Why You Should Attend

Are your performance and productivity levels of operations as high as you want them to be? Have you really reviewed them with your staff to see what improvement might be made? This workshop is designed to help you examine and evaluate your agency’s current management policies and procedures. You’ll learn how to target the problem areas, identify opportunities, and improve overall effectiveness of any public works operation. If you’re already using the Manual to prepare for Accreditation, the new format will give you “hands-on” training.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for public works directors, managers, supervisors, and Accreditation managers, as well as municipal administrators performing public works functions.

Course Materials

Each participant will receive a packet of course materials developed specifically for this program. The packet will include outlines of the individual presentations.

Required Text

Public Works Management Practices Manual, Fourth Edition details uniform practices and procedures for all public works services. Developed by APWA, this text provides the basis for an effective self assessment program. The manual is essential for full participation in the workshop and MUST BE PURCHASED prior to attending the workshop from the on-line APWA catalog at www.apwa.net. A companion software program is available to assist in tracking an agency’s progress during the self assessment phase and for accreditation.

Continuing Education Units

Each participant who attends all sessions of the workshop will receive 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are nationally recognized units of achievement which may be used as evidence of increased performance capabilities and for job advancement.

Certificates

You will be eligible for a certificate of participation by APWA upon completion of all sessions of the workshop. CEU’s earned will be noted on the certificate.

Workshop Faculty

The workshop will be led by Ann Daniels, Director of Technical Services Department, American Public Works Association, Kansas City, Missouri, and one or more of the following practitioners:
