability. Their limitation is that they are less elastic and fl exible at low temperatures.

Advantages of polymers have led to the compounds which combine the best properties of SBS and APP polymers and are heat-resistant, UV stable, elastic and fl exible, even at low temperatures.

POE elastomeric polyolefi nes allow to improve the fl exibility of APP modifi ed bitumen membranes.

Special antiroots additives (Preventol B5) make it resistant to damage caused by roots of plants and ensure reliable waterproofi ng.

Special heat-adhesive bitumen com-pound that adheres to the old damaged waterproofi ng by torch-on application. This compound used for re-roofi ng materials.

Reinforcement can consist of: Glass fi bre mat: provides dimensional stability and rot resistance (V).

Polyester: provides good mechanical strength (PET).

Al foil: absolute vapour barrier (Al). Composite polyester: polyester mat with glass threads or net (CP).

ABOUT MATERIALS

1. The surface must be cleaned of dust, debris, grease, leaves and should not have gaps and cracks or other irregularities. Surface must be treated with primer before installation of waterproofi ng or insulating material.

2. During installation, material and base must be heated by torch, on all width of the roll. Additionally the place of the overlapping must be heated. During proper installation material sticks to base and on the edges the bitumen is leaking on around 15mm.

3. Overlays along the top roofi ng material should be located at a distance of min. 300 mm (usually 50% width) from the overlays of bottom material. Across overlays of top layers also should be located at a distance of min. 500 mm.

4. Width of overlaps along material should have at least 80 mm. Recommended ovelaps are 100 mm wide for single-layer. Width of head overlaps should be no less than 150 mm. The minimum width of rolled material, which can be mounted is 1m.

5. In the head overlaps area remove coarse-grained dressing compound, because it signifi cantly reduces the adhesion of roll roofi ng material. Overlaps must be additionally heated by torch.

1. The surface must be cleaned of dust, debris, grease, leaves and should not have gaps and cracks or other irregularities. Surface must be treated with primer before applying of mastic.

2. Spread the attaching mastic to the base with a special spatula, while adhering to the recommendations about layer. It is recom-mended to use a specialized cold-applied roofi ng mastic. You can also apply the hot-applied mastic, which is applied to the surface pre-melted at a temperature of 180°C.IMPORTANT! Mastic is always applied to the surface, not on the material.

3. Rolled roofi ng material should be installed on the spread mastic layer, avoiding creases and bubbles.IMPORTANT! Only materials with a coating of fi ne-grained sand are suitable for mastic-application.

4. Straighten the rolled material, smoothing it with a brush, to avoid creases or bubbles of air on the material. Then fi x the completely glued roll with a heavy roller.

5. Press down the material on overlappings until the mastic fl ow out of the joint. Optimally, mastic should be fl owed out from the overlappings not more than 10 mm and herewith not less than 7 mm.

1. Automatic equipment such as Leister Varimat may be used for overlaps adhesion in the process of installation. In this case it is recommended to arrange an additional mountable strip. It will increase convenience and operation speed. At this end joints do not need to be staggered. This technological method can be used in the process of applying traditional equipment – torch. In the system with the surface of the roof made of shaped decking single layer membrane should be rolled across fl ooring waves.

2. Longitudinal overlap is 120 mm. Transverse rolls overlapping - 150 mm. Staggered end joints must be arranged at least 150 mm from each other. If the roof surface is made of shaped decking, single layer membrane should be rolled across fl ooring waves.

3. The corner of the roll between upper and bottom rolls should be cut in the place of T-shaped joints.4. Cutting of the corner allows to increase the quality of welded connection and to avoid lack of material fusion in this place. 5. Places that can not be welded by automatic equipment, welded by hand using a heat gun.

TECHNONICOL ENVIRO - a new line of polymer-bitumen materials, created with care and keeping in mind future of our planet. The roof can have a real impact on the environment, help to purify the air in cities and have a positive impact on energy effi ciency. We prove that a roof can be green not only in colour.

TECHNONICOL ENVIRO AIR has a positive effect on the reduction of nitrogen oxides NOx in the air. The essence of the method consists in the oxidation of substances on the catalyst surface under the action of ultraviolet radiation. Harmful organic and inorganic pollutants, bacteria and viruses, ad-sorbed on the surface of TECHNONICOL ENVIRO AIR. The process is activated when UV-radiation from the sun hits the titanium dioxide particles, releasing energy for breaking down the NOx par-ticles. Polluted air passes over the TECHNONICOL ENVIRO AIR membrane where the NOx are con-verted into harmless levels of water, carbon dioxide and nitrates, which are washed away by the rain water.

