    Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter

Dear Dr. Winter, I have severe bone lossn my lower jaw. I have 2 roots left in the front

of my mouth. Is it possible to have bone

grafting done in order to get dentures put in?Dear Sheri, you have some good questionsand the ability to add bone when needed ismportant to place implants or mini-implants

and protect vital nerve structures. That beingsaid, I can not tell you if you require graftingprior to your dentures without seeing you andevaluating your existing teeth, roots and bone.Sometimes where you have the root tips, mplants can be placed to stabilize your

dentures and keep them from popping up andrequiring a lot of denture adhesive to hold themn place during talking and chewing.

So you may not need any grafting, you maywant to learn about stabilizing your denturesand creating an Upgrade path to enjoy betterdenture stability and chewing. We can discusshis at your comprehensive examination visit.

Dear Dr. Winter, I have a slight underbite, otherwise, my teeth are actually quite straight.

I had braces on my top teeth at a young age (Ibelieve 11/12), and as I grew up and matured Ideveloped an under bite. This seems to haveresulted in some unnatural wear and chippingon a couple of my top teeth. Do you have anynon-surgery solutions available?

Dear Ted, there are many options forfixing underbites that are non-surgical but I cannot comment on your options until I havecompleted an examination and x-ray visit.Sometimes orthodontics can correct yourproblem other times crowns can be used tochange your bite. So surgery is always the lastoption considered.

We invite our readers to call our office at414-464-9021 to schedule a complimentaryconsultation or new patient examination

appointment and let them know you contactedme via the internet for a special consideration.

When community members learned of atwo-and-a-half-year-old Hartford boy inneed, they stepped forward and now anongoing fundraising campaign is underwayfor Bradan Hermes.

The Miracle Child of Roy and Monica

Hermes, Bradan was born in July2010about five years after the doctors toldthe couple they would not be able to havekids naturallyand since the beginning ofthis year, he has been battling rare andaggressive tumors that have left the familywith few options.

The last two years with Bradan havebeen the best two years of our lives, theboys parents state on YouCaring.com,where they have set up an online fundraiser. He is such a beautiful, sweet little boy andwe couldnt have asked for more in a child.

The ordeal began on New Years Daywhen the Hermeses noticed their son had aslight limp, and the next morning when theytook him out of his crib, he could not walk.

Within a day, our lives were changedforever, is how they describe the experi-ence.

Soon after, Bradan was diagnosed witha malignant extra renal rhabdoid tumor, which affects just 5-15 children in NorthAmerica each year. Considered hard totreat, the tumor has left the family looking

into alternative options following unsuccess-ful surgeries. Despite an operation on Jan.11 that removed the tumor from Bradansspinal canal and abdomen, a Feb. 22 MRIshowed that not only had the tumor returnedand doubled in size, but there were now twotumors. The toddler had a second surgery

MADISON Winning a state championship in basket-all last year was the ultimate goal for Germantown. Doingagain was twice as nice. The Warhawks won back-to-

ack Division 1 championships with their 57-28 win overukwonago March 9 at the Kohl Center.

Two other unexpected things went their way in additionwinning two titles in a row: Theyre undefeated for the

cond straight year, pushing their winning streak to 56

ames, and senior Luke Fischer was named Mr. Basketballthe state of Wisconsin.Germantown (28-0) held Mukwonago (23-5) scoreless

e last 5:23 of the game. They got by with great defensivefort and a lack of offensive firepower and still held thedians at bay throughout the game. They won an uglyame, something the team isnt used to.

"We like to play," Germantown Coach Steve Showalterid. "We like to run up and down the court. The game is

eautiful. We love this game. To not be able to play ourame and still figure out a way to come through, its a trib-e to the type of kids that we have."

In addition to the low scoring in the first half and poorooting percentage (6-for-22), the Warhawks had to dealth foul trouble from their frontcourt, so Showalter wentth a smaller lineup.

"We had guys in foul trouble, Jon (Averkamp) and EvanWesenberg) who are our main defensive stoppers,"howalter said. "They were both struggling with fouls. We

ok a gamble that our small guys (would go) against theiral big guys and might be able to bother them a little bit.thought that Dearionte (Hudson) really turned the gameound with his defense and Brian (Bearden) gives us a lothelp on both ends."That strategy helped in the second quarter when

ermantown played a 2-3 zone to protect Fischer,Wesenberg and Averkamp, who had a combined seven of

e nine first half team fouls.Fischer (four points) and Wesenberg (five points) scored

ore than half of Germantowns first quarter points to lead5-7. That included 13 straight after Mukwonago took a 2-lead. Fischers layup early in the second quarter gave

Germantown a double digit lead at 17-7. The Indians gotno closer than seven points in the quar ter to trail at the half,25-18.

