SUMMARY

The Eclipse gold property, consisting of 16 claims totalling 64 units

and 1 2 two-post claims, is located on the south side of Amai Inlet. The

Main Eclipse showing is situated approximately 2.5 km south of the east

end of Amai Inlet at approximately 500 metres (1650 feet) elevation.

The Eclipse gold property lies within polyphase granodiorite of the

Jurassic Vancouver Island Intrusions. Locally, contacts between phases

may be distinct but are generally diffuse with younger siliceous and K-spar-

rich phases as irregular impregnations in older. Some epidote, chlorite,

quartz and K-spar segregations accompanied by a bleached appearance of older

phases are associated with internal plutonic contacts. Basic and lesser

aplite dykes ranging from a few centimetres to about 1 metre width, generally

trending northerly or northwesterly, cut the granodiorite. The general trend

of these dykes is followed by a number of generations of pre and post mineral

fracturing. Hydrothermal silicification, chloritization, epidotization,

biotitization with sulphide, native gold and bismuth telluride mineralization

accompanied one or more of these episodes of fracturing.

The November-December 1985 field program consisted of trenching by

blasting and hand mucking four trenches totalling 25 metres length along

the south extension of the Eclipse Main showing. Thirty one samples were

taken for Au, Ag analyses or assay from the trenches. The Amai Creek

showing was located but found to be sloughed and covered making it in-

accessible for sampling. Two new attempts were made to locate the DL#8

showing but logging slash makes this site inaccessible for sampling. In

addition prospecting was done in the vicinity of the main showing and the

general claims area. Thirty five samples were collected for rock geochemistry

and 12 panned concentrates of stream sediments were collected and sent for

Au analyses.

Summary (Continued) Page ii

The narrow high grade zone of mineralization (up to +7 and +30 oz

Au/ton and -2.0 oz ~g/ton) in the upper and lower cuts of the Main Eclipse

zone does not appear to extend for more than a few metres to the north or

south. The strongly mineralized zone is cut off by trenching and sampling

to the south and north. Although plunge in the third dimension of depth

has not been tested it is probable that there are insufficient reserves to

support anything other than a selective very small scale hand-mining type of

operation. A second narrow zone, rediscovered by Laird, 65 metres to the

east of the Main Eclipse zone, is similar in nature to but not proven as

rich as the Main Eclipse zone.

Anomalous gold values in outcrop, significant gold values in float and

panned concentrates from streams in a number of places in the claims area

preclude a statement that no significant gold bearing zones exist. However,

the results of this present trenching, sampling and prospecting program

indicate low potential for discovery of an orebody minable other than on a

very small scale.

A large scale exploration program is not recommended for the Eclipse

Gold Property. However, while theproperty is held under option continued

meticulous prospecting and heavy media stream sediment sampling should be

conducted in conjunction with programs on other properties in the Amai Inlet

area. Particular attention should be paid to areas of anomalous rock and

heavy media stream sediment samples. Re-excavation of the Amai Creek zone

and an attempt to gain access to the DL #8 showing should also be undertaken

for mapping and sampling at that time. The estimated cost of this program

would be $6,500.00.

K.E. Northcote and Associates Ltd. was contracted by Cortex Explorations

Inc. to assess the potential of the Eclipse Gold Prospect by trenching

and sampling the south extension of the main zone. Prospecting and

sampling further along north and south extensions and over the general

claims area was also done in conjuction with collecting heavy media

stream sediment samples by panning. This work was done in the period

November 18 to December 2, 1985 under direction of K.E. Northcote Ph.D.,

P.Eng with Alison Starr in charge of trenching by Copco drilling and

blasting, J.W. Laird prospecting and B.K. Northcote assistant. General

information is taken from a report dated ~ctober, 1985 by J . W . Laird.

LOCATION

The Eclipse gold property is located on the south side of Amai Inlet

straddling but mainly to the south of Adam Creek with elevations ranging

from sea level to approximately 800 metres (2600 feet). The Main Eclipse

showing is situated approximately 2.5 km south of the east end of Amai

Inlet at approximately 500 metres (1650 feet) elevation on the 3rd

tributary entering Adam Creek from the southwest. See Figure 2.

ACCESS

The Eclipse property claims are accessible by water from Fair Harbour.

GEOLOGY OF THE ECLIPSE PROSPECT

The main Eclipse prospect lies within polyphase granodiorite of the

Vancouver Islandfntrusions at sufficient distance from intrusive-volcanic

contacts with the Bonanza Formation to be free of most contact effects. At

the main Eclipse working the polyphase granodiorite is medium grained with

distinct phases represented by variation from mesocratic to leucocratic

accompanied by increasing K-spar-silica content. Locally, contacts between

phases may be distioct but are generally diffuse with younger siliceous and

K-spar-rich phases as irregular impregnations in older. Some epidote

chlorite quartz and K-spar segregations accompanied by a bleached appearance

of older phases are associated with internal plutonic contacts. Basic

and lesser aplite-filled fractures form dykes ranging from a few dentimetres to

1 metre in width in northerly to northeasterly and northwesterly trending

fractures in granodiorite. Smaller locally branching "offshoots" of basic

dykes have attitudes ranging from flat lying to near-vertical.