TECHNONICOL ENVIRO WHITE helps to obtain the «Cool Roof» effect thanks to the surface with high solar refl ection. The solar refl ection of the material with a white surface is much higher than that of any other color. As a result, the roof covering is not heated and at the space under the roof (attic or utility room) remains at a comfortable temperature.

TECHNONICOL ENVIRO BLACK provides an energy-effi cient effect due to the fact that in winter during sunny days the roof covering with black surface absorbs the solar heat. As a result, the roof covering heated and, by heat exchange, the temperature in the space under the roof (attic or utility room) rises.

TECHNONICOL ENVIRO FOREST is polymer - bitumen waterproofi ng cap sheet with additives against the overgrowing with moss and vegetation. In case of precipitation it will be enriching cop-per ions, and copper has antifungal properties and inhibits the germination of mosses.

SCUDOART is an elastoplastomeric membrane (APP) with high performance stabilized spun-bond polyester and mineral granules on top. Highest waterproofi ng performances together with premium quality roof decoration. Low slope and pitched roofs will be enhanced by elegant colorful design and long-lasting water protection.

SCUDOART membranes can be installed on all typical roof slopes, both commercial and residential, and can also be used in external vertical surfaces.

SCUDOART membranes provide the roof with an elegant fi nishing touch which blends per-fectly with different architectural surroundings.

SCUDOART membranes allow a higher speed of application and better waterproofi ng re-sults when compared with traditional roof coverings, i.e. shingles or tiles.

SCUDOART membranes give you a great performance at a lower price. SCUDOART membranes, as they are lighter in weight when compared to shingles and tiles, are perfect for refurbishment of roofs of old buildings, whether they are constructed of brick-cement of wood.

SCUDOART ADHESIVE is an elastoplastomeric membrane (APP) with high performance sta-bilized spunbond polyester and mineral granules on top. The bottom surface and the sel-vedge have the special self-adhesive bituminous compound covered with siliconized release fi lm, to be installed without use of gas fl ame. The product is fast applied by pressure directly onto the underlayer and on the self-adhesive selvedge of the adjoining roll, after releasing the protective siliconized fi lm.End lap joints can be fully welded using a hot air gun, melting the compound of both the lower(mineral) and upper sheet and pressing it directly onto the mineral surface of the lower sheet.MECHANICAL FIXING:It is recommended to use mechanical fasteners along the side laps of mineral sheets. The number of fasteners depends upon roof pitch, general wind conditions and the roof ar-eas where membranes are installed. On perimeter walls and vertical surfaces, nailing every 15÷20 cm is recommended. Place nails 5cm from edge.

1. Unroll LOGICROOF membrane and position with a 12 cm overlap for washers. LOGICROOF membrane is marked at the factory with seam overlap lines and fastener location markings for ease of installation. Half width rolls of membrane are available for use in the critical perimeter and corner areas of the building.

2. All surfaces to be welded shall be clean and dry. Use automatic electric hot welding equipment for weld seams. The speed, air fl ow and welding temperature of the LEISTER VARIMAT can be adjusted to accommodate changes in ambient temperature.

3. Release the lock on the gun mechanism, the nozzle will lay fl at on the roof membrane adjacent to the overlapping membrane. Slide the nozzle between the two membranes until the gun mechanism locks.

4. The machine will now travel automatically at the required setting.

5. Round off sharp edges with scissors. When possible, avoid creating multiple cross joints with more than three sheets.6. The back edge of the lap shall be welded with a thin, continuous pre-weld to prevent the loss of hot air during the fi nal welding.

Tack welding not permitted on fi eld sheets.7. The nozzle shall be inserted into the seam at a 45° angle to the edge of the membrane. Once the proper welding temperature has

been reached and the membrane begins to “fl ow”, the hand roller is positioned perpendicular to the nozzle and pressed lightly.8. Make a sample weld to test the temperature before starting work. Cut out a 1 cm section of the welded membrane. Apply pressure

to the weld by pulling on the two ends of the sheet as illustrated in the picture. The membrane must fail outside the welding seam.

SHINGLAS

Houses with roofs made of bitumen tiles SHINGLAS mesmerize with its harmony and grace. Using SHINGLAS you will enjoy not only the spectacular appearance of the roof, but also offering the best in convenience, quality and safety for many years. The roof will stand in any weather and will remain as bright as on the day it was mounted.

A laminated shingle has an ex-tra layer under its lower half. This makes its tabs twice as thick as they would be otherwise. Laminated shingles have a thicker, three-di-mensional appearance that makes it look more attractive than standard shingles. E.g.: Series Continent,

Western, Jazz, Country, Rancho. Material is light and easy to install and what is more important a war-ranty period is up to 60 years.

Collection of SHINGLAS fl exible shingle features a variety of shapes and colors. It allows designers to give any ensemble a magnifi cent architectural expression. For everyone who dreams of owning a beau-tiful house SHINGLAS helps to realize your innermost dreams. Technology of the bitumen tiles SHINGLAS is designed to meet all temperature, snow and wind loads in all climates.

Basalt covering, is used as the upper pro-tective layer of the material and has the following properties:

Natural stone is volcanic basalt; Protection from harmful sunlight and UV rays;

Protects roof covering from the impact of precipitation;

Prevents mechanical stress; Gives the roof color and texture.

The material has low heat conductiv-ity, therefore, under the roof of shingles is warm in winter and comfortable in summer. There are many types of bitumen tiles SHINGLAS, including it is different to the number of layers. Each type of covering has its own advantages.

Advantages of single layer shingles: Basalt coating stronger than steel – on the hardness scale the Mohs hardness of basalt is 7 units;

Natural basalt does not contain iron therefore not subject to corrosion;

Is suitable for all pitched roofs, includ-ing with complex geometry;

Rich color palette has been copied from the best painters and nature;

Natural basalt is not combustible, so basalt covering protects the house against the spread of fi re from neigh-bouring buildings through the roof.

Laminated shingles has all the advantages of single layer, increasing performance depending on the number of layers!

Each new layer is a new level of reliabil-ity in the protection against mechanical damage, leaks, wind;

Warranty up to 60 years; covering is made of natural Karelian ba-salt, extracted from an ancient volcano Girvas;

Basalt does not fade under UV light; Three-dimensional color - with each new layer pattern becomes 3D-effect;

Roof gets a special relief by shingles laminating.

INSTALLATION OF SHINGLAS

PREPARATION OF THE ROOFING DECK

When laying bitumen tiles over a wooden roof structure or structures of other types, the rafter span varies between 600 and 1500 mm depending on permanent and tempo-rary loads, as well as on the roof shape. Depending on the rafter span, a solid wooden deck of various thicknesses is used: waterproof plywood or Oriented Strand Boards (OSB-3), matchboards or trim boards (relative humidity not exceeding 20%). Board thickness – not exceeding 150 mm.When using trimmed board as laths, their maximum permissible span should not exceed 5 mm. When using plywood or OSB-3 boards as the deck, 3 mm spacing between the sheets should be left to counterbalance linear expansion in the summer time. The boards should be installed in a chess pattern, securing the edges with barbed or spiralshank nails.

WATERPROOFING UNDERLAYMENT

Additional underlayment under bitumen tiles SHINGLAS should be fi tted over the entire slope at any pitch of the roof.Self-adhesive waterproofi ng underlayment UNDERLAY PRO 500 or other material with the same characteristics should be fi tted along slope valleys and cornice eaves.Fasten the edge of self-adhesive underlayment at 0.5–2 cm from the outer edge of the eave drip. In a valley area it is laid at 1 m width (50 cm on each slope), at a cornice – lengthwise along the whole eave, at 2–3 cm from the edge and additionally a 60 cm distance from the fa-cade plane upwards. Lengthwise waterproofi ng is required for preven-tion of leakage in the cornice areas resulted from ice dams. Seamless val-ley is recommended, but if seams cannot be avoided, then overlapping areas of the valley membrane should not be less than 30 cm and must be glued especially tightly.Mechanically fi tted underlayment UNDERLAY PRO 500 or other material with the same characteristics can be applied over the rest of the slope, laying it from the bottom upwards, overlapping diagonally 100 mm and lengthwise 150 mm, moving the roll parallel along the cornice. The underlayment is nailed to the deck every 200–250 mm with special galvanized wide-head nails. The bitumenmastic No. 23 (FIXER) is applied over overlapping areas in strips with the width of 8–10 cm.

INSTALLATION OF EAVES AND SLOPE EDGES

Slope edges are reinforced with metal slope edges and eave drips, the latter are nailed to the waterproofi ng underlayment with a 30–50 mm overlapping, with special nails (span 120–150 mm, and overlapping areas – every 20–30 mm).When installing the eaves, water drips are nailed to OSB board, water-proof plywood or a deck of boards with a 30–50 mm overlap-ping, with special nails (span 120–150 mm, and overlapping areas – every 20–30 mm).Self-adhesive waterproofi ng underlayment along the eaves is laid over the water drip.

