Geology

Regional

The property lies within the Archean supercrustal rocks of the Schreiber l Hemlo greenstone belt ( map 2).

Milne (1967) reports that:

" The bedrock is all of Precambrian age, but thick unconsolidated varved clays and silty sands of the Pleistocene and Recent age are found along the major drainage valleys. The Precambrian rocks consist of acid and basic metavolcanics and minor metasedimentary units, intruded by serpentine, granite, diabase, gabbro and alkalic gabbro and syenite. The age sequence of the intrusive rocks has not been absolutely established. There is some doubt as to wheather the diabase is older or younger than the alkalic intrusions and also doubt as to the position of the serpentine in the sequence. Rubidium - strontium age determinations on granite in the general area of the alkalic syenite gave ages of 2,300 million years and 1225 million years, respectively. Copper - Nickel and Asbestos mineralization are associated with the serpentine, and Copper and Iron mineralization with the alkalic gabbro."

Local

As mapped by Milne (1967): Basic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, post - tectonic granitic rocks consisting of hornblende quartz monzonite and older ? Ultrabasic rocks consisting of serpentine.

The 1999 summer program revealed the following geology (See map in back envelope):

1a Mafic Volcanics.

The majority of the Smoke Lake, Bond Lake, Budall Lake and Roccian Lake areas are underlain by mafic volcanics.

2a Intermediate Volcanics.

There is a unit of intermediate volcanics approx. 300 m wide in the marsh area starting about 150 m east of Smoke Lake. This intermediate unit consists of very highly silicified rocks. Small quartz veins are abundant. No significant mineralization was found within this unit although a quartz l feldspar unit with py was located on the eastern edge.

8a Quartz Monzonite.

A quartz monzonite intrusion, intrudes the mafic volcanics approx. 600m north of Smoke Lake. This intrusion is 4km long and extends from the west side of Roccian Lake to a small lake 1,500m NE of Smoke Lake. The majority of this intrusion along the sothern contact with the mafic volcanics is a white colored quartz monzonite with very little hornblende. No mineralization was evident in prospecting traverses.

8b Altered Syenite.

Along the contact of the quartz monzonite intrusion and the mafic volcanics north of Bond Lake there is a unit of altered pink-red, fine grained, altered syenite. Typically it is altered by quan^ calcite and fine grained pyrite (less than 1 07o) and minor, barren quartz veinlets. This unit typically occurs between the white quartz monzonite and the mafic volcanics to the south. A narrow unit of this rock type is also found on the south shore of Roccian Lake between potassium altered ( pink) monzonite and the quartz (white) monzonite. A sample taken from North of Bond Lake assayed 1gpt. Gold.

Numerous floats of this altered syenite were also located around the marsh east of Smoke Lake and west of Bond Lake. One sample of the altered syenite float assayed 3.9 gpt gold. A barren smoky quartz vein separated from the same syenite float assayed 21.05 gpt gold. The location of these floats could not be found but it is assumed it came from the contact area to the north and north-east were similar rocks are found.

8c Pink ( potassium altered??) Quartz Monzonite.

Along the contact just north of the eastern soil grid the monzonite has a pinkish color. This pink colored quartz monzonite can also be seen along

the contact just north of Bond Lake , East of the beaver marsh north of bond lake and along the western contact near the "Dog Leg" area NE of Moosehorn Lake and again along the southern shore of Roccian Lake. This pink monzonite typically has minor hornblende and pyrite (less than 5070 ).

9a Gabbro.

A unit of gabbro was located aprox. 200m north of the claim posts of claims 1232461 and 1232129. And again approx. 200 m east of the western claim line of claim 1232457, NE of Moosehorn Lake near the "Dogleg" area. Minor (less than 1 07o) pyrite is present.

Alteration.

Carbonate.

Carbonate alteration is evident in all lithological rock types except the white quartz monzonite. A large quartz carbonate vein 2m wide was located about 50m upstream in the creek bed on the eastern shore of Smoke Lake. This qtz/carb vein weathers a reddish color and has minor (less than 1 07o) pyrite. Some sections are micro brecciated and contain small phenocrysts of quartz. These micro brecciated units are also more heavily pyritized (1007o). The unit strikes along the creek and is probably related to a fault system. It dips north west under the creek and heavy overburden. This qtz/carb vein is approx. 130m east of the original Au float on the eastern shore of Smoke Lake and may be related to it.The same unit can be traced upstream and is evident again 150m upstream. It can be found again further upstream within the intermediate volcanics at the old beaver dam approx. 300 m from Smoke Lake. At this point it is only several inches wide.

Quartz Veins

Numerous quartz veins are found throughout the study area and are plotted on the map in the back envelope. Several large veins were found south of Bond Lake and again south of Smoke Lake east of the beaver dam. Most contain varying amounts of pyrite. Quartz veins are also typically found with the Iron Formations throughout the area.

The only quartz vein in place which gave significant Au values was a 15cmwide vein approx. 175 m NE of Budall Lake. This quartz vein did not containany visible sulphides but was hematite stained in places. A sample of thevein with hematite staining gave a gold value of 3.02 gpt. No other quartzveins in place gave significant gold values.Quartz floats obtained from the Au trench on the east shore of Smoke Lakeyielded values up to 34.15 gpt gold. These quartz floats were hematitestained, contained small cubic pyrite and sometimes visible gold.As indicated above a 15cm smoky quartz vein separated from an alteredsyenite float gave a value of 21.05 gpt gold.

Iron Formations and Banded Iron Formations

Iron Formations are numerous throughout the Smoke Lake l Budall Lake area. These IF's typically run in an east-west direction in the Smoke Lake area and in a NE/SW direction in the Budall Lake l Moosehorn Lake area. This suggests a possible fold somewhere in the Moosehorn l Dogleg area although no major folding was observed. The IF's and BIF's typically give anomalous Copper and Zinc values and are usually associated with quartz veins and chert. Minor folding is evident in many.

Faulting

A fault runs in a north l south direction through Smoke Lake north to Beggs Lake and south to another lake and to the Page Lake area. An east - west fault runs west to Budall Lake, through Smoke Lake then east to Bond Lake.

5ECT/OM 3

Work Done

A camp was set up on the point on the north side of Smoke Lake. Gear was flown in by helicopter. A total of 11 days were spent on the initial trip. Follow up trips were made on a day basis except for 1 over night trip. A canoe was used to travel around Smoke Lake and this saved a lot of time and energy in prospecting and soil sampling.

Prospecting.

Prospecting was done using the traverse method. Where possible a compass traverse and hip chain were used to determine location as well as a topo map. Due to the values encountered in quartz veins and altered syenite an effort was made to locate these rock types. Thick bush and heavy overburden made prospecting difficult north of Smoke Lake and Bond Lake and along the Monzonite l Volcanic contact. Sample locations were marked using blaze orange flagging tape. In all 18 man days were spent doing manual prospecting.

Stripping, Blasting and Trenching

Stripping and Trenching was done by hand using tools and magna packs over showings. 14 man days were spent stripping, blasting and trenching. A total of 5 stripped l trenched areas were done (see map in back envelope).

Soil Sampling

Soil sampling was done using a map grid and compass and hip chain. No lines were cut, but north l south lines and stations were marked using blaze orange flagging tape. Sample stations were marked with blue flagging tape. 4 man days were spent doing soil sampling. Kraft sample bags were used to contain the sample and each sample was marked as to line and station.

Assays

All assays were sent to Chemex Labs Ltd. in Vancouver for analysis. One sample was tested by the resident geologist. 98 rock samples were assayed and 49 soil samples.

July 14 - Area # l, Smoke Lake Area. Day 9. Did more trenching on qtz l carb showing. Prospected along creek again. Found another Qtz/carb showing approx. 200m upstream. Appears to be the on-strike continuation of the other Qtz/carb showing. Followed creek all the way up to old beaver dam. About halfway rocks appear to be Intermediate Volcanics. Dune, Jeff.

July 15 - Area # l, Smoke Lake Area. Day 10. Ran a transect SE from malachiteshowing south of creek mouth at Smoke Lake. Came across qtz veins and IF. Alsocame across a qtz vein swarm but could not take a sample as rock was too flat. Didnot appear to be any PY anyway.Prospected south to lake immediately south of Smoke Lake. All mafic volcanics.Did not see anythig interesting.Dune, Jeff.

July 16 - Area # l, Smoke Lake Area. Day 11. Prospected around the west side of Smoke Lake. IF on north side with a Qtz vein and PY. Folded BIF on south side with qtz veins and magnetite. Flew out in the evening. Dune, Jeff.

Aug 14 - Area # l, Smoke Lake Area. Flew into Moosehorn Lake Area. Prospectedup to the "Dogleg" magnetics area. If and qtz porphory.Prospected south and east towards Smoke Lake. Interesting looking qtz float withfuschite. Don't know where it came from.Prospected west towards Budall Lake. 6" qtz vein with hematite. BIF with massivesulphides on west shore of Moosehorn Lake.Dune, Jeff.

Aug 21 - Area # l , Smoke Lake Area. Flew into Smoke Lake and stayed overnight. Prospected around the marsh east of Smoke Lake to determine if there are any more high grade Au floats. Found more of the same sheared syenite floats NE of the original find. Found a QFP on the east side of the marsh. Also Stan came up with a large quartz vein with sulphides and some hematite. Russ came up with more syenite floats south of the original "marsh" float. Dune, Stan, Russ.

Aug 22 - Area # l, Smoke lake Area. Went back to the large qtz vein. Stripped, trenched and blasted it. About 30 ft long and approx 2' wide. Striking NE/SW. Water in lake was down from first trip so we sampled Mark Smyk's Au showing. Blasted a couple of the qtz veins. Seems to be a stockwork of veins rather than just one. Other qtz veins could be seen out in the lake. Flew out in afternoon. Dune, Stan, Russ.

Sept 11- Area # l, Smoke Lake Area. Flew back into Bond Lake. Prospected north of Bond Lake and Peter Moses' property near contact of monzonite and volcanics to try to determine where the high grade syenite float is coming from. Syenite found along contact. Dune, Stan.

Oct 21 - Area # l, Smoke Lake Area. Flew into Roccian Lake to test the NW side of the monzonite contact. Stripped, blasted and trenched a showing on south shore of Roccian that appears to be similar to the syenite at Bond Lake. Pete prospected south to the "Dogleg" area. Dune, Jeff, Stan, Pete.

Nov 7 - Area # l, Smoke Lake Area. Flew into Moosehorn Lake. Prospected NE to "Dogleg" area. Tried to determine cause of the high magnetics near the contact of the monzonite and mafics. Found a sheared, folded, chloritic qtz vein, no P Y. Found some pink syenitic looking rock at contact. Dune, Jeff.

Results

Prospecting and Trenching.

98 rock samples were taken.

A syenite float was uncovered by Russ Renner in the south - east corner of the small marsh east of Smoke Lake and west of Bond Lake. This boulder was approx. 50 cm across. The boulder consisted of sheared syenite, highly carbonated with dark, smoky quartz veinlets and a 15 cm smoky quartz vein. The boulder was busted up and the 2 separate rock types assayed separately eg. Syenite assayed separately from the quartz to determine what rock type was carrying the gold. The sheared syenite host rock assayed 3.9 gpt gold (sample 287886). The smoky quartz vein assayed 21.05 gpt gold (sample 287887). Several follow up trips were made to determine where the float came from. Numerous other syenite floats were found to the immediate south of the original find and several to the north east. None of these gave significant values. Another follow up trip to the area NE of the Au float at the contact revealed that there is an altered syenite zone between the quartz monzonite and the mafic volcanics. A grab sample of this altered syenite from the area near the corner posts of claim 1232129 and 1232461 gave a value of 1 gpt (sample 99-BDM-01 ). Other samples in this area gave values of 550ppb, 290ppb and 10Oppb. Peter Moses (pers. comm.) indicated that he obtained anomalous gold values up to 2.5 gpt from the contact area in similar lithology on his property just to the east in claim 1232129. It is therefore postulated that the high grade syenite l smoky quartz float originated from the contact area north, north-east and/or north-west of Bond Lake. Magnetic maps obtained from Battle Mountain Gold also indicate 2 strong magnetic areas along the contact in that area. The syenite float is slightly magnetic. Although the origin of the float was not found evidence found to date points towards the contact area.

Abundant Quartz float found in the Au trench on the east shore of Smoke Lake gave values up to 34.15 gpt gold (sample 287906). The quartz floats that give Au values are bullish looking quartz with pyrite, hematite and plus or minus visible gold. Trenching did not expose bedrock as the overburden is too thick. However, some quartz samples in the trench have bits of parent material which appear to be sheared mafic volcanics. It is still not known if

this is local or came from up ice. Soil sampling on a small grid over this area at 10m intervals indicated an anomalous Au area which corresponds to Kevin Thompson's earlier soil sampling. This anomalous area is covered with heavy overburden and is difficult to prospect. Therefore the origin of the abundant auriferous quartz floats is not known. Given the vestiges of the sheared mafics on the quartz floats it could be local or it could come from anywhere from there to the contact area with the monzonite to the NE.

A sample of altered syenite (similar to the Au float) from the contact area gave a value of 1gpt Au.( Sample 99-BDM-01 ). In the same area, along the claim line north of Bond Lake gold values of 550ppb, 290ppb and 100ppb were obtained (samples 287900, 287903 and 287898 ).