The northerly and n~rtheasterly'trendin~ dykes are commonly followed by a

number of generations of pre-and post mineral fracturing. Similarly,

as represented by the main Eclipse zone, northerly to northeasterly trending

multigeneration fractures unaccompanied by or with minimal dyke-rock are

also noted. These latter systems may branch and diverge along strike; Most

fracture-zones consist of a narrow strong shatter, shear, gouge zone a fraction

of a centimetre to several centimetres wide flanked on both sides by zones

of less intense fracturinglshattering extending a few centimetres to several

metres into the wall rock.

Hydrothermal silicification, chloritization, epidotization biotitization

with sulphide, native gold and bismuth telluride mineralization accompanied

one or more of these epidodes of fracturing. Hydrothermal activity has

impressed a bleached appearance or propylitic alteration on wallrocks

adjacent to fractures. This hydrothermal alteration is difficult to

distinguish from magmatic alteration at contacts among successive plutonic

phases.

Page 11: GEOLOGICAL MAPPING, TRENCHING, SAMPLING THE ECLIPSE …

The main Eclipse structure, where best mineralized, exhibits a central zone

of intense shearing ranging from a fractionof a cm to several crns wide flanked

on each side by a wider zone of less intense fracturinglshattering ranging

from several crns to a few metres in width. To date, the best grade Au,

in excess of 30 oz Au/ton, has been found in the narrow main, intensely

fractured zone. Here native gold and tetradymite(?) occur in chloritic

slip surfaces and with pyritic, biotite-rich, chloritic and silica-rich

material. Specimens containing native gold have been found in subsidiary

chloritic and epidote filled fractures and slip surfaces adjacent to the

main fracture zone.

HISTORY OF ECLIPSE GOLD PROSPECT (Summarized from a Report by J.W. Laird, October, 1985)

Mr. A. Thomson began prospecting in the Amai Inlet area in 1938 and dis-

covered the main Eclipse showing in 1940. A test shipment of 98 Kg shipped

to the goverximent sampling plant at Prince Rupert in 1941 resulted in assay

values of 4.145 oz Au/ton and 0.20 oz Ag/ton, 0.60% Pb and 0.03% Te. During

the World War 11, while Mr. Thomson was serving with the armed forces overseas,

some prospecting and sampling was done by others on and around the main

Eclipse prospect but the claims were allowed to lapse. In 1946 six recorded

claims owned by J.J. Pugh covered the Eclipse prospect. The main showing,

exposed by stripping, was reported to consist of a very narrow fissure,

0.60 cm (4 inch) wide in granodiorite, showing some sulphides on the walls and weak shearing for 10 to 12 cm (3 or 4 inches) on either side. A sample

across 15 crns (6 inches) of sheared material showing some sulphides assayed

0.04 oz Au/ton and a trace of Ag. In the period from about 1944 until 1979

work was concentrated on the nearby Fil Mil property. In 1979 and 1980,

MEMPR reports prospecting, stripping and trail cutting and clearing on the

Eclipse showing now covered by D.L. 1 to 12 and ECLIPSE 1 to 4 claims owned

by Adam Thomson of Burnaby.

MAPPING AND SAMPLING PROGRAM

(August to September, 1985)"

James W. Laird made a-preliminary survey of the Eclipse property August 10

to 13. Figure 4. In the period August 24 to 28, K.E. Northcote, accompanied

by J.W. Laird mapped and sampled the main Eclipse zone. Scale 1 to 100,

Figure 3.. Subsequently, on September 12, J.W. Laird revisited the main

showing to carry out check sampling and to attempt to trace the best mineral-

ized zone to the south. Figure 4. A total of 25 samples were taken for Au and Ag assay. The locations of these samples are shown on Figures 3 and

, ' 4 and are listed in Table 11. Assay sheets form Appendix'A.

PROGRAM IN PERIOD NOVEMBER 18 TO DECEMBER 2, 1985

The main objective of the November/December field program was to determine

the extent of the south and north extensions of narrow high grade (+7 and

+30 oz Au/ton) zones of mineralization in the upper and lower cuts of the

Main,Eclipse Zone. Secondary objectives were to determine the potential of

other known zones and to prospect for additional zones in and adjacent to

the D.L., NOBS and recently staked 64 unit ECLIPSE claims area.

