Sanitation workers are at multiple risks in India n India, sanitation workers are considered to be the lowest stages Iof a casteist society. They are socially always dominated and disowned, but they are expected to clean your piles of dirt.

Government is also not kind to them; crores of rupees were spent on Swachh Bharat like flopped government programs but sanitation workers are deprived of basic facilities and grants.

The life of a sanitation worker is pathetic in our country. There are about five million people employed in sanitation work in our country with nearly two million of them working in 'high risk' conditions. They act as warriors to keep our cities clean and drains unclogged. Since the past month, we have heard the news from various parts of the country

such as Mumbai, Vadodara, Delhi stating loss of human life due to unavailability of the safety measures such as face masks, hand gloves, etc.

In the absence of this safety gear, they inhale toxic gases and die. They have to do it for their daily wages. This exposure leads to the spread of various skin diseases which passes onto their family members as well. As every single human life is precious to the country, these sanitation workers should be provided with necessary safety measures. In most places, sanitation workers are seen working without any safety measures.

Sanitation workers are at multiple risks in India They get less remuneration than many others who are educated and employed. The reason being the demand and supply. India is a nation where most of the people are poor, uneducated and unemployed. So, the supply of manual labour exceeds much more than its demand. Labourers are available on low wages. If education and other employment opportunities increase, such discrepancies may be corrected. Moreover, we lack the infrastructure to improvise the efficiency of these workers. Average thousands of deaths per year transpire over a cross-section of sanitation workers in India.

Due to lack of education and poverty, 90-95% of the government sanitation workers as well as self-employed/private workers had no idea about laws like The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 (the 2013 Act) which was meant to protect them. They aren't aware of any schemes or employment benefits like maternity leaves under government employment and even if they are, most are scared to avail them in fear of losing their jobs.

The urban local bodies have made no effort in enlightening these workers on their rights and privileges and seem to play an institutionally exploitative role instead of empowering them. Basic rights like medical cover or receiving a payslip with their salaries are missing even under permanent employment under MCDs as sanitation workers.

Government has no awareness programmes for them to understand their basic rights. Rather they are kept in the dark and in fear of losing their jobs. The provision of protective gear is almost a fable and no effort to create a safe working space for these people has been made by local bodies. Even if provided with safety gears, sanitation workers don't wear them because they weigh too much and the gumboots gnaw at their toes. They lose grip and control when diving into a septic tank.

Developed countries provide bunny suits to their sanitation workers, our sanitation workers go into the septic tank and

manholes wearing nothing but briefs. Most of the time they depend on alcohol consumption to bear with the foul smell around. According to the National Human Rights Commission in October 2002, most permanent workers in Delhi wear 'safety belts. While this is seen as protection, actually this is a threat to life. These safety belts connect workers in manholes with men standing outside through thick ropes – offering no protection against poisonous gases/ liquids/ sharp or infected objects.

These ropes only help to pull them out when they die in the process or lose consciousness inside the hole. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) reported that 80% of the manual scavengers die before the age of 60 due to vocation induced health problems. In Mumbai alone, a (conservative) average of 20 sewer workers dies per month due to suffocation, exposure to toxic gases and other accidents. While the government is concentrating so sternly on toilet provision with Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, the focus on behavioural change towards sanitation and a moral change towards sanitation workers is what is lagging behind.

Presently, in India, a very vague outline of laws on work-related safety and health rules and regulations are available. Policy influencing institutions like Central Public Health and Environment Organisations and MoEF need to bring out manuals on operation, management and handling of sewerage, its treatment and municipal wastewater. There is a crucial need for periodic health surveillance of sanitary workers to detect early signs of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, TB, etc. among them and inform them regarding balanced diets and the risk of drug and alcohol abuse – since these are habits, they fester to be able to work in the inhumane conditions of septic tanks and sewers.

There is an urgent need of identifying the figure of sanitation workers across India as no public document states the exact figure yet and no attempt has been made to get realistic statistics on the same. Until we know the space of sanitation workers, it is impossible for policies to be effective without knowing the type and numbers of its direct beneficiaries.

the Antilia explosive case and the Mansukh Hiran murder case.

Pradeep Sharma, a Shiv Sena leader and former encounter specialist, was questioned twice earlier by NIA officials in connection with the case. He is known to be close to former Mumbai Police cop Sachin Vaze, who has been arrested by the central agency as the main conspirator in both cases.

An NIA team along with armed CRPF personnel raided Sharma's house at around 6 am, the official said. A search is being carried out, he said. According to sources, Sharma is also being questioned by the NIA team in connection with the case.

According to media reports, the roads leading to the building, where Sharma lives, have been cordoned off by the central security forces and public movement in the area has been restricted. After getting the information about the raid, the Mumbai police also deployed its personnel at the spot.

Pradeep Sharma joined Mumbai Police as sub-inspector in 1983 and has been involved in over 300 encounters related to the Mumbai underworld, out of which, 113 shootouts are in his name. The NIA carried out searches at the residence of former Mumbai Police cop Pradeep Sharma in the Antilia bomb scare case and the murder case of businessman Mansukh Hiran.

Cricket is a team game, where performance is the name of the game. Indian think tank is trying to make a match of the WTC final by picking a balanced and strong side to match with the Kiwi side. The players to miss out from the original 20-member squad that has toured England are: Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Agarwal, Washington Sundar. Axar was too good at home against England and both Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar earned name as bowling all rounders in the side in the famous win on the Australian soil. But suddenly the faith in these three workhorses is totally ignored to accommodate the senior cricketers in the side. When we try to balance batting then we let down bowling. But the team was consistently inconsistent in fielding and that is a major let down for a team

to his tainted personality in the last few years, he has not been able to get a clear majority despite holding four national elections in the last two years. No matter how patriotic Netanyahu may be, the public ultimately prefers one whose character is clean. That is the defeat of Netanyahu. Today, many ministers, MPs and MLAs in India are accused of corruption. Corruption or other criminal acts are committed by politicians around the world; but they are punished there. It is annoying that this does not happen in most cases in India. Will it ever be seen in India that even the highest office bearer has to give up his seat due to corruption? This is the question. This is what makes the Indian system introverted. There is no alternative to teaching morality and sadhana to the society to eradicate corruption. This is equally true.

number of single-day jabs on Monday, BMC data reveals that private hospitals administered 73k jabs to 20k at the govt designated centres which raises concerns about inequality. COVID is an humanitarian tragedy & Vaccine should be the birth right of all irrespective of money or religion. Vax drives in the city has been converted into an money minting business where 75 percent of jabs are earmarked for paid vaccination drive which is a pity.

This gross inequality needs to be checked & one way is to centralize vaccination drive so that no differentiation is made on any parameters when it comes to vaccinating the entire population. PM Modi should look into the matter urgently so that gross injustice against the poor can be checked!

yoga practice and you also develop a great sense of self-discipline and self-awareness. In short, it improves our well-being and gives us better mental clarity.

The practice of yoga is something that has the power to heal the entire body. It is the best medicine any doctor can give you.

Yoga Day which is celebrated on June 21, came into existence in the year, 2014 with the genuine effort made by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being.

Yoga is more than just burning your calories and toning your muscles. It is a mind-body workout where you have strengthening and stretching poses along with deep breathing techniques to relax your mind and body. There are more than a hundred different forms of yoga. Some are fast paced and intense. Others are gentle and relaxing. Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It embodies the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being. The word 'yoga' literally means 'union'. Through yoga, you can explore profoundly the very mechanics of life. It is beneficial if it is practiced on a daily basis in the mornings.

School teachers denied permission to travel in local trains

Mumbai teachers made an appeal to the state g o v e r n m e n t

regarding the permission to travel in Local trains for internal assessment of 10th standard. The state government of Maharashtra, has refused the permission, sought by the teachers, to allow them to travel by the Mumbai local train.

The state government, in a statement issued on Monday, June 14, 2021, made it mandatory for teachers to attend schools. Staff teaching children between class 1-9 had to attend in 50 per cent capacity to conduct online classes,

whereas staff teaching class 10 and junior college students had to attend the school for assessment, so as to release the results on time. This was brought in effect from June 15 across Maharashtra, except Vidarbha region.

Expressing their concerns, teachers in Mumbai also staged a protest demanding them to be allowed to travel in the trains and said that many of them come from areas like Vasai, Virar, Palghar, Kalyan, Panvel and others. Hence, travelling by local train is the only solution.

No clarity has been given regarding the commute and vaccination. Some members of the teachers' association called this a halfhearted decision and said that while the government wants the teachers to attend schools, they do not want to provide services that would also risk their lives. 30:30:40 formula, CBSE submits Class 12 scoring plan in SC, results by July 31

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday told

the Supreme Court that for Class 12, the marks will be based on unit test/mid-term/pre-board exam and 40 per cent weightage will be given.

