Earth from space, aerial photographs and landscape photographs as sources of inspiration for art-based textiles to display during Geofest 2017, along with workshops and

demonstrations for the visiting public.

Sunday 2nd & Thursday 27th July, and Thursday 10th August: Rock & Fossil Hunt

Join the rangers and local experts from ‘Geologists in the Geopark’ and try to find your own carboniferous fossil!

This family friendly 2 hour session starts at the visitor centre with a brief introduction to the fascinating geology of the park and what you might expect to find during the fossil hunt.

‘Geologists in the Geopark’ will be on hand to share their knowledge as you dig in to an exposed area of coal spoil to see what you can discover. At the end of the session, return to the visitor centre to examine your finds under a microscope.

The fossils can be found on the surface or just underneath it so please bring a small trowel and a plastic tub with you to aid your fossil hunting. You will be able to take home your finds along with an identification sheet.

Samples from the Abberley and Malvern Hills Geopark Textiles Projects, including the Textile Geology Map of the Geopark and the volcano wall hanging will be on display for inspiration. Activities for children include: Stencilling and printing fossil shapes on paper and fabric / Marbling with shaving foam on paper and card / Making a card model of an Icelandic volcano (from the British Geological Survey).