The program on the Main Eclipse showing consisted of trenching by blasting and

hand mucking four trenches along the south extension. Alison Starr blasted

four trenches totalling 25 metres length which allowed effective rock geo-

chemical sampling of the south extension. Thirty-one samples were taken from

Page 13: GEOLOGICAL MAPPING, TRENCHING, SAMPLING THE ECLIPSE …

trenches and analyssd for Au and Ag and a few new samples were a l s ~ taken

from the lower cut-of the-Main Zone. This makes a grand total of 59 samples

taken from the main Eclipse zone during the August/September and November/

December programs. See Figures 3 and 4.

The Amai Creek showing was located and exposures in the general vicinity

were examined and sampled. The working is sloughed and covered making it

inaccessible for sampling. Two new attempts were made to locate and sample

the D.L. #8 showing. These were unsuccessful because logging slash now

covers the site making it inaccessible for sampling. Alison Starr examined

exposures near the south shore of Amai Inlet and in detail along the road

up Adam Creek. The Adam Creek road was briefly examined previously by

Laird, and subsequently by Northcote and Laird. Approximately three days

were spent by Laird, Starr and Northcote. propecting along the south extension

of the main Eclipse zone of the general D.L. 1,2,3, 4 claims area. A total

of 35 samples from the general claims area have been submitted for rock geo-

chemistry Au, Ag analyses. The results of these analyses are listed on

Table 11, shown on figures 3,4,5 and 6 with assay sheets forming Appendix B

Twelve heavy media panned concentrates were taken for Au geochemical analyses.

The locations of these samples are shown on Figure 6 and the results of analyses

tabulated on Table 11.

Panned concentrates from samples AS-85-11-29-1s and 2s are strongly anomalous

in gold with samples AS-85-11-29-3s and 4s producing lower gold values.

These samples are from Dismal Gulch below the D-8 showing as shown on Figure 6.

Similarly, panned concentrate from sample AS-85-11-29-6s taken from a shear

zone in a road cut west of Dismal Gulch also contains strongly anomalous

gold values. Two magnetite-rich panned concentrates, 85 PS D-1 and D-2, which

gave extremely high gold values were collected along the road following the

south side of Adam Creek approximately 750 m from the beach cabin.

CONCLUSIONS

Conclusions resulting from the program are as follows:

11 The narrow high grade zone of mineralization (up to +7 and +30 oz Au/ton

and -2.0 oz Ag/ton) in the upper and lower cuts of the main Eclipse zone

does not appear to extend for more than a few metres to the north or

south. The strongly mineralized zone is cut off by trenching and

sampling to the south and by sampling to the north in the main zone

Page 19: GEOLOGICAL MAPPING, TRENCHING, SAMPLING THE ECLIPSE …

and north extension. See Figures 3 , 4 and 5. Although plunge in

the third dimension of depth has not been tested it is probable that

there are insufficient reserves to support anything other than a

selective very small scale hand-mining type of operation.

21 A second narrow zone, rediscovered by Laird, is located about 65 metres

to the east of the main Eclipse zone. Figure 5. Narrow shear zones

flanking a basic dyke at this location contain gold mineralization.

Sampling suggests very narrow zones of mineralization (best value

obtained is 508 p.p.b., 0.015 oz Aulton) at this location similar to,

but not proven as rich as, the main Eclipse zone.

31 Rock samples from the general claims area indicates several gold

anomalous zones from samples from outcrop or float. No high Au

values were obtained comparable to the Main Eclipse Zone. Weakly

anomalous gold values from a chloritic shear zone on the north side

of Adam Creek near the shore of Amai Inlet and significant gold values

in float in the vicinity of the D-8 zone are worthy of further invest-

ication .

41 Free gold can be panned from a number of streams and dry water courses

in the claims area. Of particular interest are magnetite-rich

sediments from the roadside on the south side of Adam Creek about

314 km from the beach. Similarly, panned concentrates from Dismal

Gulch in the vicinity of the D-8 showing and another associated with

a shear zone about 350 metres to the west give strongly anomalous gold

values. These areas are also worthy of follow-up.

51 Anomalous gold values in outcrop, significant gold values in float

and panned concentrates from streams in a number of places in the

claims area preclude a statement that no significant gold bearing zones

exist. However, the results of this present trenching, sampling and

Page 20: GEOLOGICAL MAPPING, TRENCHING, SAMPLING THE ECLIPSE …

prospecting program indicate low potential for discovery of an orebody

minable other than on a very small scale.

61 Because of rugged terrain and abundant vegetation cover and logging

slash, exploration and location of additional mineralized zones will

require methodical exploration by basic prospecting, rock sampling

and heavy media stream sediment sampling.

. RECOMMENDATIONS

A large scale exploration program is not recommended for the Eclipse Gold

Property. However, while the property is held under option continued.

meticulous prospecting and heavy media stream sediment sampling should be

conducted in conjunction with programs on other properties in the Amai

Inlet area. Particular attention should be paid to areas of anomalous

rock and heavy media stream sediment samples. Re-excavation of.the Amai

Creek zone and an attempt to gain access to the DL#8 showing should also

be undertaken for mapping and sampling at that time.