Results are likely to be declared by July 31.

Attorney Genera l K.K. Venugopal, representing the CBSE, submitted that the marks of practical/internal assessment etc. of Class 12 will be on actual basis as uploaded by the school on the CBSE portal.

"The total marks awarded should be in consonance with the past performance of the school in Class 12 Board Examinations," said the CBSE in its response in the top court.

"The computation of theory marks for Class 12 will be based on performance in one or more

Unit Test(s)/Mid-Term/Pre-Board(s) theory examination. The result committee of the school may decide weightage to be given to each exam based on the credibility and reliability of the assessment. For example, if the committee may be of the considered view that only the Pre-Board exams may be taken into consideration, then a full weightage can be given to that component. Similarly, another school Result committee may decide to give equal weightage to Pre-Board exams and Mid-Term exams," said the CBSE affidavit in the top court.

The board submitted that the performance of the students in Class 11 and Class 10 exams will also be factored in while making the assessments.

The CBSE said while 30 per cent marks will be based on Class 11 final exam, 30 per cent marks based on best-of-three

Class 10 marks will also be included while making the assessment. A bench headed by Justice A.M. Khanwilkar is hearing the matter.

The CBSE said a result committee under the principal of the school will be formed in each school comprising of two senior-most PGT from the same school and two PGT from neighbouring schools.

Committee has been given liberty to prepare the result by following the policy.

Cash-rich TN labour welfare bodyto fund workers' vaccination

The welfare board has a cash surplus of Rs 3,000 crores which is collected

as one per cent cess levied from project sites across the state. It is to be noted that around 12.13 lakh workers are registered with the Labour welfare board of Tamil Nadu which is half of the total labour population of the state.

It may be noted that several studies have revealed that construction workers are one of the most vulnerable groups to be infected with Covid-19 virus and that the group comprises labourers drawn from Bihar,

Chattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

A senior officer with the labour department told a news agency that the department has already placed an order for 2 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines with the Tamil Nadu State Medical Service Corporation.

Labour department officials told the news agency that a group of 100 to 150 labourers will be vaccinated in one site and this would be carried out across the state.

According to the labour department sources, they had earlier conducted a vaccination drive with the Greater Chennai Corporation as the construction workers were considered vulnerable and were given priority vaccination. 6.1-magnitude quake in Indonesia triggers small tsunami, damages houses

Joe Biden, Vladimir Putin agree to steps on cybersecurity, arms control

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed

on Wednesday (local time) to begin cybersecurity and arms control talks at a summit that highlighted their discord on those issues, human rights and Ukraine.

In their first meeting since he took office in January, Biden asked Putin how he would feel if a ransomware attack hit Russia's oil network, a pointed question making reference to the May shutdown of a pipeline that caused disruptions and panic-buying along the US East

Coast.While Biden stressed that he

did not make threats during the three-hour meeting, he said he outlined US interests, including cybersecurity, and made clear to Putin that the United States would respond if Russia infringed on those concerns.

Both men used careful pleasantries to describe their talks in a lakeside Swiss villa, with Putin cal l ing them constructive and without hostility and Biden saying there was no substitute for face-to-face discussions.

They also agreed to send their

ambassadors back to each other's capitals. Russia recalled its envoy after Biden said in March that he thought Putin was a "killer". The United States recalled its ambassador soon after.

Putin said on Wednesday that he had been satisfied by Biden's

explanation of the remark. But there was no hiding their

differences on issues such as human rights, where Biden said the consequences for Russia would be "devastating" if jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny died, or cyberspace, where Washington has demanded Moscow crack down on ransomware attacks emanating from Russian soil.

"I looked at him and said: 'How would you feel if ransomware took on the pipelines from your oil fields?' He said: 'It would matter,'" Biden told reporters at an

unusual solo news conference, itself an illustration of the tensions between the two nations.

The query referred to a cyberattack that closed the Colonial Pipeline Co (COLPI.UL) system for several days in May, preventing millions of barrels of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from flowing to the East Coast from the Gulf Coast.

Biden also vowed to take action against any Russian cyberattacks: "I pointed out to him that we have significant cyber capability. And he knows it."

A video footage showed sea waters with the height of less than one

metre entering coastal areas in Maluku Tengah d is t r i c t , t r igger ing pan ic among residents.

