TRAVEL to Peru LEARN about ANOTHER CULTURE University 4000 Dec 12-22, 2018 University 4000 is a 3-credit hour class that combines the study of the natural history and culture of a region with an in- country service learning experience. This year students will learn about South America and spend time in Peru helping build affordable housing in the village of La Florida surrounded by the beautiful foothills of the Andes Mountains. The trip will include a three-day excursion to see the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu and the mountain city of Cusco. Students that wish to learn more about the program or would like to be considered for this unique opportunity should contact Drs. Tzvetelin Iordanov (Office: Science 108) or Tom Weiland (Office: Roney 212). Application forms will be located on their office doors. The application should be filled out and returned no later than October 1 st . Interviews will be conducted and selection for the course will be announced before the end of registration for Fall II (October 8 th ). The class is currently limited to 10 students. In addition to the cost of the 3-credit hour course (which should be covered if you are already registered as a full-time student), students will be expected to pay $1700 which will cover a portion of the total trip expenses. GSW Foundation and the International Studies Scholarships will cover the additional costs for flight, housing, insurance, attractions tickets, entry visas, and breakfast. Students will need to apply and qualify for this University funding. Some meals and personal expenses are the participants’ responsibility. The class will meet once a week from Oct 8 th and Dec. 3 rd for 1 hour each time. Participants will depart for Peru on Dec 12 th and arrive back on Dec 22 nd . NOTE: A non-refundable deposit of $200 will be required after

University 4000 is a 3-credit hour class that combines the study of the natural history and culture of a region with an in-country service learning experience.