INSTALLATION OF A ROOF VALLEY

A roof valley can be installed in two ways: open and closed.

Open methodBitumen valley membrane is laid lengthwise over the bitumen underlay-ment UNDERLAY PRO 500 or other material with the same characteristicsalong the roof valley axis beginning 2–3 cm from the edge of the un-derlayment. Nails are fastened at a distance of 2–3 cm from the edge, every 20–25 cm; apply the bitumen mastic No. 23 (FIXER) on the bot-tom part of the valley membrane prior to nailing along entire perimeter lengthwise within a 10 cm strip.Seamless valley valley membrane is recommended, but if seams cannot be avoided, then overlapping areas of the valley membrane should notbe less than 30 cm and must be glued especially tightly. Joints shall be made in the upper part of the roof valley.

Closed methodIf this method is applied to install a roof valley, bitumen valley membrane is not used (see section: Installation of a closed roof valley).

FASTENING OF SHINGLES

Nail every shingle to the roof deck with wide-head galvanized nails; the number of nails depends on the size of the slope. Correct nail-ing is extremely important – it should be done in such a way that a nail head is driven straight and fl ush with the shingle surface, but not driven too low. Nails should be nailed at a distance of 2–3 cm from the edge of shingle. The position of the bottom layer is shown by a dotted line. When installing shingles series CONTINENT, nails should be 45 mm-long.

STARTER ROW (HIP-RIDGE SHINGLE)

The starter row is laid using universal hip-ridge shingles or regular shingles, having cut off their tabs. These shingles are nailed to adhesive waterproofi ng underlayment. When installing shingles series CONTINENT, JAZZ, COUNTRY and RANCHO, regular shingles are used for a starter row without cutting the tabs off.

FIRST ROW OF SHINGLES AND FURTHER LAYING

If the slope is long, it is recommended to start laying the fi rst row from the middle of the slope, at 0.5-2 cm from the ridge-hip tile. The distance from the edge of the drip depends on the length and angle of the slope, i.e. the steeper and longer the slope, the bigger the distance from the edge.

The second row is laid above the fi rst one, shifting a shingle by a half of shingle sheet to the left or to the right, aligning the shingles according to upper part of the cutouts of the fi rst row shingles. The third and the next rows are laid over the second one shifting shingles by a half of shingle sheet to the left or to the right. The same pattern applies to installing the entire roofi ng.

To ensure maximum protection of the roof from cross rain, apply the bitumen mastic No. 23 (FIXER) within a 10 cm strip on the bottom side of the edge shingle. Cut the up-per corners (2–3 cm) of the edge shingles abutting the metal edge of the eave.

STONE WOOL

Stone wool is made from the charge gab-bro-basaltic stones with the addition of sedimentary of low acidity. Supplements are necessary to provide the desired plug-acidity, melting point and obtain a melt with the desired fl ow characteristics. For production use rocks of gabbro-basalt type and their analogs, sedimentary rocks, volcanic slag, industrial waste, in-cluding crushed blast furnace slag.

Technological processes are automated and strict quality control is implemented in all stages of production, from raw materials to fi nished product testing. It ensures stability of product properties. Ready-to-use products are safely pack-aged into a shrink fi lm.

A pallet with products is wrapped using stretch-hood technology, which reduces transportation and labor costs because of higher handling speed. But most im-portantly, this type of packaging does not get damaged when products are stored on the ground or in a construction site; the product does not lose its physical and mechanical properties in such storage conditions.

The quality management system of TechnoNICOL stonewool production is certifi ed according to ISO 9001:2000.The implementation of this certifi cation ensures effective company manage-ment in general as well as the output of products with stable qualitative charac-teristics that meet the requirements of the international markets and customer expectations.

The system of ecological management at all stone wool producing plants is certifi ed according to one more international stan-dard - ISO 14001:2004. The document is issued by a German certifying body - Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH.This certifi cate confi rms that all the stages of managerial and production processes comply with the highest international re-quirements of environmental regulations.

Control of these processes guarantees thereduction of negative impacts upon the environment as well as waste reclamation and broke disposal, which, in turn, im-proves our environmental performance.

Stone wool is a highly effective insulating material. By heat effi ciency, it is ready to compete with the reference insulator – air in a stationary state. High resistance to heat transfer is achieved by retaining a large amount of air in a stationary state within the insulation using closely intertwined the fi nest fi bers of mineral wool.