S e v e r a l h o u s e s w e r e destroyed and residents fled homes to safer grounds, Sais Salong, secretary of the provincial disaster management agency, told Xinhua news a g e n c y o n W e d n e s d a y following the temblor.

However, there were no immediate reports of casualties after the earthquake, he said.

A risk assessment on the impacts of the small tsunami and the jolts of the quake has been undertaken by the

disaster agency officials, he added.

The quake hit at 11.43 a.m. on Wednesday, with the epicentre at 67 km southeast of Maluku Tengah district and the shallow at 10 km under the earth, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.

The intensity of the quake

was felt at MMI III (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Tehoru sub-district in the district, the district capital of Masohi, Bula sub-district in Seram Bagian Timur district, and Kairatu sub-district in Seram Bagian Barat district.

The tremors were also felt at MMI II in the provincial capital of Ambon, it said.

Firing arrows, indigenous people in Brazil protest

bill curtailing land rights

S e v e r a l h u n d r e d indigenous Brazil ians protested outside the

Congress building in Brasilia against a bill backed by the country's farm sector that would limit recognition of reservation lands.

Protesters wearing feathered headdresses and body paint later t r ied to invade a downtown building to demand the ouster of the head of the government's indigenous affairs agency Funai for not

defending their interests.Riot police fired pepper spray

to contain the crowd, and some arrows were shot at the glass windows of the building.

"This bill PL 490 is harmful not just to us, but to humanity," Sonia Guajajara, head of Brazil's largest indigenous umbrella organization APIB, told Reuters.

The legislation, first tabled in 2007, would fix 1988 as the c u t - o f f d a t e f o r t h e demarcation of reservation lands if they were not occupied at that time. The lower house is expected to vote on the bill in committee next week.

Brazil's Supreme Court must rule on a case that would set jurisprudence in the issue and is expected to uphold indigenous arguments that fixing the 1988 date violates constitutional guarantees to ancestral lands.

France to lift Covid-19 curfew on June 20; face masks no longer compulsory

France announced easing of several COVID-19 restrictions, with authorities saying it's no

longer always mandatory to wear masks outdoors and halting an 8-month nightly coronavirus curfew this weekend.

The announcement by French Prime Minister Jean Castex comes as France is registering about 3,900 new virus cases a day, down from 35,000 a day in the March-April peak.

Castex welcomed “very good news” and said the curfew will be lifted on Sunday, 10 days earlier than expected.

Wearing a mask will still

remain mandatory outdoors in crowded places like street markets and stadiums, he said. People are required to wear a mask indoors in public spaces, including at work — with an exception for restaurants and bars.

“We have not known such a low level of virus spreading since last August,” Castex said, adding that the situation was improving in all of France's regions.

“Those positive evolutions are due to the mobilization of the French and to the vaccination campaign,” he said.

Goans are going to celebrate 75th anniversary of Goa

Liberation Movement on 18th June 2021. Though, the Goa got independence on 18th December 1961 after 450-year-long colonial rule of Portuguese. When India became independent in 1947, Goa remained under Portuguese control.

The Goa's liberation was started by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia on 18th June 1946. Dr Juliao Menezes who was originally inhabitant of Goa also fought along with Dr. Lohia in this movement. They together started civil disobedience movement against Salazar's dictatorial regime in Goa. Thereafter too, Dr. Lohia and Dr Menezes led many movements against Portuguese. In the Goa liberation movement, the role of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia was remarkable

Dr. Juliao Menezes attended Berlin University in the 1920s and graduated in medicine. Dr. Menezes met Dr.Lohia at the same university. In India, Dr. Lohia went to Dr. Menezes,s house in Assolna, Goa on 10th June 1946. At Assolna, they discussed the situation prevailing in Goa during and decided to protest the ban on public meetings imposed by the Portuguese Government. This was the first civil disobedience movement against the then 435-year-old Portuguese rule. The movement was started with small revolts during the 19th century, which became powerful during the period of 1940 to 1961.

If we analyse the defeat of Portuguese in Goa, we find many causes were responsible for their failure. Portuguese commerce across western Portugal lost its empire due to the change in the world order due to world war second. Changed scenario made colonialism no longer acceptable across the world. The world war made clear that power has been shifted from Europe to America. Besides, the Portuguese administration in Goa was very corrupt. The salaries of the officers were

very low, and they did not feel any hesitation to accept bribes from anyone. The Portuguese officers were selfish. All the top generals of Portuguese were died, and lower rank officers were not capable to continue Portuguese rule up to long time.

