Judy Smith’s father-in-law Elton Smith recently passed away.

Past member Jeanne Buck has passed away. A card was sent to her hus-band. Jeanne had a serious stroke 19 months ago so she was not a current member, but we wanted to let our membership know.

“If you know of a member who could use a little sunshine, let us know. We appreciate your referrals.”

Send a Little Sunshine

Calling all Newcomers. After a much-needed summer break, we will return for a new year 2019-2020 packed with some new and exciting activi-ties. Our first general meeting pro-gram will be September 25th. Presi-dent Joe Cosca of the Redding Senior Center says, “My presentation will knock your socks off!”

Did you know the Senior Center of-fers many activities and classes, such as games, crafts, dancing, & billiards for age 50+ at a low cost? Mark your calendars and join the fun. You might like it. I'm looking forward to seeing you all in September.

Yours Truly, Vicki B 2nd Vice President

by Carol Whitney

“My husband want-ed to go out with a bang so I put fire-works in his pockets before he was cre-mated.”

Dear Newcomers: I want to thank all you wonderful ladies for the flowers, gifts, cards, telephone calls, and best of all, the visits to me here at Copper Ridge. Words simply cannot explain how these signs of your friendship have boosted my spirits and given me the strength to get through these days of recovery. I will never forget your thoughtfulness and your prayers for my recovery. I am looking forward to being up and around again and enjoy-ing your company. Arlene Hascall

National Girl-

friends Day

2019 On August 1, we celebrate National Girlfriends Day, a

day to thank the female friends who

help us keep it all together. Whether

it’s a girl squad of one or a sisterhood of many, these ladies make life bright-er, fuller, and complete. Today let your gal pals know just how much they mean to you – this one’s for the girls! National Relaxation Day

National Relaxation Day is ob-served annually on August 15th.

It is National Relaxation

Day is an important day as we all need a break from the fast-paced and often hectic lifestyles we live. Taking time to recuper-ate and rejuvenate our tired minds and bodies may help pre-

vent many health risks. Like the founder of this day suggested, too much work can make us sick, run down, tired, and that’s just wrong. Sean Moeller found-ed National Relaxation Day in

1985 as a fourth-grader. In an interview with Valerie Monson

in The Des Moines Register, Sean

suggested people shouldn’t do anything of real value. Cleaning and real work are not part of relaxation.

True friends are like

diamonds: bright, beautiful,

valuable, & always in style.

Strength of character, moral integrity, remembrance,

infatuation, & honor. These

long-lasting blooms are variously colored,

ranging from pink to reddish or light purple with white, contrasting mark-ings, or white to cream or orange to red. There are 260 species of Gladiolus common in Southern Africa & 76 spe-cies in tropical Africa. About ten spe-cies are native to Eurasia.

Carol Letts is updating The Compassionate Chauffeur list for 2019-2020. If you would like to be included as a new driver on the list this year, send Carol an email with your information as requested by using the form below so she can add all your information, or drop it in the mail to:

3899 Andes Drive Redding 96001

If you need to be removed as a driver from last year’s list, email [email protected] or call Carol at 605.3830 as well.

The new list will come out with our roster in October 2019.

Carol has received a lot of positive feedback from the ladies who are us-ing this service and also from the vol-unteers. New friendships have been made because our volunteers are will-ing to help a Newcomer who has no family living in Redding.

Carol heard a Newcomer called a taxi, costing $800, to get to and from UC Davis Medical Center for a medical procedure. That is unnecessary when we have Compassionate Chauffeur Volunteers.

Please remember to refer to the list to find someone willing to drive you to your medical appointments.
