Generic Zantac for Treatment of Duodenal and Gastric Ulcers


Generic Zantac (Zinetac Tablets) is used in treatment of peptic ulcers (gastric and duodenal ulcers), reflux oesophagitis (reflux disease), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and scleroderma oesophagitis and to prevent duodenal ulcers and reflux disease from recurring.


Generic Zantac (Zinetac Tablets) is available in strengths of 150 mg and 300 mg.Each Generic Zantac 150 Tablet for oral administration contains 168 mg of Ranitidine HCl equivalent to 150 mg of Ranitidine.


Chemical Structure


The active pharmaceutical ingredient present in Generic Zantac Tablets is Ranitidine Hydrochloride. Ranitidine Hydrochloride is a white to pale yellow, granular substance that is soluble in water.

Active Ingredient


Generic Zantac Tablets are used for the treatment of duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer. Ranitidine HCl Tablets are also used for the: Treatment of post-operative ulcerSymptom relief in gastro-oesophageal reflux diseaseTreatment of oesophageal reflux disease

Indications


Treatment of duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.Prevention of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (including aspirin) associated duodenal ulcers in patients with a history of duodenal ulceration proven by endoscopy.

Indications


Treatment of chronic episodic dyspepsia, characterised by pain (epigastric or retrosternal) which is related to meals or disturbs sleep but not associated with the above conditions.Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Generic Zantac (Zinetac Tablets) are also indicated for the following conditions wherereduction of gastric secretion and acid output is desirable:The prevention of upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients.The prevention of recurrent haemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcers.

Indications


Before general anaesthesia in patients considered to be at risk of acid aspiration (Mendelson's syndrome), particularly obstetric patients during labour.

Active Duodenal Ulcer: The recommended adult oral dosage of Generic Zantac for duodenal ulcer is 150 mg twice daily.

Maintenance of Healing of Duodenal Ulcers:

The current recommended adult oral dosage is 150 mg at bedtime.

Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions (such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome):The current recommended adult oral dosage is 150 mg twice daily.

Benign Gastric Ulcer:

The current recommended adult oral dosage is 150 mg twice daily.

Maintenance of Healing of Gastric Ulcers:The current recommended adult oral dosage is 150 mg at bedtime.

GERD: The current recommended adult oral dosage is 150 mg twice daily.

Erosive Esophagitis:

The current recommended adult oral dosage is 150 mg or 10 mL of syrup 4 times daily.

Maintenance of Healing of Erosive Esophagitis:

The current recommended adult oral dosage is 150 mg twice daily.

Recommended Adult Dosage

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you remember when it is almost time for your next dose, take only your usual dose at that time.

Contraindications

Generic Zantac Tablets are contraindicated in the following cases:

Known hypersensitivity to Ranitidine Hydrochloride or any inactive ingredients of this medication.

Side Effects of Generic Zantac Tablets

Headache, malaise, dizziness, somnolence, insomnia, and vertigo. Rare cases of reversible mental confusion, agitation, depression, and hallucinations have been reported.Rare reports of arrhythmias such as tachycardia, bradycardia, atrioventricular block, and premature ventricular beats.

Side Effects of Generic Zantac Tablets

Constipation, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, abdominal discomfort/pain, and rare reports of pancreatitis.Occasional reports of hepatocellular, cholestatic, or mixed hepatitis, with or without jaundice.Rare reports of arthralgias and myalgias.

Side Effects of Generic Zantac Tablets

Blood count changes (leukopenia, granulocytopenia, and thrombocytopenia) have occurred in a few patients.Rare cases of breast symptoms and conditions, including galactorrhea and gynecomastia, have been reported in both males and females.

Side Effects of Generic Zantac Tablets

Rare cases of hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., bronchospasm, fever, rash, eosinophilia), anaphylaxis, angioneurotic edema, acute interstitial nephritis, and small increases in serum creatinine.

Warnings And Precautions

Symptomatic response to therapy with Generic Zantac does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy.

Since Generic Zantac is excreted primarily by the kidney, dosage should be adjusted in patients with impaired renal function. Caution should be observed in patients with hepatic dysfunction since Zantac is metabolized in the liver.

Rare reports suggest that Generic Zantac may precipitate acute porphyric attacks in patients with acute porphyria. Zinetac tablets should therefore be avoided in patients with a history of acute porphyria.

Overdosage Symptoms

Acute ingestions of up to 18 g of Zantac orally have been associated with transient adverse effects similar to those encountered in normal clinical experience. In addition, abnormalities of gait and hypotension have been reported.

Overdose Treatment

Should Zantac overdose occur, the usual measures to remove unabsorbed material from the gastrointestinal tract, clinical monitoring, and supportive therapy should be employed.

Storage Instructions

Store between 15 and 30C (59 and 86F) in a dry place. Protect from light. Keep away from children and pets.