In 1492, Goa became a part of Adil Shah's Bijapur Sultanate, which established Goa Velha Old Goa as its second capital. The former Secretariat building in Panaji is a former Adil Shahi palace. It functioned for the Portuguese as the official residence of their Viceroys. The Portuguese in the leadership of Afonso de Albuquerque, the second viceroy invaded Goa in 1510 for defeating the Bijapur Sultanate and succeeded in his attempt by the help of the Hindu Vijayanagar empire. After this victory, Portuguese established a permanent settlement in Velha Goa.

Goa was the base for Albuquerque's conquest of Malacca in 1511 and Hormuz in 1515. Even, Albuquerque started a Portuguese mint in Goa. Albuquerque wanted to make it a colony and a naval base. Goa was also made capital of the Portuguese Kingdom in Asia.

Portuguese control over the sea of South Asia enabled them to control the lucrative spice trade during the 16th century. At that time, agriculture was main source of income of two third population of Goa.

Spices were mainly cultivated in Goa. Apart from this, Mango, Cashew, Coconut, Banana, Pineapple, Jackfruit, Paddy, Ragi, Sugarcane, Groundnut, Brinjal gourd, Long beans etc were cultivated in Goa.

At the market of Goa, goods from all parts of the East countries were available. Separate streets were designated for the sale of different classes of goods. Bahrain's pearls, China's porcelain and silk, Portugal's velvet, and drugs etc were available in Goa's market. Fine peppers came from the nearby Malabar coast. Goa was then called Goa Dourada or Golden Goa. Especially the Portuguese took benefits by sending spices from Africa to Lisbon.

Portugal had a service-based mixed economy in which the government had privatized many state-controlled firms and liberalized areas of the economy. However, their economy was running by the help of revenue & trade benefits which were particularly coming from Goa. The main goal of Portuguese empire was trade, not colonisation or conquest. Portuguese ship was bringing into the European market gold, ivory, copper, and slaves at the beginning of the 16th century. By the help of trade & colonial empire, Portugal created the largest commercial and maritime empire which extended from South America to the Far East countries, and along the

coastlines of Africa and India.During the rule, the

Portuguese made no capital investment in Goa. They made no attempt to industrialise the Goa. They encouraged reckless exploitation of the mineral wealth of this small area. They granted as many as 375 mining leases for the extraction of iron and manganese ores. Portugal was the world's richest country when its colonial empire in Asia, Africa, and South America was continued, but they didn't use the revenue & profits rationally. Even, available wealth was not used to develop industrial & other infrastructure. As a result, Portugal gradually became one of western Europe's poorest countries in the 20th centuries.

After independence, Goans started to do more efforts for improving the economic condition of the state. Due to the efforts of the state government and Goans, economic activities are consistently increasing. As per available data, Goa's economy is now in good condition, but during Portuguese's rule it was not as good as today. Today too, the backbone of the economy is agriculture. This is still main source of livelihood of two-thirds of the population of Goa. The Northern Goa borders Maharashtra State while Southern area is bordered by Karnataka State. Goa has good treasure of biodiversity, spices and other agriculture produce. Besides, Goa has a strong presence in mining, tourism, and pharmaceuticals sectors. Mining of iron ore

and manganese, pharmaceuticals, iron, and steel industries are present in North Goa while mining and shipbuilding industries are present in South Goa.

According to the Economic Survey, the gross state domestic Product (GSDP) of Goa showed a 12.14 percent growth during 2017-18 when compared to the previous fiscal. Even, the state government during the budget 2019-20 estimated the state GDP at Rs. 84,888.9 crore. The GSPD estimates at current prices for the year 2020-21 (advanced) is estimated at Rs.92,260.53 crore. Goa's per capita income (advanced) at current prices is Rs.5.92 lakh which is highest in the country.

The growth rate of GSPD is expected to be at 8.6 percent for the year 2020-21. Goa's economic growth is driven by the splendid performance of industrial sectors such as mining, tourism, and pharmaceuticals. In the sector of power generation too, Goa is steadily becoming self-reliant. For example, as of November 2020, Goa had a total installed power generation capacity of 584.83 Megawatt (MW).

There is no doubt that the economic condition of Goa was not good at the time of Portuguese. The Portuguese exploited the natural and human resources of Goa for their own benefit. Though, today, with the help of mining, tourism, pharmaceutical industry, etc., the economic condition of Goa is constantly improving.

