Thank you for your interest in the Georgia Museum of Art as a venue for your event. The museum is among the top rental facilities in the area. We hope that you will find the enclosed information useful in planning your event.

The Georgia Museum of Art, located on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, is both an academic museum and the official art museum of the state of Georgia.

On March 3, 2009, we broke ground on the Phase II expansion and renovation. The addition to the existing facility will consist of new galleries to display the permanent collection as well as an outdoor sculpture garden, expanded lobby and much-needed storage space.

Presently, most visitors to GMOA are unaware of the richness of the museum’s collection due to its current lack of space to display those works of art. The expanded gallery space will allow for the continual viewing of the museum’s permanent collection.

The facility reopened in January 2011 after a $20 million expansion and renovation project making the Georgia Museum of Art one of the premier event venues in Athens, Ga.

The Georgia Museum of Art shares the mission of the University of Georgia to support and to promote teaching, research and service. Specifically, as a repository and educational instrument of the visual arts, the museum exists to collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret significant works of art. Your rental supports this mission and allows us to provide opportunities for all ages and levels of experience to connect with art.