A 15 cm quartz vein with hematite 175 m NE of Budall Lake yielded 3.02gpt.(sample 287876).

Many Iron Formations were stripped and some trenched. Various values in Copper and Zinc were obtained. An IF on the NE shore of Budall Lake gave a zinc value of 1.907o and a copper value of 2810 ppb (sample 747477 ). A sample in mafic volcanics west of that, along the shoreline, gave zinc values of 988ppb (sample 747478 ).

A banded iron formation on the west shore of Moosehorn Lake (sample 287877 ) gave 5.7807o Zn, 12.4 gpt Ag, 111gptCd, 528gptCo, 950gptCu and 248 gpt Pb. Au values were low but anomalous at 80ppb.

Sample 287879 from the Dogleg area NE of Moosehorn Lake had 708ppm Zn.

Jeff's IF showing in a trench on the north shore of Smoke Lake approx. 100m north of Mark Smyk's showing gave values of 1.4ppm Ag, 484ppm Cu and 6450ppm Zn (chip sample 287859) and 3.8ppm Ag, 2020ppm Cu and 7160ppm Zn (sample 287860). Gold values were low at SOppb and 45 ppb.

Another If approx. 600m to the SE on a high hill gave values of 590ppm Cu and 1515ppm Zn (sample 287867).

Jeff's other IF SW of the camp gave values of 501 ppm Cu and 6180ppm Zn (sample 287869 ).

Samples taken on the north shore of Smoke Lake at Mark Smyk's Au showing gave values of 5610ppm Zn (sample 287893) and 1230ppm Zn ( sample 287894 ). Mark's Smyk's original quartz vein was not tested. Other veins in a stockwork were tested. No more gold values were encountered but numerous other veins exposed and under water were not tested as well.

The BIF trench NE of the Au trench at Smoke Lake gave results of 6760ppm Zn (sample 287851 ) and 4100ppm Zn ( sample 287852 ). Seams of magnetite and thin seams of dark brownish sphalerite were evident in the samples.

An IF on the south side of the mouth of the creek on the east side of Smoke Lake (south of Au trench ) gave values of 300ppb Au, 3.2 ppm Ag, 5260ppm Cu, and 7170 ppm Zn (sample 747499). This showing also had a high sulphur content at 3.6 "/o.

Results indicate that there is :1-Highly anomalous gold values in the Smoke Lake l Bond Lake area.

2-Evidence points towards the source of the sheared syenitic gold floats as originating from the contact area north, and north-east of the marsh area and north of Bond Lake.

3-Quartz veins are numerous throughout the area.

4-Quartz veins appear to be the source of the higher grade gold. This is evident in both the sheared syenite float and the quartz floats from the Au trench.

5-Abundant alteration in the form of calcite, ankerite, pyrite, silification, magnetite and shearing. This is common in the area east and north east of Smoke Lake.

6-The source of the high gold values is not known but is postulated to come from the contact area with the quartz monzonite NW, North and NE of Bond Lake.

Soil Sampling

No significant trends were noticed with the soil sampling. However, onestation in the NE side, L6E, 0+50N gave a value of 195ppb.Soil sampling is very difficult in this area due to a very thin "B" horizon.Overburden is invariably till and boulders making soil sampling difficult andslow. Humus sampling would be more efficient and of more value in thisarea. It was decided to go with soils because Thompson's earlier work to the eastwas with soils and comparisons could not be made to his work if anothermode was used.

Recommendations

1- The area around Budall Lake and Moosehorn Lake to the Dogleg area needs to receive more attention. The gold values and the values from the BIF warrant more in depth work.

2- The Au trench at Smoke Lake needs to be mechanically stripped and trenched to determine the source of the Au quartz floats. If it is not a local bedrock then that area can be eliminated as a possible source and more attention paid to an up ice source.

3- The large quartz carb vein in the creek bed on the east side of Smoke Lake needs to be mechanically trenched to determine widths and to determine if it is related to the Au floats in the trench 130 m to the west.

4- The area along the contact of the monzonite and mafic volcanics north of Bond lake needs to be further explored and mapped. Due to heavy overburden a trench right across the entire contact area may shed some light on the origin of the highly auriferous syenite float from the marsh.

5- The monzonite intrusion should be sampled systematically to determine background levels of Au. This may shed some light on the source of the syenite float and indicate further exploration targets. W. J. Wolfe (1976 ), indicated that sampling on the Dome granodiorite stock and the Larder Lake syenite indicated higher levels of Au near Au deposits. Patterns of Au levels pointed to the deposits along or near the contact.