"Being the only one coming back and having experi-enced this type of game, it was kind of a necessity for me toset the pace," Fischer, who had 11 first half points said."(Mukwonago) pushed around. They were playing hard inthe post, so it was tougher to get the ball in there. It wasntlike (state semifinal game) where I could just like floataround and just have the ball lobbed up to me. I had towork for it."

Lamonte Bearden and Jake Showalter struggled fromthe field, shooting a combined 1-for-7. Bearden didnt scorein the half. That wasnt the case in Germantowns semifinalgame.

"We wanted Lamonte to have a really good game fromthe field, and he was 1-for-11 (in the game)," Showaltersaid. "We wanted Jake to light it up from outside. He was1-for-5. I dont know what happened. Were used to scor-ing 80 points a game. Our guys were sitting on the benchand not making shots. I cant even explain what hap-pened."

There wasnt much scoring in the third quarter forMukwonago as they struggled from the field. Their lastfield goal came at the 4:47 mark in the quarter.Germantown ended the quarter with a 7-0 run to lead 36-22. The Indians scored just six more points in regulation.

"(Germantown) do so many different things so well,"Mukwonago Coach Jim Haasser said. "You try to take thisaway. They will burn you with that, so you got to kind of

pick your poison. I thought the game was going real wellfor us. Had we sank some shots (9-for-43), what that wouldhave done for the rest of the game might have been a littleintriguing. "

With less than three minutes left in the game, most of thefans at the Kohl Center began to leave when they knew thegame was already decided. Senior guard Kendall Millerhit two three-pointers in a row, receiving jubilation on thesideline and going out as a winner.

Some of the Germantown students removed their gold T-shirts to reveal their blue tank top shirts that said on theback, "State Champs, 2012 & 2013, Back-to-Back," whichthey revealed while the game was still in progress, not

knowing what the final outcome would be. scorers with 17 points and was the only oneures. Mukwonagos Dominic Cizauskas led nine.

Germantown advanced to the WIAAvision I championship final following an

0-60 win over Oshkosh North in the statemifinal March 8.

It took some time for Germantown (27-0)get into their rhythm after they rebounded

om a slow start and shook off some rust.e Warhawks rode the backs of 7-foot sen-r Luke Fischer, who had 32 points, and jun-r Jake Showalter, who tied a Division 1cord for 3-pointers made in the game withven. He shares that record with Trevorratton of Wisconsin Rapids, who made 7-of-in the 2005 state tournament.Jake Showal ter exposed the zone

efense that the Spartans played in whichey took a gamble and lost. His first tworee-point baskets gave Germantown a 6-2ad with 6 minutes 21 seconds in an open-g quarter that featured seven lead changes.

"In practice," Jake Showalter said, "weorked on busting their 1-3-1 zone, and Iew that I could find holes in their defense.

knew that I could get my shot off a lot in theone, and I think it helped our team (getoing)."

Showalters stroke from downtown camethe right time to help break a shooting

ump he went through in recent weeks.scher used his height advantage to score 11st quarter points. North (23-4) kept pacete in the quarter, clinging to a 20-19 lead.nior Lamonte Beardens three at the buzzer

gave the Warhawks a 22-20 lead and they

never trailed again.Germantown used a 12-4 run in the sec-ond quarter to take a double digit lead at 34-24 at the 5:30 mark of the half. Another 15-5 run late in the second increased theiradvantage to 20 points (49-29), the biggestof the half. And to delight the Kohl Centercrowd again, Bearden made another buzzer-beater three for a 52-32 lead at intermission.Fischer had 19 first half points.

"We were able to get some touches intoLuke early," said Germantown Coach SteveShowalter. "Jake, obviously from the outside, really heated up in the first half. Once hestarted making some shots, they had to worryabout him out there. We were able to attacktheir basket, and I thought our game planworked out pretty well."

The domination continued forGermantown in the second half as they hada 28-point lead in the third quarter at 67-39with 3:29 left.

"We knew it was going to be a prettysteep hill to climb, playing a very goodGermantown team," North Coach FrankSchade said. "We felt that we might get by,by beating us from the outside. We just did-nt think that (Jake) Showalter would get thathot. He really shot the ball well. But theywere a better team. They were big andstrong, and the big kid inside just changes allyour preparation. Its pretty hard to preparefor a team like that when you got a kid thatbig."

Showalter, who was 7-for-16 in three-

point attempts, scored 21 points. TheWarhawks shot 46% (10-for-22) frombeyond the arc. Showalter had a feeling thatit would be his night as he also reflected onthe hot start from outside in last years statetournament (Nine threes made in twogames).

"I knew last year that I was close (to theDivision 1 record for 3-pointers made),"

    Showalter said. "People told

close (this game), but I wasnor if I tied it, so I didnt reallyreally click in my mind aboujust wanted to hit some threes