Sony Vaio SE14 reviewJapanese consumer PC maker Vaio was originally a brand of Sony known for

its sleek and powerful laptops akin to today's Apple Macbooks. Unfortunately, the Sony Vaio run did not last long and the Vaio brand was sold in 2014. Now, the Vaio brand is back in partnership with Hong Kong-based Nexstgo. The brand recently launched in India the Vaio SE 14, which is touted to be a premium laptop for everyday use. Is it? Let's find out:

Design and displayThe laptop looks modern

but lacks the zing and finesse of models made by Sony. That said, it seems like any other premium notebook but Vaio, which some of us are familiar with. Nevertheless, the laptop looks peppy in red copper (review unit) colour and embodies the trait of thin-and-light notebooks. The design is complemented by the Vaio logo engraved on the top side of the display lid. The laptop weighs just 1.39 kg and has sleek built for comfortable ergonomics and portable form factor.

The laptop sports a 14-inch fullHD IPS screen with an anti-

glare coating for ease of use even in a bright environment. As for the screen quality, it is bright and vivid. The screen is good for everyday use, be it for watching content on over-the-top platforms or working on Microsoft productivity suite.

Supporting the good display is the laptop's backlit keyboard, which comes handy if you prefer to work in dark environments. The keyboard is spill resistant, but the laptop is not so wary of keeping any liquid item nearby. As for the touchpad, it is of regular size and responds well. The laptop supports Windows Hello login, which lets users sign in by either scanning the fingerprint (sensor available in the power button) or facial recognition supported by built-in webcam.

The Vaio SE14 display lid lifts the body from the surface at a certain angle. It aids in typing experience and improving the thermal efficiency of the laptop by letting air flow freely.

As for the connectivty and ports, there are plenty of

connectivity options -- two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB type A 3.2 ports, an HDMI port, and a slot for a microSD card. Besides multiple ports for connectivity, the SE14 also comes with a chassis lock support slot for security and a 3.5mm audio jack.

PerformanceThe Vaio SE14 is powered by

an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor (review unit) with Iris Xe integrated graphics. It ships with 16GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD storage. The laptop comes preloaded with Windows 10 Home edition.

The laptop is good for everyday use, and though not a gaming laptop, it can handle some casual gaming titles too. The overall performance is good and there is no lag or slowdown, if you stick to everyday computing. Thanks to SSD storage, the laptop boots in no time and manages to open apps quickly.

The laptop is also good for work from home scenarios,

thanks to decent built-in webcam and twin digital array microphones. Besides, there are four speakers – two on the top side and two on the bottom side. The speakers' output is average but works fine for video conferencing and virtual briefing sessions. They are, however, not good for watching movies, listening to songs, or games.

Battery LifeVaio claims a battery life of

12 hours on a single charge but that does not seem to be the case in real life. The laptop, however, returns a

decent eight hours on-battery time when used for regular operations. On a positive side, the laptop ships with a fast charger that replenished battery charge by up to 70 per cent in about an hour.

VerdictThe Vaio SE14 is a good

laptop for everyday use powered by the latest 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor. It, however, seems expensive considering the base model with 8GB RAM is priced at Rs 69,990. For the same price, the competitors like Asus, HP, Acer and Dell offer a better deal – some with discrete graphic card options.

Scarlett Johansson: Black Widow has moved away from hyper-sexualisation

the kind of hyper-sexualisation of this character and, I mean, you look back at 'Iron Man 2' and while it was really fun and had a lot of great moments in it, the character is so sexualised, you know? Really talked about like she's a piece of something, like a possession or a thing or whatever — like a piece of a**, really. The 36-year-old actress gets her first solo superhero film this year, with “Black Widow" scheduled to release in theatres on July 9. The film was originally slated for release last year but had to be postponed owing to the pandemic.

Hollywood superstar Scarlett Johansson says she is happy that her Marvel Cinematic Universe avatar Natasha Romanoff, as well

as her superhero alter ego Black Widow, has moved away from the “hyper-sexualisation" which defined it when she first essayed the role in the 2010 blockbuster “Iron Man 2".

“Obviously, 10 years have passed and things have happened and I have a much different, more evolved understanding of myself. As a woman, I'm in a different place in my life, you know? And I felt more forgiving of myself, as a woman, and not — sometimes probably not enough. I'm more accepting of myself, I think," Johansson told collider.com, according to a report in femalefirst.co.uk.

“All of that is related to that move away from
