2. Pop is an abbreviation for Popular Music and generally defines a wide variety of songs that rise onto the public Hit Chart and played often on radio stations such as BBC Radio 1. Pop Music originated in its current form in the 1950s and derived from Rock and Roll. What makes the Pop genre unique is that it includes all varieties of music regardless of the style although the primary genre usually possess mass public appeal. 3. The Beatles The Rolling Stones ABBAThese bands were the first bands to be classified as being within the Pop genre because of the influence they had on youth culture in Britain at the time that Pop became a recognised genre. 4. SincePop has become a well-recognised genre, it has developed by absorbing the different aspects of genres that have been the trend of public appeal at different periods of time such as: Jazz, Soul, country and Rock and Roll. The Pop Genre gained a massive spike in promotion when music television music stations such as MTV which featured Artists such as Michael Jackson and Madonna whom are well-known pop icons. 6. The Beatles: The Beatles were an English Rock bandformed in 1970 which included the line-up ofPaul McCartney, John Lennon, GeorgeHarrison and Ringo Starr, they are the mostsuccessful and critically-acclaimed artist inthe history of Pop Music. 7. The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in Londonin 1962 and one of the most commercially successful andcritically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music.[1][2]The groups earliest line-up consisted of Brian Jones (guitar,harmonica), Ian Stewart (piano), Mick Jagger (lead vocals,harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar, vocals), Bill Wyman (bassist)and Charlie Watts (drummer). Because Pop music can include any genre that the musicindustry has to offer, there is no set instruments that definethe genre as a whole, however, the general trend suggests thatmost Pop bands consist of at least a Lead Vocalist and LeadGuitarist as a part of the group. 9. Sir Michael Philip "Mick" Jagger is the lead vocalist for The RollingStones one of the most commercially successful and criticallyacclaimed acts in the history of popular music and has becomesomewhat of a cultural icon after being a counter-culture figurefor openly admitting his use of drugs. His distinctive voice andperformance style has left him regarded as one of the mostcritically-acclaimed vocalists in the history of pop music. 10. James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix;November 27, 1942 September 18, 1970) was an Americanmusician and singer-songwriter. He is widely considered to be thegreatest electric guitarist in music history and one of the mostinfluential musicians of his era despite mainstream exposurelimited to just three years. After initial success in Europe with hisgroup The Jimi Hendrix Experience, he achieved fame in theUnited States following his 1967 performance at the Monterey PopFestival. Later, he headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festivaland the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. Raymond Daniel Manczarek, Jr. was the keyboardist for AmericanRockband The Doors, Manczarek used synthesized tones on hiskeyboard to create a psychadelic rock affect when playing a song. Hewas a founding member of The Doors right up until the band broke up in1973, Manczarek has since been assosciated with other musical acts. 12. David Eric "Dave" Grohl (born January 14,1969) is an American rock musician, multi-instrumentalist, and singer-songwriter,who is the lead vocalist, guitarist, primarysongwriter and founder of the FooFighters, prior to which he was thedrummer in the grunge band Nirvana. Heis also the drummer and co-founder of therock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.Grohl has additionally written all themusic and performed all the instrumentsfor his short-lived side projects Late! andProbot, as well as being involved withQueens of the Stone Age numerous timesthroughout the past decade.