TECHNONICOL heat insulation based on stone wool is popular because of its technical and perfor-mance advantages, created during the production stage. Competitive price, uncompromising quality and numerous operational advantages made TECHNONICOL basalt-based non-fl ammable insulation to be the best choice for our customers.

The use of thermal insulation materials is an obligatory stage of many construction and repair processes. Wide range of TECHNONICOL stone wool production is divided by area of applica-tion and allows the use of products in both civil and private housebuilding. The product range includes insulation for plaster and ventilated facades, pitched and fl at roofs, fl oors, walls, etc.

Standard slabs of stone wool are used for heat- and acoustic insulation.

Slabs with grooves are used for a heat-insulation of fl at roofs with the organiza-tion of system of ventilated channels.

Slabs with a rough surface are used to in-crease adhesion to the protective layer of plaster in the heat insulation of facades.

Slabs “slope” shaped are used to install the slope on the fl at roof, to drain the wa-ter on the roof to the funnels.

Heat insulation materials

STONE WOOL

Long experience, modern equipment, continuous technology perfection and innovations made by the proprietary Research Center allow TechnoNICOL to manufacture stone wool products of stable high quality.

EFFECTIVE HEAT INSULATION

TECHNONICOL stone wool is a high-effi -ciency heat insulation material. High re-sistance to heat transmission is achieved because the fi nest intertwined mineral wool fi bers retain a large amount of air inside the material.

FIRE SAFETY

The main raw material of stone wool products is gabbro-basalt rocks. Thanks to this, all TECHNONICOL products are non-fl ammable. The fi ber melting tem-perature exceeds 1000°C, which makes itpossible to use the stone wool products in a wide range of working temperatures.

DIMENSIONAL STABILITY

High mechanical stress resistance of TECHNONICOL materials is ensured by the fi ber properties and stone wool struc-ture. These parameters are set individually for each type of material, depending on the heat insulation’s intended use.

VAPOR PERMEABILITY

Vapor permeability of TECHNONICOL stone wool is high, materials do not retain the moisture coming from the premises in the form of vapor created by human ac-tivities. The heat insulation remains dry practically always.

POWERFUL SOUND ABSORPTION

The fi brous structure of stone wool products secures excellent acoustic and sound-absorbing properties of the mate-rial. TECHNONICOL products have high sound-absorbing ratios in the broad range of frequencies, which decreases the level of airborne and impact noise in various sound-insulating structures: par-titions, fl oors and others.

WATER REPELLENCY

All TECHNONICOL heat insulation materi-als based on stone wool are treated with water-repelling agents that give water-repellent properties to the insulation.The presence of moisture in the insulation affects its heat properties, term of service and the indoor climate. If a heat insulation damp, usually, the it needs to be replaced.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE

TECHNONICOL products are manufac-tured of basalt stone. Natural minerals of this group are notable for their high chemical resistance to various substances:oils, solvents, paints, acidic and alkaline. Stone wool can be safely used together with any types of construction materi-als as well as corrosive fi lters in many branches of chemical industry.

BIOSTABILITY

TECHNONICOL products fully meet the biological stability criteria, which was proved with numerous tests and trials as well as with the fi eld data.Stone wool canoffset the effect of various macro- and microorganisms: the material does not provide conditions for the vitalactivity of bacteria, mold, fungi, and is not attractive as an environment for in-sects and rodents.

ECOLOGICAL COMPATIBILITY

Environment safety is one of priorities and a goal of innovations. The company’s plants reuse the production waste. Being one of the major European mineral wool producers, TechnoNICOL constantly improves its products and services, using modern equipment and implementing eco-friendly technologies.

All the products comply with sanitary and environmental standards, are safe for hu-man health and nature, passed the com-plete cycle of certifi cation, both obliga-tory and optional.

Metallic anchor is a metallic anchor element, the structural basis of which is a specially rolled gal-vanized steel sheet that forms a spring in the cross section. The anchor can sustain a load due to frictional forces generated as a result of straightening the springs in the base material and partial surface pressure along the anchor rod.

Metallic roundel is a galvanized metal washer that is placed on a metal roundel to increase the area of the cap anchor, thereby more evenly distributing the mechanical load on the fi re-resistant slab.

Fasteners are produced from low-pressure polyethylene. The fastener is a stud with teeth for fi xing in the material and a fl at platform with an adhesive layer which is protected by an easily removable fi lm.

Fasteners are used for temporally fi xation of slabs made of extruded polystyrene or for dimpled membranes to various surfaces, including to bitumen or polymer-bitumen waterproofi ng in foundation insulation systems.
