Geosciences and innovation: the BRGM Carnot Institute as a preferred partner for businesses

BRGM: the French Geological Survey The BRGM Carnot Institute implements research partnerships with industrial sectors and businesses of every size. The aim is to deliver innovative management solutions for a range of topic areas, including soils and subsoils, raw materials, water resources and prevention of natural and environmental risks.

The economic sectors concerned include construction, energy, water, mining industries, environment and ecotechnologies.

BRGM areas of competence for subsoils

Addressing challenges to supplies of subsoil resources: minerals, water, geothermal energy.

Developing new (eco)technologies and tools for subsoil uses and their management: materials and energy storage, development and security of utility and communication networks.

Proposing efficient tools for operational assessments and monitoring of the environment: risk prevention and environmental precaution, integrated data products.

Research partnerships with businesses: simplicity and flexibility

A company looking to engage in a research partnership, whether in collaboration or under contract, contacts the BRGM Scientific and Technical Centre in Orléans or one of its regional divisions.

A contract or agreement then sets out the rules governing costs, confidentiality and industrial property. Companies in France may be eligible for tax relief.

Once the contract is signed, the company has access to all the human resources and materials required for the project (databases, ICTs, laboratories, pilot facility, etc.) without needing to recruit staff or make large investments.
